Tried again today, but with different people and did it on a 2700 desktop RAM. Took it straight to the register. A lady told me it was for online purchases only, I was like WTF? At least read the coupon b4 making a fool out of urself. The man looked at it, was pretty casual and called up his manager I would presume. So the manager came over and she was really cool with it. Talked to some people on the phone and said it only works if I get them to install it, and that it would take a few days since there are so many customers. So I said, why not just give us the RAM? I mean you just plug it in... She thought about it, and was cool, ran to the Geeks to ask something and ran back (very hot action 😀) leaned over to get something with her ass facing me 😱 and pulled up a receipt saying it was basically free, and that it can't be returned. We chatted as she processed the thing and said that they had to deal with this ALL DAY LONG. I asked how many people came in with this coupon, and she replied about 45 😵 Good experience overall, 50% free RAM 50% hot latin manager chick.

This is actually not a valid coupon, and we are not honoring it in my store. Reason would be this - The coupon was originally an online printable coupon (sent via e-mail to select customers in select markets) with the explicit statement that a computer bundle or notebook must be purchased alongside it, as well as Geek Squad install services must be purchased with it. This text is mysteriously missing from the largely circulated version...word around the campfire is that it was digitally altered and web-spread before the corporate office caught on to what was going on, but the official line I'm hearing is that it was a misprint or something, never meant for public distribution.
Anyway, it's null and more and more Best Buys should be refusing to honor it.
This is what I have been told anyway. I am not sure how accurate or inaccurate it is.
Before you all get up in arms, I do have a few things to say. Firstly, I don't know why everyone is so hot to screw Best Buy over, or what this grudge is against them, but they are not a bad company. They treat their employees really well (at least at my store) and offer a lot of nice perks and incentives simply for doing your job well....I mean perks people care about, not an "Employee of the Month" certificate. They cut checks, they give gift cards, they hook you up with gift certificates. Stuff you want.
Secondly, don't be surprised if they refuse to honor this (bogus) coupon or are against giving you stuff for free. They are a business. They are in business to make money. Giving away merchandise does not lend itself to that end. Those of you surprised at this fact need to go get re-educated on free market capitalism. I really don't see the qualm you all have with actually paying for merchandise. Most of you are gainfully employed, yes?
Anyway, that's the "inside scoop", so have at.
i too work at best buy and if you check employee toolkit and go to the retail insider for geek squad for around the date when the coupon first came out it says that we are supposed to honor the coupon, there was a misprint in that it was supposed to be for non-sale items but since it was a misprint and best buy's fault that we should honor it if the customer demands it. your manager was feeding you BS, there is no way someone could digitally alter a coupon ON BEST BUY'S WEBSITE.
and to those (dumb) people wondering why best buy managers don't want to honor it, its because this cuts into margin and therefore their bonuses.

I saw two customers try to take advantage of this deal today and they both got scorched. The guy even called 888-BestBuy and spent like 20 minutes on the phone with the CSR but the GM flat out refused to honor the coupon and told the guy he didn't care what the customer service line said, they weren't his boss and he wasn't reversing his position. He said he'd honor the coupon with a new PC purchase, but not by itself.
We had correction notices about the coupon posted in all the appropriate departments as well.
Further expounding, what happened was (I was told) that the coupon was misprinted at first, then e-mailed to select customers with the body of the e-mail stating that it was good with new PC purchases, then re-printed with the correct text *on the coupon* and re-emailed, but the misprinted version has since found its way around the web. Supposedly stores have been notified not to honor the coupon.
I still don't know what the official line is. I think each store is just taking it on their own policy.

No kidding. I'm going to be trying a 3rd BB near me. I had enough hassle with the 2nd store, no polite/friendly employees there that's for sure.

Look for females, they tend to be easier. Oh and teenagers and young guys mostly won't give any hassle, they really don't care that much for Best Buy.

I will say I enjoy working at my store because the managers are such hardasses. You have to understand, in retail, seeing the customer get told to shove it is the highest point of your day, whether it's justified or not.

I've been in enough of retail... some bogus customers do need to be set straight... but if u find the highest point of ur day = telling a legit customer to fcuk off, u've got serious issues + need to change career...

Retail is not a career.

For some people it is.

Did anyone else get this line about how "it's not from a bestbuy website" ?
"well I got it from bestbuy.com....."
"no you didn't, you got it from images.bestbuy.com"
"....right, and that ends in bestbuy.com -- which means it's part of bestbuy.com"
"no, you see, images.bestbuy.com is owned by someone else"
"*blink*"
"No really, here's a printout to prove it: ping bestbuy.com
64.someiphere
ping images.bestbuy.com
lookup: akami.gm.something.net
12.someOTHERiphere."
me: "ummm.... ok. So who did bestbuy sell images.bestbuy.com to?"
"we don't actually know who owns it"
"right"
to satisfy my own curiosity (I was pretty sure beforehand), i checked, and EVERY image from bestbuy.com is hosted at images.bestbuy.com. so yeah... he's pretty much an idiot. People in Champaign, IL are dumb -- it's a proven fact.
