I watched this scenario unfold 2 years ago at a local Nissan dealership. A guy was willing to buy it, but the dealership said they had someone else who was willing to pay 10k over MSRP.

It's sad and absolute bullshit. Greed is rampant these days. This whole scenario has me questioning if i should even waste this much money on a Nissan.

if you think it's just a Nissan problem, you are utterly mistaken. What about limited edition Ferraris or Lamborghinis or Porsches that sell out before they're even announced? you think people are paying MSRP for those?

As deposit shows you are just serious enough to get the test drive and time.

Intent to purchase locks the car in for you.

Many people have had deposits on cars only to have them sold out from under them, esp when it goes a week+.

You get your deposit back.
 
Wonder if Nissan would like to know about this, I didn't think they allowed dealers to mark up over MSRP on the GT-R?

Pretty sure Nissan explicitly stated they don't want this kind of thing going on with the GT-R, to include dealer markup over MSRP and people buying them up with the sole purpose of marking up and reselling, like on Ebay, where the warranty is voided if sold to a second owner in a year or something like that, etc

Nissan is on record with their stance for the GT-R being a relative bargain and doing whatever takes to ensure it stays that way and that they end up in the hands of people who want it to keep and drive.

I think you'll be hard pressed to find any dealership willing to let you go on a drive without signing papers first. It's a chicken and egg thing, personally I would NEVER buy any car that I couldn't drive first and that's why I'll probably never own an exotic or near exotic.
 
That probably depends. I'm sure that's definitely the case with cars that sell out right away like the new GT-R. If it's just sitting on the lot though, they'd probably let you test drive it if they thought you were serious.
 
The situation has been resolved guys and the car is once again mine. 🙂 I'm going to sign the papers tomorrow

Been in contact with a Nissan rep over at the NA GT-R forums throughout the day, gave him all the info about the dealership, what was going on, negotiated price, every detail we've gone over. About an hour ago i spoke with the dealership's owner who apologized and said there was a misunderstanding and the car is mine if i still want it. Not sure what the Nissan rep said or threatened to do but everything is back on schedule.
