So, to sum it up, the posters in this thread that are quite concerned about the antenna problem:

1.) Don't own iPhones
2.) Don't intend to purchase iPhones
3.) Have never seen a smart phone that has an attenuation problem in meatspace, despite the videos on YouTube and Apple's website.
4.) Are unhappy with Apple's solutions of no questions asked full refunds.
5.) Are unhappy with Apple giving out free cases or a refund for previously purchased bumper cases to everyone that's bought an iPhone 4, no questions asked.

I guess I'd like to know what you want?

Sad that you don't see the fundamental design flaw that everyone else sees. As the poster above me says, there's a reason others aren't doing this design.

Personally this antenna issue means shit. My last iPhone barely saw the light of day as it has always been my objective to protect expensive electronics. A naked iPhone IMO is just asking for cracks/scratches which would really tick me off. Buy a case or get one for free from Apple is what I think people should do. You won't have any antenna problems at your home and your expensive hardware holds its value due to being in a better condition. I realize some people won't do that and thats their prerogative. Buy and protect or don't buy and STFU.

LOL...

So you've run out of ammo and attack me?

Do you guys even read what you post or realize this isn't OT?

Here's something else to chew on, a lot of the folks in the media own Apple stock, it's one of the most widely held stocks in the US, when they report on this kind of stuff they drive down the value of their investments.

I suspect you'll see less articles that are critical of Apple than more...

You have been completely refuted. Period. The design flaw has been demonstrated by consumer reports, engadget, and anandtech. And yet you continue to argue, claiming that there is some WORLD WIDE MEDIA CONSPIRACY to attack apple. You are impervious to logic. We're only positing the most likely explanation as to why.

Hell, you're the one who posted about Apple's financials. Considering that you have not addressed the actual design flaw, changing the subject repeatedly, bringing up non-sequiters, and finally bringing up the "yeah, well they make a bunch of money!!!!!" That, and the fact that you own apple stock leads one to the natural conclusion that you're more focused on apple's bottom line than the actual topic of this thread.

As for "the media" owning apple stock, a key issue in journalistic ethics in the business or tech field is not owning stock in companies that you cover. Engadget has a strict policy that no editors can own apple.

Once again, what exactly do you want from Apple?

Seriously...

Something they won't give us: admittance that they chose form over function.

LOL, some things are so obvious they don't need to be spelled out in black and white.

Apple has always done that, it's fucking Apple for Christ's sake... It's like saying you're pissed off at the sun for producing visible light...

The people that buy Apple products sure as hell know it, that's one of the big reasons they buy Apple products.

I'm not talking to apple, I'm talking to you. You're the one trotting out really annoying logical fallacies in order to justify an obvious mistake.

What I find interesting about this affair is how a design that many, many engineers outside apple new was flawed made it into the final project. I find it interesting for the same reason I find the Kin debacle from Microsoft interesting. How do smart, competent people make boneheaded decisions? How can companies avoid making these decisions? How do you spot a company that will make more boneheaded decisions in the future?

I suspect that with this mistake by Apple it's a mixture of hubris and top-down management, whereas Microsoft's was with their byzantine management structure and its turf wars.

Of course, we can't have a conversation about that when you deny established facts for whatever reason that you do.

I've asked you multiple times what you want from Apple, and all I get are personal attacks....

Seriously, what could Apple do to make you happy and whole?

An Android OS'd iPhone?

Kill Steve Jobs?

A recall?

John Ive forced to resign?

I get a reference to the Kin? Weaksauce dude...

Different strokes for different folks.
Personally, I never put on any type of case/screen protector on any of my device. So forcing people to put on a sleeve to fix the antenna problem is just ridiculous.

Cheap skakes like you may buy and coat it 3-4 layers, but money is not a problem for me and if it breaks, I'd just buy another one.

Apple should offer either a free phone sleeve or a recall for those who wants the antenna issues fixed internally.

For me, why not admit it was a mistake? A flawed design? Their presentation and claim that the iPhone 4's flaw is inherited by all smartphones was misleading. Its a fact that all phones, when held a certain way loses some signal, but the Iphone 4's problem is that when held in a certain area loses complete signal. The solution to their problem is to use a bumper. Is that true for the Bold or Samsung phones they used as examples yesterday? NO

If Apple really thought there wasnt a problem, why are they offering free bumpers? Is it out of some act of generosity? I think not.

there’s an awful lot of hoopla
around the iphone 4 anttenna
when you grip it with the death grip
and you’re call slips away
the media loves a failure
in a string of success
the facts won’t ever matter
if they can make bigger messes
sure i can make it happen
but in terms of daily usage
i’ve yet to drop a call
so this whole damn thing is stupid
and you can call me a fanboy
i’ve been called worse things
but gizmodo just ridiculous
pulling their anti-apple strings
you bought a stolen prototype
get over it and move on
or hey even better
let’s all sing this song

I love that song....

Iphone is the perfect remedy for that problem.

Then you need to get a decent dumb phone, all smartphones have crappy battery life.

You aren't forced. You can take your phone back if you aren't satisfied. This is nothing new. The usual 30 days applies and if you can't figure out if its going to work for you by then, there's only one person to blame.

Cheap skakes like you may buy and coat it 3-4 layers, but money is not a problem for me and if it breaks, I'd just buy another one.

It depends on your perspective on which I would be. A "cheap skate" or just someone who "protects their investment".

Apple should offer either a free phone sleeve or a recall for those who wants the antenna issues fixed internally.

Cases are offered but a recall is out of the question. The costs are way too high and much easier to just add a case.

The best thing Apple/Jobs said during the press conference was, your able to get a full refund if you want to return it. That's the final cure, if you're really not happy with the product, you have an OUT.

What I took away from the press conference is that Apple believes the iPhone 4 antenna is better than the previous iPhone antennas, but it has a more sensitive “weak spot”. And, that more sensitive weak spot is inherent to the external antenna design. In short, that it’s a trade-off — better signal quality overall, better aesthetics, more structural rigidity, even better battery life because there’s room for a bigger battery without an internal antenna. The trade-off is that all of those benefits come at the expense of a more sensitive “weak spot”. (I put that in quotes because it’s Jobs’s term for the infamous lower-left gap in the antenna frame.)

basically what we already knew, but Apple just spelled it out more clearly during their press conference.

The Apple haters here will not be satisfied with anything less than Apple declaring bankruptcy or coming out and saying "errr, Android is the best thing ever!"
