Well...I'm gonna give it a shot. Ordered the MB using Amex Blue just in case of a return problem. Now gonna go for the 1.6 P-4;)

How does this version compare to the Model#: P4B266-C with no Lan or Audio at Newegg for $117.00 Neweggs website lists it as an OEM version. Does this affect the warranty? MWave sells the board with Audio and USB 2.0 for $157.00 and even CDW lists a second version of this board part # 355877 for $206.57

Can someone explain the difference - Thanks

Mark

If you plan on overclocking, is it important to get the "high performance" Mushkin PC2100 memory or can their basic $113 512mb module do the job just fine?

What sort of memory chips are you guys running?

Its definately a misprint on the price.

All you have to do is check their other Asus P4B266 and it say USB 1.1 and it cost like $206.57.
This is a better version that comes with USB 2.0 and its only $80 ?? This board on the Net goes for around $150.

I was going to say something this morning but I knew the Ferangis would come out.
Shipping gets a whole lot cheaper if you order more than 1 board.
$12 for 1 board, $14 for 4 boards which was what I ordered :)

BTW, that CDW rep have no clue of what he/she talking about.
There is nothing that say its a non-returnable item. The site say they have a 30-day return guaranty so unless they state it other wise, we get a 30 day return period.

They can't just put out a product, not say anything and claim that its a non-returnable item.

Oh, I made sure I took a sreenshot of the product page. If they tried to give me some bullsh!t, I'll shove it back in their face

the $200 version is model P4B266-PA

the $80 version is model P4B266PAW

I wonder what the difference is

just ordered one with my AMEX Blue... if I get screwed, I'll let them handle it.

PENTIUM 4 - 478 PIN (RETAILED) & DDR BUNDLES
(ABIT BD7-R-Specs; INTEL PENTIUM 4 1.6AG - 478; KINGSTON 512MB NON-ECC PC2100; NO TESTING) $464.50

Not a bad deal. And these prices are definately legit. I think that CDW price is wrong, they are usually way overpriced.

Just got a call from CDW checking whether it was me who placed the order for the motherboard. They also made sure that I knew that it was using DDR RAM, not RDRAM. Also, they said that in case there is a problem with the motherboard, it will have to be done through ASUS, not through them. If I get it, I'll be happy and maybe I'll upgrade to P4 as well :) CDW rules, I definitely appreciate this phone call, it shows that their customer service is great.

Yes, they did confirm it for me. They called me because it was my first order from them and they wanted to make sure that no one was using my credit card. I said WOW to that, that's an amazing customer service!

Lukfilm, this is what I got in the email confirmation:

Just double-checking...
Occasionally a CDW account manager will call to confirm
or clarify orders placed online. Your contact information
is listed as follows:

So I guess they weren't kidding.
I gave them my home number which I never pick up anyhow(only use the cell) so I wouldn't know if they call or not.

BTW, I placed my order at 8:00 AM this morning.
Like I said, I took a screenshot and everything...with the part number, DDR, and such and they can't screw me even if they wanted to :)

Does anyone know what the difference between the PA and PAW version of the asus board is? Thanks. Also, would the Alpha 8045 work on this board?

Basically I guess the main differences are 3 DIMMS Compared to 2 DIMMS (I belive with 3 DIMMS you must have single-sided memory in DIMMS 2 and 3 for them to function properly), USB 2.0, On-Board Audio, and LAN. I picked up the CDW board that is advertised with USB 2.0, but for the price I'd be happy if it didn't. (In all likelihood it doesn't cause there seems to be something wrong with the ad.)

HardOCP seems to have gotten a 2.2ghz overclock by normal means. From Hardocp.com:

<< Our test system consisted of nothing special such as water cooling or Freon. A simple AVC Sun Flower cooler was used with the stock fan that came with it on an ABIT BD7-RAID mainboard and two 256MB sticks of Corsair XMS2400. >>

Of course that AVC sunflower is about $35 last time I checked.... wonder how much different the heat would be with the retail hsf?
