UT 2003 demo out

Hmm.. I got in once and managed to frag mechBgon.. after that the game keeps GPF'ing. I've un-installed the Radeon 8500 and installed a GeForce4 MX card and am still getting the same GPF. :disgust:

Oh well, it is a Beta.. I've submitted bug reports - not much else to do.

Wow, great fun! Hi to everyone I met on muttley's.

I've noticed some phenomen, some players can vanish in thin air then re-appear :Q Very hard to aim/trace them
I am not familiar with UT(better read up the faqs!)

/me think maybe that's what Translocator is all about.

Yeah, Translocator is the reason people vanish. It's one of the weapons (if the server has it enabled). Very handy for escaping trouble

Oh, and if you manage to translocate into the middle of another player, that's a "telefrag" I got a few lucky telefrags in, when I had nothing else to fight with.

i want to thank muttley for running the server. it's a lot of fun. the only problem is that no one is on at midnight pacific time! that's when i'm at my peak! oh well, i'll practice on the bots.

Unsolved Mysteries of UT2003 Demo

• What the heck do the Adrenaline capsules do?
• Where is the Invisibility boost located in the Asbestos map? I tailed bots as a spectator for about 30 minutes, hoping to get a clue as to where it's found, but noooo.... :|
• Ditto for the jump boots, or whatever makes a player give off yellow contrails as he runs, and fly when he pleases
• What does it mean when a player is emenating a cloud of little green + symbols? (I am going on the working theory that it means "Hey!! You wit de Rocket Launcher! Frag ME!!!" )
• What does it mean when a player is surrounded by a rotating red oval thing? (same working theory is being applied until I find out more )
• How is the Translocator's camera activated?

Inquiring minds want to know!

Networkman, I have a Radeon 8500 that was giving me problems in UT2003 as well.

I initially thought it was a driver issue because I had swapped out a Geforce3 Ti200 when I got the Radeon 8500 and never did any OS reinstall. So, I reinstalled the OS and installed the latest ATI Catalyst drivers. I played the game yesterday morning and it ran fine so I thought I had fixed the problem.

Last night, I went to play on Muttley's server and the game kept crashing on me. I noticed some artifacting going on with the graphics. Just for grins, I download the Powerstrip overclocking utility and underclocked my video card. Running it at slower speeds has fixed the problem completely.

I think the card is extremely heat sensitive and doesn't like even stock speeds when the ambient temperature is high. That's why I was able to run the game in the early morning when my office is cooler, but not in the evening after the office warmed up from the sun shining in all day!

Bottomline, you might want to try underclocking the ol' vid card!

I downloaded the PowerStrip utility and took my video clock speeds down to 240.75 MHz(from 275) and while it is a little more stable, I'm still getting GPF'd out after about 4 minutes. BTW, this is Win98SE(patched) on an XP1800 and 256megDDR.

I have to go to work now, but if you've got any more ideas, I'm open to them.

/me whacks his Dell Lattitude C800 and the blasted ATI mobile vid it uses!!!! :|

Tried running UT2003 on this Dell, PIII1Ghz, but no go, even with Dell's latest ATI drivers. It gave me a familiar scene. A screen, all out of sync, looks like multiple versions of the screen, all shaky, can't read anything. Tried safe mode, but same result.

Same thing happened to me when I updated my home PC's vid card, ATI Rage 128 with ATI's "approved" WIn2K drivers. They caused the same thing and I had to uninstall them. :|

The best thing I ever did for the stability of my home PC was to switch to a GeForce 256 32M, paid $15.00 for it used.


Doesn't really matter that much, as I IS SUCK @ UT2003. It just would have been nice to be able to play it on my laptop.

Your weapon turns purple when you have double damage, so it shouldn't be that. Maybe the +'s symbolize 199 health or something...

Don't do it for me, as I was playing single user last night, and I had a terrible time beating the bots set on Experienced. In Instagib no less, which used to be my best weapon. *sigh* I IS SUCK @ UT

Maybe we should kick the bots down a notch. Not everyone has a low-ping connection, might help.

I thought the bots were at a pretty good level.

I hopped on this morning (just me and the bots at 7 AM EDT) and was able to keep pace with them. My ping was pretty low though.

Maybe kicking the bots down a notch is a good idea to make the server more accessible to all players.

Mech, you going to kick my @$$ again tonight or what?
