Way to go. Very insightful for those who are easily swayed by "technology" and "sophisticated" buzzwords so they can see that under that fancy DOHC VTEC++VVTI+XYZABC123 emblazoned cover it's still just a primitive bucket of nuts and bolts and rubber hoses and bicycle chains covered in grease and carbon :)

Once you take the heads off, it's all the same: oil pump, crank, some pistons here and there... :)

I got the first box of parts yesterday and one more should be arriving today, so I'll snap a bunch of pics of building the new block back up.

And a turbo rotary, with pistons and headers and all that right?

My friend just picked up a '04 s4, silver on black - Its a really nice car. I'm so jealous, I wanna sell my b5 a4 and get one. Do they all come with Recaros?

The convertibles actually didn't get recaros, I'm guessing because they don't make a seat that folds forward.

Not bad. How much did you pay for the car again? I'm just totting up the total outlay and expecting you're getting a great deal out of it.

They decked them to clean out the damage and the rest of it is just cosmetic. The important thing was to get the surface flat; banged up spots only matter if the piston comes to contact with them.

I figure #8 will have slightly less compression due to the smaller volume of those flat spot, but it should be within the 15psi spec. We'll see...otherwise I'll have to spend extra 100 bucks on new head gasker/bolts and have it welded.

yeah my thoughts were about compression being lower in the chambers that were chewed up a bit due to there being more space for air to fill. I suppose it wouldn't be the end of the world though. What are the chances of some off the "corroded" metal breaking loose and causing mayhem in the cylinder bore?
