Except the iPhone 4 you mean.8 hours continuous use, no other smart phone is even in the same ball park.
Thats still really crappy compared to a lot of dumb phones.

Except even Apple don't claim 8 hours. How are you getting that number?
- Talk time:Up to 7 hours on 3GUp to 14 hours on 2G
- Standby time: Up to 300 hours
- Internet use:Up to 6 hours on 3GUp to 10 hours on Wi-Fi
- Video playback: Up to 10 hours
- Audio playback: Up to 40 hours

And outselling ever single other smartphone by a huge margin.
pretty sure Bose outsells B&W, but it sure as shit doesn't mean they make a better product.
speaking of sales numbers what are the numbers for 1st time buyers for the iphone 4. because those are the only real important ones, sheep continuing to be sheep don't matter. new converts do
I know most people don't talk like me but back before unlimited days I had $650 mo AT&T bills!! Over 10,000 min a month. I was a home builder talking to dozens of subs, employees and suppliers a day, not to mention personal. I have another business today which is similar chatting (thank god for unltd) - so while battery life may not be as important to y'all - I need all day battery life. Only one smart phone provides that - which is why iphone 4 is my first real smart phone.
You mean you actually TALK on your phone?
What a strange little world we live in.
Thats still really crappy compared to a lot of dumb phones.
Apple had more guts than I thought they would have. They basically came out and said, "This is some bullshit the media has exaggerated because everyone loves a little schadenfreude. We're not going to be dicks about it, so here's a free case. If that's not good enough, return the phone. Nobody is going to though."
Let's see if iPhones are returned in droves or if sales plummet. At the end of the day this is a story overblown by nerd rage. If the Xbox survived RRoD (where every unit made from 2005 - 2007 eventually crapped out) I think Apple is not going to have a problem with a few people in areas of bad reception holding it the wrong way.
Fantards were desperately wishing for the Achilles' heel of the iPhone juggernaut. This wasn't it, sorry guys.

Exactly, seven hours talk time. I understood Zebo was quoting 8 hours of 3G talk time. I may be wrong.
No.
That is overblown nerd rage. Never even seen an RRoD and I have the original.
Your strawman argument officially makes you an Apple hater.
Comparing a smartphone battery life to that of a normal phone? Weak. Seriously seriously weak.

I just got this in email today from IEEE, an interesting listen from an unbiased source.
iPhone Antenna Podcast (14:10 runtime).

Summary:
Antenna expert tests iPhone in real world scenario (no anechoic chambers).
Tested using data rates in an open field.
Performance drop when held a certain way.
Tried using a second phone as a "control" unit to monitor network speed (in case of network slow downs), however they determined throttling would occur randomly.
It would be nice to see these guys test other phones in the same scenario (besides just the earlier iPhone) to see how the iPhone 4 holds up relative to the rest of the industry.
