oh no wait, i should plan to leave 10mins earlier so they dont have to get off the road...designed for cars. my bad.
Who really makes you late, the bikes or the other cars?

whoever is holding up traffic. slow drivers are just as bad, imo. but its a 5:1 ratio of cyclist that wont get over for 10secs to relieve the build up of cars behind them. last week i was late 2 times because the same guy wouldnt even move over to the edge of the road and let cars pass.

actual driving time to work is 10mins. i give myself 25 to account for traffic, and usually im 5-10 mins early.
Mmmhmmmm.

And how often do you wait through more than one cycle of a light simply because of the sheer volume of cars?

I ride to work because I can get there faster than I can by car thanks to gridlock.

I don't give a sh!t if you're late for work. That's your fvcking problem not mine. Fact is, I have every right to ride on the same road as you do. Don't like it? Too bad.

Besides, I can't remember the last time I held anyone in a car up. We have dedicated bike lanes on most roads around here though. Still, there is no shortage of ignorant fvckwads in cars/trucks/SUVs clogging up the roads around there.

then you give as much sh!t as i do to your right to be on a road.....for cars. you love cycling so much, find a bike trail for your hobby.

nice attitude. its only the people in cars that are assholes right? never the cyclist.

never. thats why i take the back roads, to avoid the traffic. 30 secs max at the 3 stop signs combined.

edit: check that. more than 30. 90, maybe on heavy days, less than a minute normally.

No, cyclists are perfectly capable of being assholes, but a lot of the problem is that most DOTs don't bother with things like bike lanes that would make everyone happy.

People in cars can generally go eat a dick for all I care, but I definitely don't try to piss them off or intentionally get in the way. All I want to do is ride and be left alone.

That said, I am NOT going to go seek out some dinky park for my training just so you don't get your blood pressure up. I do 90% of my riding on country roads. If you can't take a second to get around me out in BFE, then you are in fact the asshole.

Maybe if you weren't so accusatory to begin with on your first post in this thread Jules wouldn't have posted that back. In reality, you probably get held up more by cars than bikes, yet you are probably an impatient jerk like the rest of the Road Rage Drivers who feel it is easier to pick on a biker on the road than another 3 ton car.

People have no concern for cyclists or runners for that matter. I know this from experience. It's good you filed a report.

Just for the record: my commute is a couple miles longer than it really has to be specifically so I can stay off the busy/narrow roads. I really don't go out of my way to piss people off.

No. Starbucks is an evil multinational corporation. For true cred, you need to patronize local independent coffee shops. If I saw you riding with a Starbucks coffee I would sneer at you. ;)

Of course they are.

roll.

9 out of 10 folks think starbucks is great but you think its evil because its cool to buck the establishment

Keep trying to be different just like everyone else.

I was only posting in humor. BUT, since you decided to get all defensive, here goes:

Are you saying even though I believe Coffee People has better tasting coffee and is less expensive and has better service, I should go to starbucks because "9 out of 10" think it's great?

Well then, assuming the cyclist has room to move over, I'm sorry. Perhaps he's being a dick, perhaps there just isn't a shoulder or bike lane, I dunno.

Either way, do you want the bike on the main roads or the back roads?

Now if they request a mooning, I will of couse comply.

Cheers all. :beer::D

Hey, you're the one bitching because we supposedly "make you late." You want sympathy? You've come to the wrong place.

Look, I've already said that I don't hold people up when I ride but I do expect a little common courtesy and regard for my safety from the people I share the road with. Oh, and I don't know if this has been stated enough but...IT'S THE LAW!!!

That is all.

although you did have the right of way there, I agree with the driver's lack of patience. If you're going to be on the road for 10 seconds, I can wait. But I'm not going to follow your 15-20mph ass any longer than that. Drivers here have never been accustomed to doing that and I wouldn't want to be.

Don't cyclists feel they're holding people up ? I mean I know I'd feel that way as a cyclist even if it were "allowed".

He was rushing to a bus stop  You work it out.

In teh UK, I have the right of way as a Vehicle. If you don't like it, the resolution is NOT to intimidate a fellow road user off the road with a seven ton Vehicle.

You can moan about it all you want, but the case has been taken up by the Police, so I am inherently in the right.
nowhere did I disagree with your actions. All I said was basically "if it happened here..."

And that leads to this question: what would you do if you were here in the states ?

Cars ARE traffic. I get "held-up" by car traffic while on the bike far more than the other way around. You don't see me asking the drivers to get off the road.
You being in and around NYC has to do with it. I'm talking about in general... if there's a passageway that allows only 1 vehicle through and you're the slower cyclist leading the pack... what is your feeling...

1) they can wait on my ass
2) *sigh* I'm retarding all the cars behind me right now

What would go through your mind / is there any guilt... is all I'm asking.

All of this bitching, reporting, evil stories of evil driving deeds, etc. are the reasons I stopped riding my bike on roads. I just can't take the stupidity and lack of consideration from people in cars, and it's not worth my life to ride my bike. Fortunately, here in Orlando, there are tons of great bike paths so I'm pretty set.

What's crazy is I don't feel a whole lot safer in my actual truck, driving down the same roads. On my way to and from work, I see so many "near misses" and things that should get people arrested for. It's complete insanity on our roads and it's only getting worse.

I would have loved to hear that conversation with your boss.

Whiner: Sorry I was late twice. There was this guy on a bike, and I had to slow down, like, a lot.

Whisersboss: Leave earlier.

Whiner: But you don't understand! It wasn't my fault! He should have stopped and gotten off his bike every time a car passed. It was SO inconsiderate!

Whinersboss: Leave earlier.

Whiner: I can't believe you are making me take responsibility for my own actions!! This is an outrage!!

If I were holding people up for a relatively short distance they could eat a dick as far as I'm concerned. If, and this has NEVER happened in the many years I've been riding, I were holding up a group of cars and it looked like it would be a while before I could move over enough for them to pass I would probably stop to let them by.

I don't think I'd ride on the roads in FL either. Man, between all the old people and the lack of a shoulder on many roads it would be tough.

*shrugs* I walk faster than most people I suppose. You're probably right...but without a backpack, I usually half the times posted for trails, and I can keep up a pace of about 6 mph on a flat road.
Call it BS if you want, but I timed a short 5-mile hike to get that figure.
I'm calling BS then. When I hit the treadmill in the gym I usually set it around 6 mph for 4.5 to 6 miles. At that speed I have no choice but to jog. You must have an extremely long stride, or you were trail running. In terms of walking, I max out at about 4.5 mph.

I have an extremely long stride, AND I step very quickly. My whole family on the male side is that way...my grandma used to say that she wanted to put on roller skates and tie a rope to my grandpa to keep up, even when he was in his 90s.
