This deal might be dead now. Some people at another forum have said that sony does not honor rebates when used with other promotions. That means that if your reciept shows you getting that $20 off $75 coupon, you are not going to get the rebate. I do not know this for sure though, I am just going on what others said about their policy.

I just E-mailed you the OD 20$ and as long as you bought the drive by Sept.28th it's valid. BTW please read my first post, it explains how to find the drive@OD.com

Please read the first post in this thread as it explains that the new rebate will be 30$ from OD, the coupon is $15 off 50$ and how to find the drive@OD.com ;) BTW I don't think OD offering a 30$ rebate on this drive on the 6th would go over very well with the public if the drive was OOS ;) As to Sony not honoring the rebate, that's bullsh*t, plain and simple.

Thank you DAPUNISHER, for posting this great deal and for your help to everyone who wants to get in on this.

Is this item already on their Web site? I'm trying to search for it now to see what the price is, and it's showing the only CD-RW drive they have is a Sony 32x10x40 for $119.99. Searching by item number turns up nothing.

Just to clarify things for those that actually purchased the 40x12x48x drive by 09/28 or thereabouts, if you sent in both rebate forms (one to OD and the other to Sony) you should be receiving confirmation of the rebates via email from OD and Sony when the rebates are received at the other end. OD didn't actually email me but whichever company is handling the rebates for them did. And so did Sony. In each case the email that I received was automatically generated indicating two things: 1. The rebate form was received on time and 2. Whether or not they will honor the rebate based on whether or not you filled out the form properly and if you enclosed all required items (proof of purchase, bar code, yada, yada).

This FUD being spread on other forums about the use of the $20 off $75.00 nonsense is just that, FUD! As far as I can tell, I have rebate tracking numbers on both (this is new to me, I've never received confirmation via email nor have I received any tracking number for a stinking rebate!!). So I should be receiving my checks within 8-10 weeks, SOP as far as rebates go...

This is all new to me, so if this seems a little repetetive, please bear with some of your newer members here. My question is: If you buy online, will Sony/Office Depot accept the packing slip 'receipt' as a suitable form of sales receipt (as opposed to the actual sales receipt you would get if you bought it at the actual store)? I'm going to take advantage of this on Sunday, as long as they still have one in stock, hehe.

So, bottom line is, you'll be charged $74.99 ($89.99-15.00 instant coupon w/ free shipping) online, then you'll get the following rebate checks: $30.00 from Office Depot, as long as it was purchased between 10/6 - 10/12; and $20.00 from Sony.

Bottom line after all is said and done: $24.99 for a respectable CD-R.

Definately a Thumbs Up !!!!!

Thanks for your help in answering my questions about the rebate.

BostonRedSox,

I ordered online and did not get an invoice or receipt; I called and had a CSR fax me one and both OD and Sony accepted a copy of this fax without a problem...

You got it perfect, the shipping invoice will be your proof of purchase and Sony will get the original UPC and serial number from the box and OD will get a copy of the UPC, both get copies of the invoice. the price will be 24.99+tax when all is said and done shipped to your door :)

I just got my package from OD except it was the wrong model. I ordered the 40x model (CRX195A1) but they messed up and sent me the 48x model (CRX210A1). I would be happy but my receipt/invoice doesn't match the box so my rebates probably won't work. Anyone know how I can get around this?

Thanks for all the updates DAPUNISHER!

You're very welcome kilderkin :) Now to your problem, The Sony 20$ rebate is valid for your drive model so I would call Office Depot and explain the mix up and see if they will honor your 30$ OD rebate as well and if not if they will make arrangments for you to exchange the drive for the correct model at your local B&M OD to save you the shipping costs. I should think since they goofed that they will make it right with you one way or another. Keep us posted on your situation as I'm rooting for you getting the 48x for the same hot deal :D

how do you use the turbo boost on this cdrw. I wana burn at 48X!!!

Also, whats the bad thing about burning at 48X??

Why cant you just keep 48 as default if the drive is capable of doing this?
