Why is that preposterous?

It is fact.
Take a look at the Brazillian rainforest for example. In it, every single day, new species are born, and new species die. Mosquitos there are constantly changing with each generation in order to survive in the conditions at hand. We, humans have done the same thing. Take a look at different skin colours for instance. I once asked a very religious person (very well versed in biblical studies) how the Bible explained the different skin colours of humans. He told me that after years of living in different climates, people's body's had adapted to the conditions. African's skin had become dark to fight off harmful sun damage.

When I asked, "Isn't that just evolution" I never recieved a response.
 
I do see it from both sides. I'm lucky I went to a very good school that taught things from all angles. I just find it hard to believe that one "being" waved his hand and things just happened. Why did he "kill off" those cute woolly mammoths? What did he "invent" rats? Why did he make poisonous snakes that harm cute little chipmunks? Why did he make hundreds of different breeds of dogs? Was he bored? Did he just screw up lots of times? Why didn't he create a hybrid Shi tsu and bulldog and call it a "bullsh_t"? Where is this unicorn thing I've heard so much about?

Hard for me to ponder all that when I;ve been offered compelling evidence with the Galapagos Finches that Darwin writes about.

Also, plant's abilities to seed is directly related to their survival. If you look at any fruit, you will notice that it contains seed(s). If this fruit is eaten, the seed survives the digestion process, and is later found in the excrement of the animal that ate it - usually far away from the origonal site. This is how plants are able to spread their growth throught large spans of land - by being eaten. Thus they needn't "sprout legs and run away."

Viper, if you read my post or have taken any Anthropology course, you would know that species cannot &quot;sprout legs&quot; and just run away. Species must chnage and mutate. Perhaps one day a plant will mutate and develop legs. The legs must then prove an advantage for it to survive. Who knows a plant may one have had legs and ran free but died off because they had a propensity to walk off of cliffs a-la Wile E. Coyote.

OK, so you guys are telling me that we(humans) EVOLVED from monkeys, eh? So, I heard once that DARWIN(some fscking nut who decided to not believe in the bible and made up some bullsh!t about us evolving from fscking MONKEYS!!) says we came from the sea(fish) and such, and there was no humans before this happened. Well...then that means that we should be evolving to something ELSE quite soon....and we have lived as humans for quite a loooong time......EH?

I bet that the percent of lesser-educated people that believe in god is greater than that of the portion of the populance with more educational instruction(college degree of atleast 4 years, purchased educations don't count(e.g. rich kid, football player)).

A Great WRITTER can PROVE anything, as long as you can convince the reader what your saying.

Same goes for the Bible, it's just what convinces you more, Scientist, or 2000 year old scrolls.
 
Interesting questions, if god created the world then who created god? If god has allways existed then why cant the world have allways existed? Would god still exist if every man on this planed died?

Even supposidly deadly traits can be an advantage. Sickle Cell Anemia is common among people of African decent. Why? The disorder has a lower motality rate compared to the dealdy disease known as malaria. Those with Sickle Cell Anemia have a immunity the deadly effects such as high fever and swelling of the brain. Appraently the misshapen hemogloben isn't a good transport medium. That is an extreme case and other genetic disorders are simply begnign. Albinos do not have the trait that lets the body generate pigment. They are no worse or better off than any other person.

It took millions of years to evolve to what we are now and it will take millions more to evolve in something different, dont expect someone to flip you the finger and tell you to change.



Why is it that creationism fallower always want scientific proof for evolution still they call evulution religion, then also why cant they give any scientific proof for creationism?

I was not attempting to suggest that a plant could sprout legs in an instant, it just seems to me that the ability of a plant to run from it's enemies would have been a valuable asset. If they've had the millions of years to develop all the other marvelous things they have, is it really that unlikely that legs could have been developed? Or, take it a step further... Why are there less developed species than humans at all? Why haven't all the species moved upwards and onwards?

why am I troll? I´m just asking you questions and I´m not judging anyone, I´m just telling you my opinion on certain subject. My big point is that religion is not science, it should not be mixed. You can belive whatever you want as long as science gets to move on, when religion stops science then it just makes me mad.
 
Where in the New Testament does Creationism come from? I thought this was just Genesis (Old testament) allegorical writings. So why are Christians so attached to those early writings that were cultural as well as religious?
 
I think most people believe in evolution on some scale - I certainly do. Did the grey-spotted northern skunk and the white-spotted northern skunk both likely evolve from the original Northern Skunk? I would think so.

But evolution, while explaining a lot of the species and life on earth, misses one, key question:

If all life evolved from a bunch of chemicals from the &quot;Big Bang&quot;... what was there before the &quot;Big Bang&quot;?

Why don't they both make sense together? God created the base &quot;stuff&quot; and set the ball rolling towards evolving higher and higher life forms. At some point, he then either created us or we evolved and at that point we were given &quot;souls&quot;. The only parts of evolution that do not work with creationism are:

1) That our &quot;souls&quot; evolved into being.
and
2) That whatever matter existed before the big bang existed eternally/ always existed.


In other points, they can both be true quite nicely.

And yes, this is very obviously today's anti-religion troll. We get one every 1-2 days here.

Even if we did evolve from Monkeys, why is that such a horrible this to contemplate. As far as I am aware though, DNA research has recently debunked that theory. Also, it has been shown that Neanderthals and humans lived together - near the same time period - but did not interbreed, nor did we evolve from them. Instead, we killed them off (being the 'supirior' species). However, none of this changes the fact that evolution is all around us.

Society is evolving every day - changing to meet the needs of its people. Societies that change for the worse eventually die off - and thus we have the ever changing 'superpowers' of the world. The Roman Empire was once the greatest in the world, but when its rulers strayed away from the styles of governing that brought prosperity to the society as a whole, it died and other cultures reigned. Thus is evolution.
 
Before you read this post realize that I do not believe in God. Hear me out, my Great uncle was a priest stricken with cancer, and a wife suffering a worse fate with Emphysema (not a smoker). And I asked him, if God does exist why does he strike down the ones who praise him the most? His answer was the same answer that's been handed out for years, &quot;The lord works in mysterious ways.&quot; I believe that religon was a standard that was setup long ago to keep people in line. Before the times of mass communication, people were heathens, killing each other, having sex with their brother's and sister's. It was a chaotic time, what's the solution?? To put the fear of a after life of eternal suffering for the wrongs you commit here. It's the perfect setup, there is no way to prove me right or wrong. I simply believe that we are a smart animal, smart enough to split an atom, and to create a god that we need to fear to keep the heathen's in line. The fear of this so called &quot;God&quot; is needed more today than it was then, the wrongs of today far outweight the wrongs of then. Just remember when you think there is a holy power watching over you, think again, you may believing a lie that's as old as time itself. Just for brain food.
 
&quot;Moving upwards&quot; is a very generic term to apply to it all. Many species do not need to move upwards. Take crocodiles and other reptiles for example. They have remained nearly unchanged for hundred of millions or years and proven in fossil records because further evolution would server no advantage. Human for example would have died off long ago if it were not for our superior intelligence compared to other species. If humans suddenly lost all the technologies we have developed such as farming, the wheel, steel, concrete, the internal combustion engine, etc.. we would not last several thousand years.

Using that, here is an example of hwo evolution would work. Drop your entire high school class in the Serengeti. How many of the slow runners would survive? My guess it not too many. While not all the slow runners would get killed off, there would be less slow runners than fast runners. Fast runners then mate and more fast runners are created. Of those, fast runners, the slower less fit ones would also be turned into lion kibble. Over many many many generations, those &quot;less fit&quot; are displaced by those that better suit the environment. Of course fast runners will get killed. I mean, you're taking a nice long dump behind a bush and a snake can come along and bite you in the ass. it's a simple example but demonstrates what evolution is all about.

But no matter how many generations of &quot;fast runners&quot; later you decide to take a look at the population of deserted high school students, they're still deserted high school students. That doesn't change, you're simply eliminating the weak. Just like the weak &amp; sick get weeded out of a herd of zebras. But they're still zebras.

sharpton, I agree with your veiw totally, and that brings about my greatest annoyance with the Bible. It seems to have been created so ingeniously that there is no way that its foundation can be proved or disproved. Most everything contained in it is vague enought that people can use it as a defence for almost any situation. The parts of it that do seem specific (even the ones that are dreadfully evil/wrong/horrid ) can be used to further the Bible's widespead use since its readers can simply say &quot;It isn't meant to be read literally... This represents ....&quot;. But again, there is no way to prove that their interpretation is correct or incorrect.

If something is disproven in the Bible, this excuse can be made, and it still holds its ground. Then, it can go farther and try to disprove other beliefs/proofs on the same thesis. While the inginuity of the Bible's construction amazes me, its seeming purpose sickens me.
 
Change is relative Viper. If you want to see change, look at more simple life forms like a virus which has a very short life cycle. If you want to see Zebra and humans change, you would have to live 10,000, 100,000, or even 1,000,000 years. Did you even bread fruitflies in biology. We once cross bread fruit flies where red eyes was a dominant trait over green eyes which was recessive. In each succeeding generation, there were less and less green eyed flies and more and more red eyed flies.

Like I said, it was a very simple example, you need to take into account other factors.
