Ephedra is no worse than caffeine... stupid retards take massive amounts of it and have heart attacks... if you take 800mg of caffeine in 4 pills you'll have a heart attack too.

Now i gotta go stock up.

And no I don't use it to burn fat.

guess it's time to ban caffeine..what else ya got?

Cheese burgers and eggs should go as well since they are a major contributor to heart attacks....

Slippery slopes suck

WTF are you talking about? where is the slippery slope? Ephedra makes normal healthy people drop dead from heart attacks, it is a dangerous drug/supplement and it should be banned.

Agh
Those healthy people took way to many and did a ton of physical activity without drinking the proper amount of water. Yes, you will die if you take 400mg of ephedra. DUH

Every thing of ephedra i've used has been around 25mg *along with 200-300mg of caffeine* and stated not to take more than 3 times a day.

If you can't follow directions and you drop dead it's your own damn fault.

Citrix, Tylenol, the flu shot and several other over the counter medicines kill many more normal healthy people than what ephedra is claimed to have. In fact, I have read several of the FDA's case studies and almost all of them could not difinitively link ephedra to the death.

BTW, do most of you realize that ephedra was already banned once, up until the mid 90s. The FDA could not support it's continued ban, and of course the Supplement Act came out, and ephedra was relegalized. The reason the FDA hasn't gone after is since is because there is no hard proof that ephedra is the cause of any of these deaths. Just speculation and conjecture.

If there is no proof then why is the FDA banning it?

Here is a quote from the FDA website on the subject.

"Are you banning Ephedra?

That is, essentially, what the rule will do. The rule will conclude that dietary supplements containing ephedrine alkaloids present an unreasonable risk to the public health and are adulterated and unacceptable under Section 402(f)(1)(A) of the FD&C Act. "

Public outcry from sensationalists like yourself. Couple that with the NFL and the MLB making high profile regulations against it after being pushed by grieving wives of dead idiots.

How about banning cigarettes IF they are really trying to "save lives".

Aspirin kills far more people a year then Ephedra has killed in the history of the world.

Time to get rid of the current admin IF we want freedom of choice. 😉

Why are they REALLY banning it?

Because the Pharmaceutical Companies don't want competition from herbs for their expensive chemicals. And the current admin is owned by big business. It's simple and what most of you don't want to hear. 😛

wonder if this effects SUDAFED In anyway at all

its so Hugely popular, and i am sure its a big earner for the company which makes it

does it ban certain dosage or completely?

No they are completely different.

Ephedra/Ma Huang vs. Psuedoephedrine.

hmmm, weren't those two doing 2 a days in high heat situations and dehydrated? darwin award.

there have been studies where <20 mg of ephedra with caffeine worked better than prescription drugs in reducing weight. there have been cases where people have had brain hemmoraging by taking ephedra, but these individuals were abusing it. in response to healthy people dropping dead from it, normal healthy people can die from drinking too much water, should we start restricting that? it's a case of responsible people having to pay the price for irresponsible people.

Pick up a pack of cigarettes, flip it over and look at the tax stamp, multiply that by the numbers of packs sold legally in the US every year. It's probably one of the highest money generators on Capitol Hill. You can say the same with liquor...each bottle is heavily taxed.

If a similar tax was put on OTC drugs or the FDA was paid off, their would be no banning of any herbs

Just one more example of the government proving that personal freedom is a contradiction in terms anymore. Also more proof that the highest private sector bidder gets to determine what we're allowed to do with our lives. Super.

If this ban includes ephedrine hydrochloride, then this is THEE stupidest drug ban EVAR. I use ephedrine for lung problems in 50mg doses or less. I haven't read up yet but I've saw the MSNBC thingy with the ephedra bottle.....375mg per dose; you deserve a heart attack.

Dude, have you ever tried those yellowjackets? Those things mess you up. I'm pretty much immune to everything so I downed the whole three pack to cover me for my long drive back home once. I was so fvcking twitchy. Plus they broke my wang for the evening. My girlfriend at the time was not happy. Neither was I though :Q

LOL!!!

I don't think I've ever had that brand.

At the local asian corner market by where my girlfriend used to live.. they had these blister packs of "Ephedra 850", they were 99 cents and had 3 moderate sized black pills in them.

IIRC, they had like 500mg of ephedra and 350mg of something that had caffeine in it, in them.

I tried three once. That was just too much. Two was more reasonable.

They didn't, um.. break my wang though. My girlfriend and I would each get a pack and eat two and then stay up all night and um, yeah. 😉 That was when we first met.. haven't done that in a long time. Doesen't look like we'll be able to now.. lol

🙂😛

Its about time! I remember being hooked on Ripped Force and taking it 15 minutes prior to working out(sometimes 2-3 times a day). No side effects my ass! After working out, i recall not being able to stay put in one place and seeing black dots. It even got to a point where i was not able to sleep. Sure it worked and i lost a body fat and was a mad man in the weight room(benching an lifting the whole gym). For all of you guys and girls out there using Ephedra, pls think twice about or if you decide to use it, pls take it in moderation.

Hello small minded people. Currently, the FDA criteria for banning something is NOT based on the total number of deaths or complaints they recieve for it. It IS based on how many high profile deaths occur though. Basically if you have one dumb@ss football player dies one year, and then one dumb@ss baseball player dies the next year, that supplement will probably be banned (doesn't matter if the football player forgot to keep himself hydrated while training in intense heat, or that the baseball player disregarded warning about people with pre-existing cardiovascular issues).

That's the nice thing about the US government; it protects its people when they are too stupid to do so themselves (except in the case of cigarettes, or prescription drugs).

Maybe if OTC drugs would start paying off politicians they would not be banned

Actually OTC drugs and the supplement industry are regulated differently. I have no problem if the FDA required the supplement industry to have certain mandatory labeling, or age-restrictions on buying certain products, but banning supplements is sensationalism at its purest. I think more than a few members in this thread are living proof of that.

i thought they did years ago, before they were deregulated? i think thats why we're flooded with so many bullsh*t products now, you can sell most anything as a food supplicment without testing. from penis pills to breast enhancing pills etc.

you can label most anything as a suppliment, why shouldn't it be tested like drugs? natrual doesn't mean harmless by any stretch of the imagination.

So dumb, you little retards who blowjob the FDA and their information.

Ephedra is banned, not ephedrine you asscracks. Means nothing - ephedrine exists in so many over the counter remedies, along with pseudephedrine. And guess what? both work the same as a precursor to methamphetamine. This is simply a pacification of the the hysteria created by that idiot baseball player's death. That's all.

Meth is still a hop, skip, and a jump away. Nothing's changed, except you toolboxes have a spoonful more of the government's jizz on your chin.

...the FDA intends for ephedra-containing dietary supplements to stay off the market. A rule is the most efficient and powerful way to achieve successful enforcement. It will apply to all types of currently-marketed dietary supplements containing ephedrine alkaloids, not individual products.

So it seems ephedrine in all its forms is going to be banned. That quote is from the FDA's website, FOUND HERE.

I'd wipe that "jizz" off your chin, if I were you.

Supplement buyers beware - many more of the various roots, extracts, oils, and whatnots that are sold as dietary supplements are soon going to come under FDA scrutiny.

As it is right now, they have a license to sell them freely, this will not be the case shortly.
Very doubtful. First, ephedra hasn't been pulled from the shelves yet and won't be for several months. Second, the ban will never get passed the courts.

It defies all rational basis to ban one product because of inconclusive, often weak, links to a handful of deaths or heat strokes in a 10 year period, most precipitated by misuse of the product contrary to the labeling such as ephedra, but continue to deem "safe" dozens of other products that are conclusively linked to mortality and morbidity in hundreds of people every year like aspirin and ibuprofen.

However, it does dispell the constant assertion by opponents of the supplement industry that the FDA "has no power to regulate or ban supplements". As proven by this announcement, the FDA has all of the power it needs to ban anything deemed harmful for public consumption, be it drugs or vitamins, and always has. That doesn't mean the FDA knows how to competently use this power, but they have it.

Next the FDA will be regulating your vitamin and mineral supplements, causing the price to quadruple.

Well it looks like the Meth Industry will move up to Canada where Ephedra can easily be obtained.

Nope, been banned for a few years now in Canada.
