It's actually a Federal Crime to display the American Flag that way.
Perhaps this doesn't matter to you because american's are patriots and Kiwis are criminals ... you know... the whole.... Austrailia was a prison thing...
this.
for now..
The most recent attempt to adopt a flag desecration amendment failed in the United States Senate by one vote on June 27, 2006.
It will pass .. someday soon..
Do0d, there's no Gestapo to report this to, there's really no one at all. As was said, it's a crime with no penalty.
And, hey, for a country as huge and contentiously diverse as ours, we are pretty damn free.
Not allowing a tattered and torn flag to remain flapping carelessly in the wind is all about etiquette and respect. A lot of young men died in the Civil War and WWI and WWII to preserve our rights and freedoms as symbolized by Old Glory.
And yeah, our symbol has taken some credibility hits in the last several decades from the disgraceful and unnecessary acts of more than one administration, it's true.
These days, "patriotism" has been appropriated by a certain reactionary part of the political spectrum and has been ignorantly wielded as a cudgel against those they disagree with, giving credence to Samuel Johnson's dictum that, "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel."
This kind of angry, ignorant hyper-patriotism is sad, because I grew up in a time and place where people proudly and unselfconsciously displayed the flag on the Fourth of July and Flag Day and Memorial Day and Veterans Day in a simple, heartfelt, apolitical appreciation for all the opportunities living in the United States of America had afforded them.
It's ignorant that this company ignores all this, and they should be shamed into fixing it.
If someone is burning the flag to say "Fuck You America, you suck" ..
then yes... i do not agree with it.. and if i saw that person doing it .. i'd punch them in the fucking nustsack.
Find someone who speaks english and half them report it four you.
311 did nothing. However, there is a brand spanking new American flag on the building. I'm not sure whether it was my insistence on them changing the flag or my call to the various newspapers that finally got them to replace Old Glory. But what's done is done.
I have a poem for you. I hope you like it.
"next to of course god america i
love you land of the pilgrims' and so forth oh
say can you see by the dawn's early my
country 'tis of centuries come and go
and are no more what of it we should worry
in every language even deafanddumb
thy sons acclaim your glorious name by gorry
by jingo by gee by gosh by gum
why talk of beauty what could be more beaut-
iful than these heroic happy dead
who rushed like lions to the roaring slaughter
they did not stop to think they died instead
then shall the voice of liberty be mute?"
He spoke. And drank rapidly a glass of water
It's a fucking flag. Who gives a shit?
Blunt-ness aside, it really is just a god damn flag. All a flag is for (to me) is identifying a country. Nothing more. People that cling to traditions are ridiculously retarded. Our flag isn't sacred. No flag is. No religious text is.
I'm going to go buy a cheap $1 flag from a gas station on my way home today, then I'm going to wipe my ass with it (and then face the outrageous federal consequences, which will never be the same). Guess who's going to get hurt from it? NO ONE. Stupid fucking people need to stop caring about what other people do.

Then why the hell are you responding to his thread?

Because it's a forum for discussion...?
Did you seriously just ask that question? It's not like I posted a "Who cares?" I posted my opinion on the matter, which is what the hell a forum is for.
No. He asked who he can report this to and it became an unnecessary discussion.
I LOVE ee and know him better than you do. You are attempting to stand on the lower case shoulders of a literary giant.
It's a damn good poem and tells an important piece of our story. You, however, are naught but a loogie let loose on the sidewalk, the price the rest of us pay for the liberty afforded by the 1st amendment.
Your puny little asshole negativism gets a free ride, like a baby strapped into a child's seat in the car who does nothing to further the journey but throws up on the upholstery and whines and cries anyway.
There, there, little spaznips, does your diaper need changing?

R-tard.
Thankfully, our laws would protect your right to wipe your ass with the flag. Just like they'd protect your right to fly it upside down, make clothes out of it, or use it as a place mat.
Personally, I think that there are tasteful exercises of our first amendment rights and tasteless expressions. Case in point: The Westboro Baptist Church. Sure, they have the right to do what they do, but most decent people wouldn't.
You must have an easy fucking life to waste your time on shit like this.311 did nothing. However, there is a brand spanking new American flag on the building.
