A free country doesn't mean there are no laws... stop using that as an excuse for your "attacks" .. The USA is not an anarchist society.. there are laws that govern society...

Perhaps you should familiarize yourself with your own national laws.

In New Zealand, under the Flags, Emblems and Names Protection Act 1981 it is illegal to destroy the New Zealand flag with the intent of dishonouring it.

New Zealand actually has the law on the books. Perhaps you should stop posting how much of a free society New Zealand is... and learn your national laws.

he criticized the concept of disrespecting the flag a violation of LAW.

you interpreted that example (treatment of flag) as ALL LAWS.

this is where you fail.

Should throw the English flag....and the UK flag behind that while you're at it.

...Part-time housewives monitoring videos stationed all over town, looking out for "crime?"

lol at freedom.

"Where ever there is freedom, there is my home."
-Ben Franklin

"The world is my country and all mankind are my brethren."
-Thomas Paine

Our founding fathers did not practice this flag worshiping nationalistic bullsh!t. I like the United States because the ideals it represents. Some of your treat it like it's a religion. The flag is not sacred, it's a representation of the government, which is the necessary evil we use to enforce and create laws.

I care not a bit which country I live in, so as long as I'm free. That's the attitude our founding fathers have and unless you have the attitude to, you will always be a slave to the government, even when the country ceases to be "free", but your blind patriotism will insist to you it is free out of your delusional superiority of your government.

Go ahead and disagree with me, but this is the attitude this country was founded upon. Distrust of government. Distrust of blind patriotism.

exactly.

wait.. what?

way back when in this thread... i said i support a law that any intent to vandalize the flag should be illegal.. how is this different than what NZ has as an actual law?

and... he's criticizing a law.. that his own country has on it's books... and the USA does not.

So.. hes criticizing something here that doesn't exist..

Some people worry too much about nothing.

Another American who takes everything he has for granted while letting other people worry about retaining his freedoms.

It not the physical flag...it's what it represents. Aussies and Kiwis should show at least retain some respect due to a small event in history deemed WWII where Americans and these two countries fought for a common cause.

I've lived in various places all over the world and from what I've seen the flag and what it represents is something to care about.

Na, fuck it...let's worry about what's on our facebook pages instead...I'm sure that's more important.

a little far fetched don't you think?

going from disrespecting the flag... to HOA violations?

Umm yea. Those HOA people will call people, take pics, go out of their way if something isn't right with your house. The OP did the same thing just with a flag and a business.

Sorry but people worrying about things like that doesn't make the country better at all. With the time the OP spent trying to be cool and get the flagged changed, he could have done some good and volunteered or something to actually do something meaningful. Sorry but our ancestors did NOT die so someone would get their panties in a twist over a flag. People didn't die so every American flag in the country had to be flown correctly. Instead of getting uptight about flags, why don't you use that energy on something that actually has an affect on the country and it's people?

The difference being that no other country runs around proclaiming to be the "most free", despite reality.

I don't totally disagree with you but the concern is about disregarding and not respecting what the flag represents. Did the OP go overboard...yea probably but he obviously respects not the fabric and physical flag but what it represents.

It's like walking up to a vet and saying yea that's a shame about your lost limb but I have better things to worry about.

When I was in Korea, young Koreans had the same thoughts...they didn't care what happened 40 years earlier as it would never happen to them...that was someones problem along time ago. the older ones sure as shit remembered and appreciated a lot.

Bitching about long grass and the condition of a flag are not in the same category. People didn't lose their lives and fight for grass or a flag. What they fought for is what the flag represents.

And instead of being on this forum, bashing the OP for reporting what he felt was wrong.. you could have been voulenteering at a soup kitchen, or a homeless shelter.

Instead of getting uptight about a post on the internet, why don't you use that energy on something that actually has an affect on the country and it's people?

If someone is burning the flag to say "Fuck You America, you suck" ..

then yes... i do not agree with it.. and if i saw that person doing it .. i'd punch them in the fucking nustsack.

And if I saw you punching someone in the nutsack for that I'd punch you in the fucking nutsack.

I`m not the one trying to do something I felt was right and feel better about myself. I don't care if someone doesn't fly their flag properly. If you want to worry about something worry about something WORTH worrying about. If you're gonna try to act like you're better than someone else by "doing the right thing", worrying about something important.

Exactly... instead of telling people how they should act on an internet forum... worry about something important.

You seem to be overly concerned with what the OP worries about...

:hmm:

there's a big difference between having a discussion on an internet forum and going out of your way to make someone else replace their flag because you're "offended".

by the way, a flag is a piece of cloth made in china. it doesnt represent shit

This is why Canada will always remain the USA's strung out younger step brother.

Pretty sad really...everything just comes to you for free I suppose...it's just magic. Go play in a shit puddle in the any number of shitholes around the world and ask them their thoughts.

I can see you're pretty proud to be Canadian.

I have to wonder if anything or anyone represents anything to people like you.

By the way, ignorant statements you make are ignorant....they represent pure ignorance.
