What would be a good stable mobo with raid to pair this 1.6 with ?

Also by default is the bus speed of the 1.6 100mhz ? or 133mhz ?

What speed DDR would be needed to OC ?

Having never built a computer this has me very interested....

The GA-8IRXP seems very good from the info listed. I want USB 2.0 built-in and it has it. Is this a good choice or is there better for less than $200?

hardocp said aBit BD7/RAID has 133mhz support DDR Ram it's kinda hard to hit 133mhz w/ RDRAM so..

100mhz quad pumped

The Gigabyte 8IRXP got Anand's gold editor's choice among the 845d chipset motherboards.... of course asus wasn't in that list, I'm kinda partial to asus myself, but the gigabyte has more features than the asus.

I just looked at Z-buy and according to the description, that 1.6 chip for $141 only has 256k cache therefore not northwood core.

Also thought I'd add that z-buy does have the gigabyte 8IRXP for $167 plus $7 shipping (retail), not bad for those of us in CA who generally have to pay sales tax.

$175 + 10 shipping at Newegg, plus tax for me.... $199.44 compared to z-buy for $174

GiGoLo, we're talking about the 1.6A, not the 2.2.

From Tom's test, it seems that the Bus speed were stuck at 118fsb even though we all know it can go higher.

So lets see here, if you get an 850 with rambus, your 1.6A will probally be stuck at 118fsb which means only 1.88Ghz.

Or you can get a DDR set-up, which is CHEAPER, and it will surely go to at least 2.2 all the way up to 2.7.

So would you rather get RAMBUS and be stuck at 1.88Ghz or get DDR and you might get one of those lucky chip that can go up to 2.7ghz, not to mention that its a cheaper solution ??

I think I know what all the SPEED FREAKS here want.

$79.37 for Asus P4B266

ASUS P4B266 Mainboard Review
>>

im planning on upgrading very soon and this seems to be a very very good deal. Are these 2 links for the CPU and Motherboard the best combination to overclock?? Also, to overclock, all that has to be done is messing with the FSB setting in the BIOS.. is this correct? FSB x multiplier = Speed?

Very good price on this Asus MB (P4B266)...very tempting...it would appear that this MB will allow you to use your older,(non P4),power supply. Anyone had any expierence with this board?:)

This does seem pretty good, although percentagewise it does not match up to my last 3 overclocks, which have all been 68% :D

Celeron 300a@504
Celeron 533@896
Celeron 600@1008

All on the same Abit BH6- all with the same Alpha heatsink... I just love taking it to "the man" :)

Can someone help me out here?
I just read the asus p4b266 review and I'm not sure on this one thing... Is it possible for me to have the cpu running at say 150Mhz and the ram running at 133 (266)? I got a little confused with the synchronous/asynchronous.
Basically, I want to know if I can run the chip to 150 with pc2100, or will I need to get pc2400 or pc2700?

just a quick heads up on the CDW deal.

I talked to a CDW rep and they pointed out that the board is a non-returnable item, so if it's defective you need to go thru ASUS to RMA it, they won't take it back.

Still a phenomenal deal, as long as it still retains all the overclocking features... if not....

EDIT: remove comment about P4b266-c

It says USB 2.0 on the CDW page for this ASUS motherboard:

Mfg. Part No. P4B266PAW/USB2.0

Gotta be a pricing error.

Wow, CDW shipping charges are kind of high, even for ground. I wonder why 2-day shipping is the same cost as ground.

Just snagged one, now I gotta find some good DDR memory for cheap. Any recommendations?

There's no product description on that P4B266. Does this have onboard sound or nic?

Seems like a sweet deal, but I'm really wondering whether I should upgrade or not. I got an AMD Athlon XP 1.4ghz @ 1610 (140*11.5) on an MSI KT266A Pro-2RU Mobo. I'm running a Koolance setup right now with just the cpu cooler and I'm probably gonna have to wait at least a month or two before Koolance comes out with a compatible cpu cooler for the new P4s. I have to build a system for a family member, and am thinking about giving them my old cpu + mobo and going with this deal as my personal rig.

Which one would perform better (I game, program, and do a little photoshop)
MSI 845 Ultra-ARU + P4 Northwood 1.6A@ ~2.2ghz for $293 + Koolance P4 Cooler (~$35)
or
MSI KT266A Pro2-Ru + AMD Athlon XP 1.4ghz @ 1610 (140*11.5)

Here are some other stats on my system:
512MB PC2100 Crucial Ram
Leadtek Geforce3 Ti200
SB Audigy
60gb 7200RPM ATA-100 Maxtor Drive
60gb 5400RPM ATA-100 WD Drive
