I seems the MAGA insurrectionists are up for round 2 and want to come to DC on the 19th. Calls for cops to be executed.

Those dudes are going to get a muuuuuch different reception if they show.

Indeed they will as the DC National Guard will be outfitted with M4s and live rounds this time.

Post #701 above. "You can go to Washington on Jan 6 and help storm the Capital," said one 8kun user a day before the siege. "As many Patriots as can be. We will storm the government buildings, kill cops, kill security guards, kill federal employees and agents, and demand a recount.”

And allowed them to walk out of the building peacefully after they ransacked it for hours. It all boggles my mind.
I know. That was an attempted coup, and not even a surprising one at that. I'm not generally a proponent for violent solutions, however anyone that entered that building should have left in cuffs, or a body bag had they directed violence towards security forces.

The last 4 years haven't exactly painted the US in a great light to both your allies and enemies, but this was a new low. A literal and metaphorical assualt on your democracy and you rolled over like a scared puppy.

^^ There was a school of though that escalation leads to escalation. First, get them out and secure the building, then go to their homes to arrest them. That seems to be working. Had there been shots fired (other than the one), would it have turned into a firefight?

Plus think of the taxpayer bill to repair all the bullet holes and clean all the bloodstains from the Capitol building!

It should never have been allowed to happen in the first place. This event wasn't a surprise. Sufficient force should have been deployed to dissuade the very thought of a coup.

Well this doesn't bode well

The survey released by YouGov on Thursday morning found that 45 percent of Republican voters backed the attack on the Capitol building, while 43 percent said they "strongly or somewhat" opposed the protesters' behavior.

Six percent of Republicans were unsure while a further 6 percent said they were unaware of the events.

It's that 6% that most surprises me. Have they been stuck in a drink-and-drug stupor since overdoing it for the New Year celebrations?

I've been watching my google news feed on my phone. If that were my sole source of news, I'd also have no clue something even happened.

Sounds like an opportunity to cleanse the gene pool a bit. I just hope nobody in law enforcement is injured dealing with these insane clowns.

I get that, and in this situation it actually may have been the best outcome.

But how in the hell would this be a good formula to use across the board? A hostile force--and appearances be damned, I realize there was a doofus in a buffalo hat leading this one--storms the Capitol, is the move always going to be to let them do their thing for hours? It was not at all clear that the Congress people could get out, it's good fortune that they did. If these Coup Klux Klan inbreds had been actual competent terrorists, who knows what could have happened.

Not a single person should have been allowed in that building on penalty of withering live rounds. I don't care which side the protesters were on, if these were bleeding heart liberals upset at trees getting cut down they still should have been warned that "set foot any further, you will be fired upon." This is the damn Capitol, not some drivers license office in Des Moine.

Per CNN, Twitter has permanently nuked the orance menace's twitter account.

I was worried it might be worse when this came up on NBC news.
Still, 4.5% would just indicated that it was the nuts that believed this; 45% is just way too many brainwashed republicans.

On the one hand I didn't want to watch that, because it felt kind of morbid, even morally questionable to do so. On the other hand I really was curious why that one individual got shot when so many others were part of the assault and emerged entirely unharmed.

All I can say is - what a momumental fiasco. I know people can say she bought it on herself by doing something so insane and illegal, but it's just absurd it was allowed to get to that point, where whoever's handgun that was (SS or cop?) felt they had to open fire to stop that last barrier protecting Congresscritters being breached. That somebody died, even a slightly insane person doing something both illegal and threatening, is another bad concequence of the way the police and the relevant authorities catastrophically mismanaged the whole affair. The blood is also on Trump's hands, of course - though he's clearly incapable of ever registering responsibility for anything he does.

No, not this - please. Since these are gun nuts, seeing a few thousand M4 (A1?) carbines and M16s (A4?) in the hands of the capitol and national guards should give them pause. They know the damage that can be done very quickly. I do hope we have water cannons and other non-lethal crowd dispersal means at our disposal.

Clearly the authorities aren't students of history. The Chamberlain method of fascist appeasement ends poorly for all involved.

Either I've gone blind, or Beschloss quoted the 17th. Surprised the nuts aren't going for the 20th for their 'revolution'.
I was going to question this on twitter when I kept seeing the 19th. Then I realized their plan is to take buildings, congress members (either as hostages or kill them), BEFORE the 20th, in an attempt to prevent the inauguration of Biden. They may also try to attempt to assassinate Biden/Harris. This is not going to end well if they do not put the national guard in DC at every government building, starting now and keep them for at least 2 weeks AFTER Biden is sworn in.

God I hope they do. Hopefully only hurting themselves.

This tells me the Lincoln Project may only be weeks away from launching their new 3rd-party (funded by Dems lol).

Sounds like 45% may be ready to quit the party.
