Even with this thing, the parts are pretty fucking expensive and so far there hasn't been too many people that wrapped these S4s around trees. The big round thing in the second picture (top left) is $486... still trying to source something more reasonable.

Cam phaser?

Love the look of the engine. I'm surprised they fit all that under that hood! Pretty cool stuff.

You used an actual proper engine hoist and not your arms. You sir are not a man.

this remended me of the time I used a forklift to pull a motor. We were all like who need an engine lift... The next time I pull a motor out of that car I deadlifted the longblock out(I4 iron block), that was not so much fun.

Halik, I'm about 80 minutes North of columbus.

If you need any help with anything, just let me know and I can run down there for a day and give you a hand.

Maybe an LS3 or LS7, an LS1 wouldn't be a very big upgrade. Plus that 4.2l sounds glorious.

I was thinking more in terms of cost. LS1 and tranny can be found for less than 3k.

LS2,3,7 are nearly double and triple that.

If I lived anywhere close I'd offer as well. I'd love to get a chance to work on that 4.2L.

Would be pretty sweet. I wonder if there would be a weight savings without all the DOHC hardware. I imagine the electronics would be a pain and more than likely the loss of AWD.

Thanks for the offer, so far it's been smooth sailing doing it solo (5-6 year old car, not whole lot of seized bolts and crap like that). I'll hit you up if i end up needing assistance.

Awesome...I'm really impressed with the work you're doing. Are you keeping a tally of how much money you're putting into the car?

I've got a spreadsheet with a budget for the car.

Expected total is $1,607.96 - $1,678.16 depending on some parts i may or may not need to get it.

Turns out the clutch is essentially brand new, the disc still had the lettering painted on the disc, so that saved me some 200 bucks.

Here be the heads :
http://www.imploding.com/home/s4-stuff/s4-heads

The motor ingested some metal it seems like and #8 piston has actually some chipping. Heads look fixable, gonna have to take them to a machine shop and get them skimmed.

Also I've killed 2 t30 torx bits with my harbor freight impact wrench.

You carried it in by yourself? Geez. I think I would have gotten some help or a dolly or something.

Do you have an engine stand to rebuild the motor on?

Yeah, it was just the shortblock with pistons and crank, didn't wanna take it apart.

No engine stand, sadly they don't make stand for this thing from what I can tell. Gonna have to put it on a furniture dolly?
