I don't know how you did it, but I put in the zip code in the beginning, says they have a few in stock, then when I give them my shipping address, it of course doesn't match the zip code that I put in the beginning, and it says there are none available and it won't be backordered. If I had known it'd be this difficult, I'd just go and find one locally and pay a little more and save myself a lot of stress. :disgust:

Don't bother, I think this is a dead deal. Click on the links in my post above and get a better cd-rw from Newegg for $55 (free shipping from FedEx too.)

"how do you use the turbo boost on this cdrw. I wana burn at 48X!!!
Also, whats the bad thing about burning at 48X??
Why cant you just keep 48 as default if the drive is capable of doing this?"
the review mentions this in detail i believe

"I wonder why the 32x is so much more expensive...even before the specials."
they are trying to sell 40x/48x now. the 32x is on clearance, and is following a different pricing structure (afaict). i bought one for $39.99 before AR last week, but most stores still have it @ $79.99

and somebody needs to school ol boy on how to do this deal (i didn't, so i don't know what is involved) :D so he'll quit crabbing :)

You're paying a little more, but you don't have to mess with rebates/coupons/etc, and this is just as good a drive, if not better. Plus, free shipping. Every review I've read about this drive has been good.

It doesn't burn@48x without flashing the firmware, it has a feature for increasing the read speed to 48x ;) which is still nice considering how many drives peak well below their max read speeds.

I order the SONY drive and I got the 48x...the SKU on the box is 386166

How could the same SKU be on two different yet similar products
rolleye.gif

However, when I had the countergirl print out my rebate receipts/forms, it shows I bought a SONY 40x :)

But the UPC listed on the receipt shows 2724261215...the UPC on my 48x drive is 2724261215 :Q

Since the rebate forms printed up, I know the SONY rebate will work and I think the OD rebate will go through...I wish they make the process less confusing :frown:

They may have some more at your local B&M. My nearest Office Depot is nearly 500 miles away. :(

Well, here's my story.

I placed an online order for this deal on Sunday and it showed it would be delivered on Tuesday. I got a "courtesy call" today (Tuesday) from OD online saying that they didn't have any more and wouldn't be getting any more because the item had been discontinued. They went on to say that they had found one in stock at my local B&M. I called the B&M and they verified that they had one and would hold it for me. They also said that they would honor the $15 off $50 if their computer would accept the code.

I drove over there and gave them the coupon code which took off the $15. I tried the $20 code first, but it wouldn't take it. However, as others have reported, the drive they gave me is the CRX210A1 (48X12X48). Both the rebates and the receipt printed out showing it as a 40X10X40 and the SKU on the receipt matches the SKU on the box.

I wonder if OD is replacing the 40X with the 48X and this is the result of them advertising the special on the 40X when they apparently don't have any in stock?

All I know is, $25 is a great deal if this drive is as good as the 40X CRX195A1.

Oh yeah, and the box has a disclaimer that states: "Conditions such as extreme temperature can cause discs to deteriorate, resulting in catastrophic failure if used at 48x speed. We therefore recommend the use of 40x." :)

Good luck and good hunting.

Sweet deal DAPUNISHER thanks!
I'm quite surprised at how quiet this thing is - hardly a whisper at 40X. Also cool is the fact that I can do 3 minute disk-to-disk copies at 40X with my Plextor 40X reader without even tapping into the burn-proof.
I don't know if anyone else mentioned this but the drive will show in Nero as 16X or whatever, depending on the disk. My Fuji Taiyo Yuden 16X disks limit the drive to 16X but my Imation CMC 16X disks read as 48X and I've already burned a few at 40X. So much for TY being "all that!"
Can't wait to burn 99 minutes of MP3's at 48X on some cheap clearanced 16X media!
