used the B's Gold that came with it and burned a disc@40x lighting fast
I imagine that you also have Nero? (Don't we all?)
Let's see you burn at 40x in Nero.
I have 5.5.9.9 installed and sometimes I get 16x - sometimes 24x.

Have updated the firmware to the latest (ZYS5 I think is latest) still the same.
Changed firmware to Lite-on 48x and back to 40x. Still nothing above 24x.
I'm gonna change media and see if tha makes a diff. Although, Fuji is all TY AFAIK. :disgust:

PS Not a thread crap, but CrapUSA has a CDRW 40x12x48x for the same price, AR. (Can't see the model from the ad.)

how'd cdrlabs.com get it to work under nero at 40X then?
That's what I'm talkin' about! I only have OEM versions of Nero which work only with the drives they came with so I can't test it myself, perhaps someone else can post results using Nero.

Hey I meant to mention that in order for nero to correctly recognize and use the drive that you will probably have to uninstall and reinstall Nero. I find it damn difficult to believe a Sony product would have to use only proprietary burning software

My experience is that 99% of the time the problem is between the chair and the monitor ;)

OK Kiddies! I downloaded and installed nero as a trial and it burned@40x no problem and so you can all relax here is a screenshot Nero burn@40x on SonyCRX195E1 :D EDIT: it would have been less than the 3min1sec shown but I held it up for about 12secs by hitting print screen when it started ;) I can post that pic if you would like as well! Now stop whining about a nice drive at a good price which can be flashed to 48x ;):D

And how much experience is that? A year or two? ;)
Real facts follow, not clever comments, like it or not.
If you will notice the "Media Type" database from the CDRLabs
review stated that (in other words) Fuji media were at the top, i.e. nothing bested the Fuji although there were other 3.01 second times turned in for the stated 650 MB data write.
As I used Fuji media, purchased just last week at BB B&M, I assumed that this would not be a bottle-neck. I even used "Gold B's" sw to do a test spin and it looked like it would write the test data at 40x. However, as stated previously, the reported write speed under (a fresh install /w my s/n applied) Nero only produced 16x - 24x.
Still undaunted, I picked up some 40x TDK in my rounds today and contempler, 40x in Nero!:D

PS The 40x12x48x on sale at CompUSA with a similar AR deal is Samsung, FYI

but that's what he was saying (i think? :))
fuji has been relabeling their lower-speed media as higher for a while now (16x to 24x -- it was posted in hot deals as a matter of fact -- dude got flamed)
that samsung deal is $29.99 here (after $30 and $20 mir :( )
if the rebate for either is new rochelle, would not bother
my 16x samsung rebate (nrny, bb), i had to call
and call
and call
and resubmit (?!)
and call
and call
before i got it...

looking at cdrlabs.com, their review of the samsung gives a lower rating than the sony, in addition to requiring higher quality media. overall, the sony looks better than the samsung.

DAP,
I don't like your attitude! I've been nothing but polite on AT and dozens of other forums for many years.
Nor would I think that insulting anyone over the internet was cool, as you apparently think and do. Insulting someone should be done face to face. Anything else is cowardly. Funny, looking back over my years, there is only one incident where I really did insult someone. It was my Dad's best friend, and was entirely accidental. I remember it vividly, even today. It was a most embarrassing incident and I apologized immediately. I was a 14 year old kid at the time. It was 1955 and I'd already had a driver's License for two years. Being a farm kid had some advantages.

Dolph, I agree that the Sony looked better from the CDRLab's test(s) and considerably more desirable given that the Sony could be upgraded to 48X. I had just caught last Sunday's ad, looking for other CDR media so that I could eliminate the only remaining possibility for my troubles. I got TDK 40Xs for 2.99 AR. I only mentioned the Samsung because it was the same deal, basically, as the Sony.

So, DAP, Thank you for getting me in on what I think is a great dealio. :D

I'm ribbing you not insulting you ridefree ;) I know it's impossible to tell the difference by reading what people write on a BBS, although the lack of mad or disgusted symbols like you used should have been some evidence of it, so I thought I'd clarify my remarks for you. BTW you gave as good as you got from what I read :) Hey, I feel the same way about cowardly attacks, I submit that you were just being a little too sensitive but I appologize for offending you as it was certainly not my intent :) BTW I suggested you try different media intially so I'll be taking credit for the "fix" :p That's just me kidding some more BTW don't have a coronary on me :) I hope we can we have put this misunderstanding behind and can both enjoy some more hot deals together :D

Woops! I forgot to mention that this does indeed work as advertised, I guess most everyone else picked up on that.

Now that it turns out to be an issue of media (DAP gets the credit), my ? still remains, better off as...

1. CRX195E?
2. 40125W
3. Doesn't matter:confused:
