i am doing this site for someone for a couple grand, but for something what u did a few hundred at most.
What browsers do you try to make sites compatible with? I noticed your navigation and images don't work in NS 4.0. Does anyone still use 4.0 browsers? BTW, I know the drop down menu on my site doesn't work in 4.0 or Opera either, but I am going to forward older browsers to another site.

mozilla and IE 5.5 or later.

no sense in deisgning for NS4 since is it such a extreme minority in usage.
Hmm, that should make things easier. I didn't realize NS4 was so old. Should I make another page for Opera browsers though? I still am confused as to why people use that browser ..

if you follow the standards, it should work has well in opera, mozilla, nS6, and IE.

Do u even use CSS style sheets?

opera 7 is great I would support it (and do).

Don't make a seperate page, that's just braindead. Make your page compatible.

I've actually designed pages that use javascript to detect the browser and OS, and adjust a few small things accordingly to make it look better.

There was no way to avoid it?

Also, small, automated changes are one thing, but maintaining two totally different pages is another.

Because it's a nice browser, why do people buy different kinds of cars?

I have looked around and found NS4-compatible drop-down menus that don't even work on Opera. The script I use now is very small, but I suppose I could find one of those 60kb ones .. And it was compatible back to 3.0 with just CSS buttons on the left but they insisted on having adrop-down menu.

With Dreamweaver MX, you can use a thing called templates .. they make life really easy.

I tried everything I could think of 🙂 In the end, the only feasible way to do what i wanted was to use javascript.

Just create a site. Make a page then add editable regions to it where the content will be. Save it as a template. Then File > New and use the Templates tab to create the pages you want automatically updated.

depending

i do includes for the header and footer, but for elements i been doing functions.

Dreamweaver MX is king. The PHP-syntax recgonition, etc. is just awesome and "Sites" are also a very good thing to work with.

That's a job for a scripting language 🙂

If you want to compile and run every single requested page.

If some paltry include()s are bogging down your webserver, you could just have a script that creates a static page, which updates via cron or whatever.

How would that possibly be better than having dreamweaver do it when the files are updated?

Night Adul.

Well I just work with Includes for the Navigation and the body-text. The links are then normally index.php?content=otherfile.php, so I know which body-text I have to load. Pretty easy.
