If you want realism, play Soldier of Fortune 2: Double Helix. Quit your bitching. Honestly, you expect real physics when you can run around shooting plasma, biosludge, and thermonuclear warheads all from the palm of your hand?

Duron 850 is just too slow.
Asus A7V
256MB PC133
GF3 original(default clocks)

800x600
flyby: 65.0
bots: 21.8

Changing texture quality and player quality don't have much affect. Is physics quality the poly count, or physics engine complexity? What are the settings that are cpu limited?

runs like crap on my machine.

Benchies are

1024x768
Flyby: 99
Bots: 58

It starts off fine, but after playing for 5 minutes the frame rate drops like a rock. I can't figure it out. Mauls Dual 1Gig/GF3Ti200 tears it up. My rig is a small beast.

I just got this after 5+ hours of downlaoding so I haven't played much but have noticed the same thing in a couple of matches. It's probably a memory leak.

I have no problems playing it... I expect it to be a bit choppy :p

Geforce2 GTS-V 64 overclocked to 215 GPU / 315-25(?) memory
Atholn 1.2

Flyby 40.69
Bots 25.01
1024x768

I think it's a pretty and fun game

I won't play it as much as CS though probably....

Has anyone gotten online to work I keep getting conenction failed.

I don't care about realism, just fun games. In my opinion the UT engine, including the new UT2003 engine, has a non-fun "feel" to it. I never feel like I'm in the game. Hard to explain. When I play Q3, RTCW I get the feeling of being there. With UT I feel like I'm driving a car instead of walking/running. Hence my comments about the physics still sucking - I don't want "real" physics, just physics which immerse me into the game. I tried playing again and IN MY OPINION they still need some tweaking.

Did I mention that this was all IN MY OPINION? Perhaps that will prevent twits from accusing me of bitching. The purpose of releasing a demo is to check for bugs, check for balanced gameplay, and get user feedback. Please forgive me for providing feedback.

Sorry dude, you're in a UT thread where any sort of bad opinions are BAD, and WRONG. GO TO HELL!

;)

BTW, anyone know what's up with this problem...my graphics computer(dual 1ghz P3s, Geforce ti200, 512 RAM) runs UT2k3 GREAT, while the one I'm currently on (P4 2.4, Geforce 3(better than ti200), gig of RAM) runs it like CRAP, even when I turn ALL the detail to as low as it goes, 640x480, etc...NOTHING. It's so damn choppy it's nearly unplayable. WTF???!

P4's suck on Floating Point intense games. If your using ddr at 266mhz then that's your problem, bandwidth is key.

Do we really need to quote and bottom post so much? Sheesh...everything that you're replying to is right here....

Anyway.... 105- flyby
45 - botmatch
1024x768

Not bad for a $55 CPU and a $71 vid card...

Athlon 1600 clocked to 2000 + a Radeon 8500 clocked to....250/275!!!!. <gasp> Crap, I thought I had that clocked to 280/305. Guess I'll have to re-bench.... <sigh>

I'll wait till the price drops to a penny before I buy this game, just like the previous version.

After 30 minutes it gets boring *yawn*

A penny?

It's not a bad game. It needs more and smaller levels, and some tweaking with the guns...other than that...it's not bad. I was schmoking a couple of guys on the AT server, and it was fairly fun...but more people is a definite MUST on the huge levels they have with this demo. Also, why must the models be so fscking huge and bulky?! They look kind of ghey compared to the original UT. :frown:

Only real major thing I don't like.

In the "stolen" version, there are an insane amount, and they also have a few smaller ones. But they're still a bit oversized, IMHO.

So your saying that a PIII 1GHz on an 815 (SDRAM) board will smoke a P4 2.4 Northwood on a 845E DDR in terms of memory bandwidth?

*I don't think so*

Next caller please.

Nah, I think he's referring to the fact that P4s need all the bandwidth you can throw at them since their FPU isn't too great. Not really sure if that indeed is the problem, but I've got a P4 with PC800 RDRAM and it seems to run great 1600x1200x32 all details without a hitch. But then again I have a Ti4600 so it's hard to tell if its the graphics card or the bandwidth.

ut2k3 takes some getting used to, but I'm starting to like it. After I won a few rounds using the new and "improved" shock rifle it really started to get fun. If the full game doesn indeed look better, that will be a plus too.

It's ok, but, it's basically UT with some prettiness added, right? I mean, all the weapons are basically the same, gameplay basically the same. Physics are a little different, but the "ragdoll" thing is just eyecandy and gets pointless after you've seen it once. I was hoping for some new stuff, but this plays more like an add-on, and not even that, because usually add-ons give you new weapons.

Yeas, I understad that. But the 815 is not a bandwidth champion, in fact its quite the contrary. There has to be a config problem on my machine. I have another P4 (Socket 423 1.5) with DDR on the VIA P4X266 platform with a Radeom 8500LE and its faster that my machine. Soo00ooo, I need to do some tweaking. It benches vary fast, with is strange. The times I get are nearly on par with a GF4 4200.

uhh, the weapons are different enough that they are not really the same...

I agree. The weapons are quite a bit different. Even the weapons that exist in both games (by name anyways) are much different from each other. The game is far from being an add on pack IMO. An add on pack is what epic released 4 times for original UT. This is definately a completely new game.

Hey, it plays magnificently on a G550 at 1024x768... not bad for an older generation video card. :)

EDIT.. well it plays great for about 10 minutes and then kicks out or reboots... :(

Everytime I try to get on the network to serach for servers it tells me error or something. I had this happen with another game. I am sharing my internet with a Router/switch by Linksys.

Anybody else have this problem, or know how to get around it?

Thanks
