how do I install this on a redhat 7.2 machine?
the file ends in .sh.bin ut2003-demo-linux.sh.bin

thanks
muttley

Sorry I didn't get chance to get back to you muttley - the .bin file should hopefully be set to be executable and you should be able to either doubleclick it from a file manager program or you can bring up a terminal, change to the directory where it is located, and type

./ut2003-demo-linux.sh.bin

My systems locks hard. The only way to recover is to reset the entire system. I've been doing a little more research and there have been postings in the newsgroups about issues between the Radeon 8500 and the Epox 8KHA+.

If a reinstall of the OS and an update of drivers and BIOS don't fix the problem, I just might have to buy a new motherboard and/or video card 😀

How disappointing that would be!! 😉

Going to leave work soon and head home and try the reinstall. Will post with the results once I have my system up and running again 🙂

Resolution: 800x600
Flyby: 22.481577
Botmatch: 9.610631

Damn, I feel so behind the times. A Radeon 8500 or 9700 would be in order, if it weren't for the fact that my monitor just went bad and I'm going to have to be spending money to get another one. 🙁 :|

OK guys, Alex's becnhmark is real! :Q I am here and saw it with my own eyes!

Not bad for my old 64mb GF2MX400 😉

Granted it did just flick into the first (outdoor flyby) then out again, but it's still a valid benchmark

😉

Confused

i played it. I love it! UT 2003 is just awsome.

My only complaint is that when i get a certain gun the graphics get all messed up!

works fine on my machine, pentium 4 2ghz, 512MB pc2700, and ATI AIW Radeon. Runs pretty good considering it's an old video card.

I couldn't figure out the multiplayer part of it though. *shrugs* oh well ...

well other than that wish me luck for court wednesday! thanks ... doh!

xxsk8er101xx,

To go to the multiplayer server, go into a Deathmatch single player game, then press shift ` to get the ~

That gives you a command line over on the left. type "open 24.31.216.77" without the "" to open Mutley's server. 😀

My rig isn't going to cut it for multiplayer. At first it was ok, but as more people got on, it got real laggy, to where it was like I was running in place, replaying the same set of frames over and over. it was making me dizzy.

however, I did get in a few good shots on Engineer and Fingers. Although with Fingers, it was like a 1 to 4 frag ratio. For every 1 frag I got Fingers, he got me 4 times. :Q 😀

Me=slow+rig=slow+vid=slow=I IS SUCK! :Q

The only thing that kept me ahead of Engineer was the fact that I've played UT before. And I got a few lucky rocket shots off. 😀
😀

Hello...I'm Engineer...and I'm everyone's rocket launcher Biach! :Q

Buwhahahahahahahahah!

I still don't know how to move around well.....also, what does everyone use to play? Mouse+keyboard, joystick?

I'm trying to learn...but the game is damn fast! :Q

I use mouse and keyboard, I like to jump a lot so I set right mouse to jump and changed alt fire to shift. I use the arrows for strafe left/right and forward backward. I know some people like to use the letters awsd for those functions, but I can't stand that.

edit: well i'm going back in now, just let me know if ya want me to go easy on ya 😀

Neural-interface helmet 😀

Ok, not really. I use a mouse and keyboard, with an unconventional use of the arrow keys (up = forward, right = backward, left = left, down = right) that lets me have fingers on both the fore and aft keys simultaneously. The Ctrl key by the arrows is Jump, Shift is Crouch, Numpad0 is Translocator. Pressing the mouse wheel down is Best Weapon. So I can switch from Translocator to my current best weapon and back on a moment's notice. You've been warned... 😀

The Shield Gun is lookin' useful for CTF, too. If you capture the flag and might be taking sniper fire from lightning guns on your way back, kick in the shield mode on the Shield Gun and try to backpedal when practical.

Hmm, my game started losing touch with the server. You know... fire weapon, nothing happens... bots are standing still or running against the wall. Guess I'll take a coffee break 😀

Ray, I still don't know how you got me when I was falling towards the rocket launcher like that.

LOL! 😀

One time I got lucky, you turned a corner and I was there, shot you point blank with the flak gun. I didn't even know it was you until after I fragged ya. 😀

It was still a 1 to 4 ratio. 😛

Now if you would just stand still for a minute.......

😉😉

I must say it plays a LOT like the old UT. I run around, get a few frags, and get fragged OFTEN. Yep, 'bout like I remember.....

😀

Well, I finally got the OS reinstalled last night and I was able to get UT2003 demo installed on the machine this morning.

Here are my preliminary benchmarks before any sort of overclocking of the CPU or video card:

Flyby: 115.434494
Botmatch: 47.746189
Resolution: 1024x768

Not too shabby!

Here are my system specs:

AMD Athlon XP 1900+
Epox 8KHA+
512 megs Crucial PC2100
Radeon 8500 (latest Catalyst drivers)

When I get home from work tonight I'm going to try to crank up the settings a little higher and see if I can squeeze some more FPS out of my system. Then I'm hopping onto Muttley's server and have some fraggin' fun!

Hope to see you there 😀 The bots are just about right, you can't take your time or they'll reach 25 frags before you do. And Translocator is activated 😀

Server is back up.

I switched the server to a different computer and forgot to set the router up.

The software didn't like it when I had it on a dualie and one set on dedicated server and then I'd join in even when the second instance was in a different directory.

Wow, UT2003 is really cool. I've been waiting for realistic outdoor environments like that since Doom 2. Too bad my DC proggie is going to suffer in the background.

Well I jumped on Muttley's server for awhile. Ran excellent. Thanks.

Watch out for MechBgon and his rocket launcher. He won every match I was in. He is damn good with that thing. He killed me much more often than anybody else.

I don't know how you guys aim so well, but i've always been more of a strategy gamer (love Warcraft 3) though.

Wild seeing Mech and Engineer in there. Game keeps crashing out on me even after DLing the 3 Meg patch file. Machine keeps running. Trying everything to try and get the game to keep running.

Big thanks, muttley! 😀 That was a blast! 😀

Now, I'm not much for aiming, artemedes. I rely on area-effect weapons like the Flak cannon, the Rocket Launcher or the Shock Rifle, and I try to be a "resource hog" and grab the health and shields as much as possible. 😀

Umm, you serious?

You're never too old to "dumpster dive" is what I say. 😉

You'd be amazed at the stuff that gets thrown out at computer stores and the like.

I was the "King of RMA(return merchandise authorization)" at my last job. 😉

We finally got some UT time Tom 😀 , that we talked about way back when during that bad time , of course you blasted me too with the launcher
