Nice!

I'm curious, all the time and money you have into this project, was it worth it? I haven't checked up on this thread in a while so forgive me if you've already answered this question. I'm just curious how much you have into it vs the cost of buying a similar "new-to-you" S4 in good running condition.

I'm sure the satisfaction of having done the work yourself is well worth it to you personally.

KBB lists an 04 S4 with 100K at $14-$15K, he said he has $11K into it. As for what his time is worth...that's his decision. Of course that price includes an engine with 100K and his rebuilt should be good for a long time.

Put on some 500 miles on the car with no issues. AC is back from dead after getting it vac'd and refilled. I am getting pretty crap gas milage, gonna have to grab a new fuel filter and k&n intake.

Pictars after washing and what not; decided to keep the wheels of the A6.

Me want.

I really really like S4s but the maint requirements always scared me away.

So Halik, how is the S4 treating you? What is the city mpg like? How is the power? Would you recommend one?

i HATE the CV joints. if you don't have a lift they are a bitch to get in.

and they have some funky screw style - i can't remember whether it was 6 or 12-point stars.

when i swapped in new axles on my passat my brother told me the CV joint bolts are called the "six bitches of VW" because without a lift, they are incredibly difficult to remove.

You know, I thought changing these would be really bad but after doing both of them on my Passat in under 2 hours it wasn't that bad.

Didn't have a lift either.

Haha, I didn't think it was that impressive but thanks. I was expecting a horrific endeavor but only grunted and grumbled some. Hoping that since I used raxles I won't have to touch them ever again (I'll have moved on to something else by then). I'd love to get something newer like you've done but I just got a fun car (S2K) so I should keep piling the miles on this one.

Put like 7.5K miles/ 3 oil changes since the rebuilt. I've got 90% of all the bugs taken care of - new PCV valve fixed the lean fuel trims and I've replaced just about everything else in the process of figuring that out.

City mileage is bad, ball park 14-18mpg. On summer blend gas, I get around 22mpg highway at 75mph.

Car has loads of torque - you can take off in second gear and it will roll in first with essentially no throttle input. Love the Recaros as well.

I honestly cannot recommend a used one to anyone without bulletproof warranty - the alusil blocks score relatively easily when you do the 10K mile oil changed per audi and the cars tend to burn out when broken in improperly. If you can find one with a busted motor and swap a new one in (~3K for a long block) with all new timing stuff, it would make sense.
