I finally got through that Fileshack wait. Don't have any time to play today though. :( I'll probably check it out tomorrow.

Disable your sound card and see if it works, happen to have an x-fi by chance?

Really digging it so far. The graphics are insane, of course. Even though I run it at 800x600 on my lowly 7600gt to keep it locked at 60ish fps.

I'd say its somewhere between UT99 and UT2004 in feel. The weapons are stronger, but its still quite fast, but the dodge-jump super jump is now gone. The weapons feel great, especially the new shock rifle. Same with the vehicles....most of them are returning, but they just feel really great to use.

If you liked any of the other UTs, you'll like this.

Game running fine for me.
running it at 1280x1024 on a 7900gtx 512mb, 3.0ghz pentium d, 2gb, xp
It does every minute or so pause for about 1 sec, not sure of the cause for that.

Otherwise looks and runs great.

Online play is nearly impossible right now.
Very few to no dedicated servers.
Just people using there home pc to run the game servers so everything lags for seconds at a time.

I'm suprised that epic has not put up dedicated servers.

Well technically, we're not supposed to be playing it yet. :p

I will say that the way the shock combo blows the target far away, then sucks it back into the vaccuum and gibs it once it hits the center is absolutely bad ass.

Best UT ever. The mechanics of it are perfect, it all comes down to the maps right now. Of the three available, they are all pretty damn good.

Agh. Didn't know this was out yet. Too many demos right now between COD4, Timeshift, UT3.. Plus I'm trying to get through HL2:Ep2.

There weren't really any shooters out all summer, and now a whole mess of them at once.

Good thing its the weekend.

The game runs at 60fps with all maximum settings and at 1440x900 mode. The weapons are very much like UT99 but the game speed is like a mix of UT2k3 and UT99. By UT99 weapons, I mean how extremely powerful they are and were. It isn't fast nor is it slow. The game is fast pace by the means of how fast you can cream anyone by practically any of the weapons, especially the sniper rifle.

I love the sniper rifle, very UT99-llike. It's very easy to get off headshots. I've also noticed how the flak cannon seems to be weaker than in UT2k3. New favorite has to be the sniper rifle or the stinger mini-gun. Absolutely great how they redid the minigun. I also just noticed how it impales the opponent when you use secondary fire mode. However, I am disappointed how many weapons are in the game, but I know it's just a beta demo.

I just finished installing it.

I had the time to play on ShangriLa with five bots.

The game is absolutely amazing. I have not much else to add. Also, I play it on everything set at high, 1280x960, 16xAF but no AA, and it plays super smooth even on my system (well my GPU is good but the CPU isn't, but it still performs great!).

Alright, So I got about an hour with the demo.

Graphics are absolutely amazing, I daresay even better than Gears of War, though the framerate is crap on my 7800gt and 2.8 ghz Opteron, but It'll probably run well at settings maxed out on 8800 cards along with a Core 2. The maps that are included are Shangri La and Heatray for DM, and Suspense for VCTF. Excellent level design though all three maps, seems Epic hasn't lost their touch with creating levels that look and play great. Suspense in particular has a enormous bridge to fight on, and Shangri La has an interesting far east theme on the whole map.

Gameplay is certainly more fast paced. You run much faster, and weapons is particular seem to pack more punch than they did in UT2004. They brought the game a bit closer to it's UT99 roots.

Shock Rifle is hilarious, as it creates a blackhole effect when you use the shock combo, sucking the guy in and gibbing him. The alternate fire of the enforcer is a triple shot which I actually got a couple kills with, seems better than the Assault Rifle in UT2004. Biorifle and Flak Cannon are mostly the same. Rocket launcher only fires 3 shots but does MUCH more damage than it did in 2004. A single rocket with a direct hit takes out most of your health. Sniper Rifle is in between the one in UT2004 and UT99 in terms of firing speed. Minigun now has an alternate fire which shoots bolts of tarydium out in a slow but accurate way, though I still prefer the standard firing mode. Link Gun's alternate fire actually does something now, and can kill a guy in just a few seconds with sustained fire. It's normal fire plasma bolts now move much more faster than they did in UT2004. The action was pretty chaotic overall.

The Goliath, Hellbender, and Manta are back. Hellbender now has a conventional turret, rather than the charge up kind. Goliath and Manta are mostly the same.

This is one of the few games I'm looking forward to on the PC, along with Crysis. I think it's time for an upgrade. I wish Nvidia would come out with their Geforce 9x series already. Otherwise I'll just have to settle for an 8800 GTS.

graphics are great, but it still doesn't have that UT99 feel. it feels too close to 2004, especially the vehicle side. they feel so soulless.... favorite weapons: sniper rifle (99's is still the best, 2k4's sucked) and the minigun. will i buy? not right now.

It's definitely a mix between UT and UT2003/UT2004, and then add some steroids, and you have UT III.

It's almost playable on my 9700 Pro - 20-40fps at 640x480.

Better than I was expecting though (and it's not like I was seriously expecting to play it on this card anyway ;)).

Be careful of the torrents.
Was just reading the epic forums and there seems to be some bad torrents out there, where the game won't install or won't run.

Someone posted on the forum the correct md5 for the file if your having problems , it should be : 44f2e8040fcb50d8f2a8a11d19cc83ed

Awesome game

Struggles on my 7800GT rig (see sig. EDIT: rig upgraded since then) with noAA/8XAF and medium settings at 1280x1024. Still looks slick. It barely hits 30fps at times and usually hovers around 20 fps. I dare not even try 1920x1200 lol.

The Vehicle CTF seems to run smoother than the DM/TDM for some strange reason.

Vehicles are great but I am not able to switch to pure first person view for the vehicles. Weapons are much better than UT2k4... 'smoother' and more powerful. My favorites are already the sniper rifle and the stinger. :p

BTW, the game would not even launch with AVG installed. The readme said something about some resource conflict with AVG, and uninstalling it was the only way to get it started.

Now, I have a good reason to upgrade my 2 year old system!

WOW !

I just saw the Tripod on Heatray, VERY similar to those in the War of the Worlds movie. I bet it's the main reason why the map itself it named "Heatray" hehe ! The weapons used by the WotW's Tripods are called Heatrays, so it must be a nod to the War of the Worlds. Absolutely amazing stuff. I can already imagine very chaotic matches à-la Invasion where teams of players will face of against teams of Tripods in gigantic maps. I can't wait !

And, also, the corpses Ragdolls is outstanding, very life-like, even better than the Source engine's Ragdolls I would say.

I agree. I wish it was more 99 than 2004. But it's stuck right in between.

Death Match was way too fast. Quake 3 like.

I kind of liked CTF. It was a little more slower paced.

Runs great though.

E6300 @ 3.05ghz on 8600gts maxed out @ 1440x900. Getting around 40fps average maybe a little more. Doesn't dip below 25fps though which is good.
