I am satesfied I have got 10 Kingston notebook sticks, and I got my friends hooked up with a stick each after I showed them how to argue with managers and that's enough , the managers in the two stores have called their moms on me and I have to run. 😉

2 bb's within an hr each from here both refused the coupon. One said they were instructed by corp not to take the coupon and that its only valid with a computer purchase. The other bb the manager at first said thats the first he heard of this coupon. Proceded to try to find it on bb website but couldn't. He acted as if it was a fake. I don't remember if it was him or the geek guy, saying that it must be used with a new computer purchase. I told both bb's that no where on the coupon states that. They wouldn't budge. I told one bb if I were to contact corp and if they were to ok it, then would he let me use it. He said nope. He pretty much said its his store and corp has no auth to make a store or manager accept a coupon like this.

I had enough of that. I called corp, explained the situation and asked whats going on with stores not taking this. At first the rep also said it has to be used with the purchase of a new computer, but I said no where on here does it say that. Can't remember what else was said but the rep dropped the (must be used with purchase of a new computer) line. I was then told to goto the store and try again and if denied then call corp while i'm there (so I supposely was going to be allowed to use it). Remember the bb's aren't really local and I highly doubt they would give in after what I was originally told. I asked if the rep can contact the store manager at one of the bb's about this and that I would stay on the phone. This way it would be setup before I went there.

After waiting for a while, the rep came back and said the store manager is refusing to take the coupon still. I told the rep "see" thats exactly what I was put threw. The rep asked me how much the coupon was for, I said $90. Yup, you guess it, the rep was having a $90 gift card sent out. The rep handled this matter pretty good. I'm satisfied that I got in on this deal at least once before it ends. That is IF I actually receive the gift card.

I was able to recieve two 512MB DDR 2700 sodimms and a nice laptop backpack for a total of $10.49. Pretty nice deal if you ask me! This is at the Chesterfield VA BB.

I went in yesterday and tried to buy two sticks of ram + installation at the Geek counter. The Geek told me that he would not sell me the installation unless I had the laptop with me. I should point out that he was not rude, he simply said that because of liability he did not want to sell the installation + ram without having a Geek perform the installation. At this point he still has not seen the coupon.

So I zipped home and grabbed the laptop the laptop. The Geek promised to save the ram and I filled out an installation order before I left. When I came back I turned my lappy in and then we proceded to the checkout at the Geek counter (same Geek). He rang me up for two sticks of ram + installation. That came to $150 somthing.

So then I hand over the coupon and he looks at it like "what the hack is this thing." He then rings it up and it subtracts the installation + one ram. He than got a strange look on his face that seemed to say "Holy Crap! How did that happen?" So he walks over to two other Geeks and shows them the coupon and they chat briefly. When he comes back he seems 'ok' with it, but still a little shocked.

All the while I was thinking, "Well, I guess $50 isnt bad for a gig upgrade." I hand him my card and then just before he slides it I said "Wait, what if I just want to get one stick?" To which he replies "So you just want one?" After he takes the second stick of ram of the register zero's out. He prints up the reciept and I left.

I went back today to pick up the other stick of ram and my laptop, but I did not want to have them install it this time. So, I grabbed the ram and went to the regular check out. The clerk rung it up and then I handed her a coupon with the SKU of the $30 installation on it. She looks at it and then says that she wants to check on it with a manager. She walks away and peeks her head into the mngrs office and then comes back and finishes ringing me up. It zeroed out of course. She mentioned that she was very surprised that it was zero. I told her that I spoke to the corporate twice to confirm that this was indeed a real and valid coupon and I smiled and went over to the Geek counter to pick up my lappy.

Once at the Geek counter I realized that I did not bring a backpack for my lappy (I drove there on my motorcycle). So I grabbed a $29.99 laptop backpack and went back to the same lady with a smile on my face. She told me I could not use the same coupon twice, to which I replied that this was not the same coupon, reminding her that the other one had the SKU written in blue pen at the top of the paper. She rang me up for the backpack, $10.49, and then I walked back over to the Geek counter and picked up my lappy.

I guess I should mention that I was prepared to do battle. I had a 3x5 card with Case# 19986217, and before each time I went into BB I made a call to 1-888-BEST-BUY to confirm that this was indeed a valid coupon.

I know it's kindof a long a boring story, but I thought it might help some of you out. When I called corporate both times I was very honest with them on the phone. I simply told them that I had copies of a coupon that has been circulating on the internet that I understand has been very controversial and that I would like confirmation from them that it is indeed valid. Both corporate representatives I spoke to were very pleasant and both of them confirmed that I can use this coupon for what is printed on it and that it should be honored. Both of them knew exactly what I was talking about. The first guy was very nice and told me that there has been alot of discussion about the coupon at corporate regarding whether or not customers must buy a laptop to validate the coupon. He said that the decision was made to honor the coupon as it is written until the date of validity printed on the coupon.

Anyways, thats my story. I'm done and certainly have no reason to get any more ram, best of luck to the rest of you.

That's a good Idea I have customised a hard samsonite suitcase for my Thinkpad, and a soft laptop bag for use here and that in't bad for 10 bucs, I am going back I guess.

I am for getting your rank promoted to Senior Member if not more you have earned it Mr slickdealer , now who is with me ? 😎

Oh does anyone need an external 120gig hard drive? Bestbuy has a sale going on. its a 100 maxtor with bonus 20gigs for $78. If you purchase the adaptec Firewire/USB 2.0 enclosure kit with it for $79. You get an instant coupon for $80. So you get the enclosure free. After pruchasing it walk to your car put the stuff in your car. Then come back in with the coupon and say "Oops I forgot my coupon" They will give you $20 off the h/d

So 120gig maxtor hd with external firewire/usb2.0 enclosue for $58 plus tax. Dont try to use the coupon at time of purchase. It will viod the free enclosure kit. Just goto the Customer service desk after purchase.

Better deal if you can find it. Office depot has the Maxtor personal Storage 3100 on clearance for $49.01. Its basically an external 80gig maxtor hard drive. But they will pricematch the BestBuy $20 off h/d coupon.

So 80gig maxtor external h/d for $29.01 plus tax. Like I said this one is harder to find. Cause the item is on clearance.

Anyone that was able to actually get in on this deal care to help me out? All the BB's I've gone to are out of stock on the 512MB laptop SODIMMs and I don't have the time to drive an hour plus to a couple other locations. Shoot me a PM if you can help out. Thanks all. 🙂

I tried to use the coupon at my local Best Buy, and the manager wouldn't honor the coupon, and when I asked him to call Best Buy office to see if the coupon was valid he threatened to call the police on me for trespassing. I called Best Buy customer service and they said they would tell him it was valid and they were going to honor it, customer service then tells me the manager said I was using an altered coupon. The Best Buy managers at my local store are a**holes, and liars.

I really hate that store, worst rudest managers out of any store I've ever been in.

I have an old thinkpad that uses PC66, but I found some pretty cheap on pricewatch.com, 128 MB sticks for $20 shipped, same for PC100 at coast to coast memory, so its lifetime good products. This stuff is gettin old, buy it while you can is my view.

This BB coupon is stealing with a suit on, the abuse has been rampant, and I can't see how it can be good for anybody in the long term. I just find it distastefull.

Just got off the phone with "Irma" At 888BestBuy (Irma? Erma?)

Anyway - Reference case #20265239 if you need to, call placed 9/8/05 @ 5:40pm EDT

Recap of the case:
Limit 1 coupon per customer, only usable on 1 purchase (ie: 1 stick of memory)
Combinable with all other offers on the coupon
Discount is on memory purchase AND installation, and will deduct from the price of BOTH
Must purchase installation with the memory in order to receive the discount
Does NOT require the purchase of a notebook/computer (you can bring your own in)

The only thing I didn't ask is if this will work on sale items. 🙂

Have fun! (I'm swinging by BeastBuy tonight on the way home)

The Geek workers at the Kennewick, WA store were all nice. Unfortunatelly they were out of the on sale PC RAM and the $29 notebook cases. When the saleperson tried to ring up the total the coupon only took off the price of the installation.

The Lead Geek was a real prick. I never did see the manager who was 'in the back', probabally watching me on CCTV hoping that I would get tired and leave. The Lead Geek threw every excuse in the book at me:

"Must purchase a new computer" Dosen't say that on the coupon.
"We don't give things away for free" Sure you do. I see FREE after instant savings and rebate in your ads all the time.
"BestBuy removed the coupon from their site this morning" Here is the URL go look it up.
"Not valid on sale items" Look, it says ANY memory.
"Were a local store and we reserve the right refuse any coupon." Call 1800BESTBUY I want to hear that from them.
"Well, your just trying to get a bunch of stuff for free" Do I need to call corporate again?
"Fine I'll give it to you if you have your computer here for the install" The look of defeat on his face alone was almost worth the wait.

After 90 minutes I got the 1 coupon per customer limit. I may go back on Saturday to get one for my PC and the notebook case.

Dude arguing with these a$$holes is the ultimate joy for me , in the time span of 3 days I argued with about 10-15 BB employees ( MOD, D!CK SQUASH) and I have defeated every one of them and saw them scratchin their heads everytime I walked away with 3 or 3+ memory sticks and $ 0 paid.
I AM THE BB RAPIST, NOW WHO IS NEXT YOU MOD SON OF A B!TCH ?!!!!

MOD short for : Mockary Of the Decade LOL

I wish I can have the deal also...right now my laptop is in for repair ( covered by a warranty 😉 )

They didnt make me bring in my laptop, just gave me the ram. I have two, and Im just gonna sell them. PM0ff3r :-D

I work at Best Buy.

This is actually not a valid coupon, and we are not honoring it in my store. Reason would be this - The coupon was originally an online printable coupon (sent via e-mail to select customers in select markets) with the explicit statement that a computer bundle or notebook must be purchased alongside it, as well as Geek Squad install services must be purchased with it. This text is mysteriously missing from the largely circulated version...word around the campfire is that it was digitally altered and web-spread before the corporate office caught on to what was going on, but the official line I'm hearing is that it was a misprint or something, never meant for public distribution.

Anyway, it's null and more and more Best Buys should be refusing to honor it.

This is what I have been told anyway. I am not sure how accurate or inaccurate it is.

Before you all get up in arms, I do have a few things to say. Firstly, I don't know why everyone is so hot to screw Best Buy over, or what this grudge is against them, but they are not a bad company. They treat their employees really well (at least at my store) and offer a lot of nice perks and incentives simply for doing your job well....I mean perks people care about, not an "Employee of the Month" certificate. They cut checks, they give gift cards, they hook you up with gift certificates. Stuff you want.

Secondly, don't be surprised if they refuse to honor this (bogus) coupon or are against giving you stuff for free. They are a business. They are in business to make money. Giving away merchandise does not lend itself to that end. Those of you surprised at this fact need to go get re-educated on free market capitalism. I really don't see the qualm you all have with actually paying for merchandise. Most of you are gainfully employed, yes?

Anyway, that's the "inside scoop", so have at.

I called the Best buy 1800# and asked them if it was valid and what thr requirements were. They told me I did not have to purchase a computer and it could be used on sale items. I even gave them the coupon code, if it was digitaly altered them why was I told that? Shouldnt they have told me if I had to buy a PC?

Beats me man. I'm just passing along what my managers told me tonight at work. I actually had a guy call in about this coupon, told him what my manager told me, then let the manager explain it to him. I didn't feel like dealing with it. I'm just a bottom of the food chain sales rep keeping the bills paid while I'm in school. Let corporate office figure it out.

Honestly, so long as my paychecks clear, I don't care if they honor it or not.
