Shrug, Bush Jr was from Connecticut and went to Harvard.
Shrub was and is an awww shucks Texan; it's not where he went to school that matters. I don't know where Reagan was born, nor do I care. He was a Hollywood actor, and assuming he was transported 40 years into the future and much of his biography stayed the same, he's not ascending to the top of today's GOP. The most prominent GOP politician from California in this century is fmr. Speaker Kevin McCarthy, and he was forced out of office by predator Matt Gaetz.
Trump is indeed from NYC, but he's a very special case. He's really a cult leader, and his cult of celebrity was really amplified by Hollywood. I realize that sounds a bit contradictory but Trump's playbook isn't one you can easily replicate. By appealing to white nationalism, he did a hostile takeover of the GOP; he didn't ascend up its ranks organically.
I'm from California, but much of the country envisions us as some leftist dystopia. Weird considering we're nominally the 5th largest economy in the world, but my point is California politicians aren't well positioned to win the nomination for presidency. IMO that would also apply to Reagan in today's environment even though he's lionized as the last great GOP president.
