There is no way he streamed 320GB though. He'd have to have watched youtube nonstop the entire month.

Comcast limite your download? I didn't know that. I was thinking switching over to them since my dsl is only 1.5mps/384kps and costs ~$70. Not to said I ever download that much in a given month, but why limite yourselves.

Limite? Is that french?

uh... sure why not. :p

Yep.

Or he's got a worm/virus.

Blame Teh Haxxors ... say that you took it to a local computer shop, it was infected, and that you're upset with Comcast for not blocking the Dangers of The Internets.

That's a good guess.

If it's a neighbor stealing their connection, they probably still have an IP address assigned by DHCP. You can check that on your router.

What bothers him is that if it happens again within the next year comcast will drop his account. Meaning if it continues to happen this month, they will drop him.

In several windows, too. As Elfenix pointed out, getting 320GB/month would entail about 120KB/sec for the whole month. Given that Youtube compresses the hell out of their videos, I think they wouldn't use up that much bandwidth.

And online radio would likely be either at 64kbps or possibly 128kbps, nowhere near fast enough to get 320GB in a month.

My sister got charged an extra $20 by her ISP because they claimed some one broke into her computer and was downloading stuff. So she called them and asked them to prove it, which they could not. They then removed the $20 on her bill.

That's what I thought. Someone could stick and FTP on his computer, upload Vista to it, and there ya go.

If he's been running an FTP server, people would be downloading from him, meaning his upload would be really high, but it's his download that's the problem.

Since when does comcast limit monthly usage anyway? I easily downloaded more than 320gigs in one month and Comcast never complained.

Strange, never got a call from Comcrap when I DL'd more than 650GB a few months ago. I usually use more than 320GB/month (not pron).

I don't see why comcast would have a problem with 320GB downloaded, unless it's illegal data.

Anyhow, maybe someone guessed the password on your wireless network? Maybe they had the neighbors over one day and gave it to them so they could use the Internet?

Yeah that sucks. You should go with Verizon FIOS or RR since I've downloaded several hundered gigs worth of stuff in a month and never been capped. Usenet ftw.

It's cheaper for Comcast to drop their high use customers than to buy more pipes to push all that data through.

Yep. 90% of the traffic is from 5% of the users. It's not good business to keep them around when they abuse the service.

Do any of the comcast agreements actually state that there is a limit and that you can be terminated if you go over it simply based on the amount of data you download? If not, sue them. ;)

It's not alphanumeric but it is 25 characters long.
