No in reality it's probably a pretty damn nice house. Most of the uber rich really don't buy new either.

A CL600 or 55 would be right up there alley here with a few miles on it.

lol, sure they don't...sure they don't.

It's the renters and lower income that seem to pour all their funds into their cars and constantly buying new while selling the old one at a loss.

But yeah I am sure you get that a lot rolling around in a pretty old mustang now. Terminator or not, most folks look at old mustangs as low hanging fruit.

This is hilarious. So tell me, how do these lower income people seem to qualify for these $100,000+ car loans? lol

Fact is, the rich can buy used or new. The $30K a year millionaires are limited to buying these old ass wannabe ballin' cars. If your "rich" friends only buy used cars, then that is just their preference. However there are different types of rich people. You have the ones that drive OLD (and I mean really old) Ford pickup trucks like the Bass Brothers (Billionaires), while others members of the board drive up in their new Mercedes. And then you have the Donald Trump guys that drop MONSTER cash and don't have time to care about saving $100K on a car. They walk in a dealership and see what they want and drive off with it. Simple. I have a guy that lives in my area that drops by the Ford dealership to buy a new car pretty much every 6 months, including $60K Mustang Shelby Cobras. Oh yeah, and he pays cash for them. Mustangs not ballin' enough for you? Well he's owned a few Maybachs too. He just buys what HE likes, and doesn't try to pretend he's something he's not.

Again, there are different types of millionaires/billionaires and they spend their money differently. However, a "lower income" person can't just walk in and buy a $150K Mercedes. But they sure as hell can with a $20K Mercedes. Can a millionaire/billionaire buy that same $20K car? Yep. Some may, some may not. But again, no "lower income" person is going to be able to buying a new high end Mercedes. I'm sure they may LOVE to, but they just won't be able to get financed for it. Same with the other high end luxury cars like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche (high end), Rolls, Maybach. The difference is, a used Maybach will still be waaaay out of reach for the regular Joe. So guess who is buying used Maybachs? That's right, millionaires/billionaires. They buy new AND used. The difference with Mercedes is, once used they fall into the regular Joe's budget so the average guy can buy it, but the "rich" guy may be interested in the car too. That's where the wannabes like to sneak in.

Nothing too amazing but I'd try to aim closer to 10k then 20k, gets AWD and a turbo 4 cylinder for decent milage/power. I like there clean look, probably be treated alot better then any STi/EVO that someone had.

Hah yeah. The CL600 wasn't even that fast (for the price range for sure) 0-60 in 4.6-4.8 in most tests. Hell the new Mustang GT beats it, and it doesn't cost $130k new. I haven't driven one, but I've also gathered that they handle like crap for the most part.

Now the Mercedes SL Black Edition, that's more like it. Not available for $20k used yet though.

People don't buy those V12 MB for the 0-60 balls to the wall aspect.

The motor is super smooth, as is the rest of the car. The suspension is incredible.

The 0-60 does not feel violent like a Mustang, it just moves.

I would look for a used Acura NSX in that range. Awesome looking car. Looks like a supercar, though it does not have the power of a supercar.

Not a bad choice - replace the oil pickup before it breaks and kills the motor, though. Killer B makes one.

EVO IX for blown up goodness :D

Oh definitely, if only there was a bigger used market on these. It seems there is none for sale in Chicago, and if they are, they are all modded or have a bad history. On the other hand, the good ones are going for 25k + which is too much :(

Hard to say.. I'm not like most people on here, I think $5k buys a shitload of car.

I would probably go G35 as well though, I've always loved them, and they are certainly good cars.

Other considerations would be like a Legacy GT, maybe an STi. Always loved Altima SE-R's, but they would be less $ now.

I'm currently in the market for a used car for around 20k. I'm looking for something sporty, with good handling and power. I have considered many cars from G35s, Mustangs, to M3s. I can't make up my mind.

After doing some research and a few test drives, I'm now leaning towards a slightly used S2000, but I'm not 100% sure its the best choice. It needs to be a good daily driver, so I don't know if the S2K is a good choice considering that. (Snows in Chicago :( )

If you were in my shoes (meaning that your looking for sporty/power/good DD), what would you get? Also explain why.

Thanks.
What qualify as a Good DD? and when you said power, how come you're looking at s2000? that thing have no power to speak of and is terrible for daily driving because of the super stiff suspension, no storage for anything, easily vandalized.

I just bought a new car (2011 Civic Si Coupe) and my criteria was:
- Sporty
- 2 door, 4 door, hatchback doesn't matter
- Manual
- Good on gas
- Cheap & easy to maintain
- Reliable
- Room to haul groceries & luggage
- Superb build quality

I compared it to several cars and the Civic came out on top for me. Mazdaspeed 3, 2011 Mustang V6, Camaro, & Genesis Coupe. They were the cars within the price range I was looking for.

You really need to narrow down your requirement of the car.

If you're just looking for Sporty/Good Handling/Power, I'd say the 2011 Mustang V6 for $22k. It met all of your requirements, the S2k doesn't.

???

What makes any particular car more easily vandalized?
Rag top.

It take less than 2 seconds for some asshole to cut the ragtop and walk away. Yet it cost you thousands to replace and it's not something you can ignore and replace later such as someone keying your car...rain, snow, sleet, etc... get in the way when you don't have a roof.

I know people who have S2ks as DD. They don't complain that much. I don't have a family, I'm single, I don't really need practicality. S2k may not be as powerful as some of its competitors, but 240hp is enough for a car of that size. IMO, AP2 gets a 0-60 of 5.4 seconds, and in terms of balance and handling, its hard to beat. I doubt a V6 Mustang is faster, let alone better handling. Same thing can be said about your Civic.

Rag top.

You can purchase a hard top for the S2k.
