You can always play the maps offline against the AI bots, and you can have fun doing that if that's your thing. There is a single player campaign with movie cut scenes designed to introduce the different game types and maps to new players, but for the most part, you just play the different maps against the computer AI bots.

It's primarily an online multiplayer game. However, aside from using the single player game to learn how to play the game, why would you want to play it single player when you can play online? Note that eventually there will be lots of custom, user-made maps and mods for the game. (The previous UT games had over 10,000 of them.)

It's better now that the first patch has been released, but it's still substandard. Hopefully they'll overhaul it and put out a U-Windows version like in the Original.

2) Apparently there are no servers below 150ms.

That one's a YMMV sort of thing. I can find plenty of servers below 80 ping and I'm in the Midwest.

3) Everything has a dark and dreary look. Would it kill them to use something other than black, grey, and white?

4) 5 CTF Maps? No FaceClassic? GTFO.

The custom maps will be out sooner or later. There's already a remake of CTF-Incinerator and a CTF-ThornsV2 is in the works. I'm going to begin redoing some of my UT99 maps soon, too.

The game shipped with 6 on-foot no-vehicles CTF maps. However, they're all pretty good for public servers and most of them are league-worthy. In terms of their quality, they did OK.

Supposedly CTF-Face will be released in a bonus pack or a patch, hopefully sooner rather than latter.

5) No hidden weapons option...? Seriously?

I'm pretty sure that there's an option to not show the weapons (which gains you a couple FPS) and there's also an option to show small versions of the weapons, which is what I use.

6) Movement hard to go back to once you come from UT2004. Feels so restricted, especially with weapons that can 1 shot you easily.

Yeah, they decided to can the floaty-dodgey movement and go back to UT99 style movement (it was very successful in terms of online player counts). I think the dodges take you further than in UT99. I think the movement feels great, but I prefer UT99 over UT 2004.

I tried to play the demo, but it would fail to run on my computer, crashing just after the opening commercials. I also heard the server browser and a couple other things have been consolized, so I don't want to deal with that. I'm also kind of busy with school and have enough other games to play if I want (UT2004 if I ever install it again, Heroes of Might and Magic 3, Starcraft, IceWind Dale II).

the demo has been total garbage on my machines. I did however "borrow " a copy and it runs well. however, whats stopping me from purchasing at this point is...its been done before, all of it...its unreal 2004 as far as im concerned, no new weapons, same concept, NO stats tracking.

They need stats tracking to get me involved.
They also need to change it up a bit. I like the new tweaks and additions but, honestly....most of this stuff in the gameplay could have been added or changed to unreal2k4...

I have a big bone to pick with this game not being a drastic change. I will most likely get it for my ps3, but when I rented it.. NO ONE WAS PLAYING online OR the server browser was bugged, I have a hard time believing there are only 100 people playing this game online...

last unreal game i will worry about buying...ever.

I enjoyed the demo, but it was no Unreal Tournament 2K4. Then again, I've played 2K4 wayyyy more than just the UT3 demo.

One thing I loved about 2K4 was the Onslaught mode... is there any chance that will be added to UT3? I'm not sure I'd buy it if not.

Even if I did buy UT3 right now I have so many friggin games to play between my PC and Wii I think I could play a different one a day for a month and not hit the same one twice (currently playing TF2 and a bit of Crysis).

There is just so much competition in the shooter market. With Crysis, Orange Box, COD 4, Quake Wars, Bioshock, Gears of War and others being released recently the shooter fanbase can pick and choose. The speed of UT3 may not appeal to some or maybe people think it's too similar to the previous game. Regardless of the reason, the market is flooded and there is only so many shooters a gamer can play.

I'm an Unreal Tournament 1 kind of person. That was some of the best FPS mayhem ever. I'll let my fellow UT1 people try UT3, and if it's as good, they'll let me know.

If you enjoyed UT1, definitely consider UT3. I think of it almost as a bona fide UT99-2, at least as close as we'll ever get to something like that. Try the Demo and focus on whether you like the game play. (The retail version, especially after the first patch, is much much better than the Demo.)

I definately plan on get it however my monthly LAN parties are still UT2K4 plus I just got the Orange Box having never played HL2 so I have a fair amount of play in front of me and have become slightly addicted to TF2

You haven't played many games, try having played *all* the fps multiplayer games since DOOM 1 and UT3 is a little ho hum. The older you get: The more jaded you become as a gamer.

Hey "Pol" Yeah, if you're out there, that was me that you PM'd in IRC, but was AFK for about two hours at the time.

On irc.GameRadius.net try channels #speedpug (UT99 CTF), #ut3ctf, and #ut3tdm. Not too much activity in #ut3 as far as I know.

The demo killed it for me. In a quieter period (i.e. away from Crysis, CoD4 and The Orange Box) I would have taken a punt, but there's just far too much quality around at the moment to take a punt on UT. I loved 99, but 2003 burned me bad. CoD4 and TF2 have all the multiplayer goodness I need right now.

I also didnt like the feel of the vehicles TBH. I could just buy it and play now vehicle modes but I'm then only using half of what I bought when its already a marginal purchase for me. Once I've got bored of the others I may pick it up on budget, provided Battlefield 3 hasnt arrived by then, in which case I'll be missing UT out altogether.

The question isn't "Where are all the UT3 players." the question is "Where are all the FPS players". The answer is TF2, and CoD4.

Epic removed all the things that PC gamers expect from a fast-paced FPS (pings on the scoreboard, feature-rich server browser with history and friends lists, verbose death messages, etc) and gave us a bug-ridden game, rushed out the door for the Christmas season. Yeah, they patched few things, but it's too late for that. And frankly, they were things that should have never have been a problem in the first place. Epic has been making PC games for years. They know damn well what a PC gamer expects in a game. It doesn't take much to make a decent server browser or menu system. The fact that it was so poor, when it would have taken so little effort to get it right (they've done it right in the past) doesn't give me much confidence in Epic.

In fact, they probably could have gotten away with releasing UT3 at any time in the last 2 years, since AAA titles have been few and far between. But they waited until the playing field was full, and people now have the option of getting what they want in a FPS.

With Steam's feature-rich server browser, I can filter out the servers I'm not interested in. Last night, I had my pick of over 60 populated servers with pings of less than 100. Contrast this to 12 populated warfare servers, of which only 2 had playable pings (<100) and more than 4 or 5 people. 2 playable servers, and I shouldn't have even seen the other 10, but I did becuase the crappy server browser can't filter them out.

Plus annoying taunts, hopelessly random lag, inability to type @ on a UK keyboard without workarounds. It was pathetic basically.

The reason I haven't picked it up is because its time has passed. They should've released it soon after UT2k4 started getting boring. UT99 was awesome... that had a strong following for years after, then came the next iteration. UT2k3/4 did not have the same following at all... they needed to do damage control back then, not 3/4 years later.

I played the UT3 demo and the urge to play those types of games is no longer there. :(

Have it, but not really getting into it. I think I am just getting too old (30) for FPS which move this fast.

People seem to be bouncing around like flippin bunnies on speed, and the weapons all require you to anticipate where the use will be moving to seconds after you fire cause they are all so damn slow.

Whereas I have been able to pick up COD4, moves at the right pace, and I am totally addicted to that.

There was no option in the poll for my reason not to buy it. I like the engine, gameplay & it runs solid on my machine, but I refuse to buy a multiplayer game that hardly anyone is playing. Only 600-900 players online at the same time for a newly released A+ title?

No thanks

Plus the way they have handled Gears for PC is garbage. I've never seen more than 15 online games going on GoW, usually less than 10.

The demo was fun for an hour or so, then it got boring. The vehicles handle oddly and most of the weapons seem useless. I guess I just like the more "realistic" shooters nowadays - BF2 and CoD4.

Agreed. Way too many good multiplay games out right now (currently playing COD4, and I still have Crysis and COH to get to). Built a new PC recently to take advantage of this recent crop of games, plus there's still the oldie but goodie BF2 -- one of the best teamwork games ever, IMHO.

Like another poster mentioned, the original UT99 and UT2003 were both awesome and I played those regularly online for well over a year each. Didn't play UT2004 at all and I doubt I'll play this new one unless someone gives it to me for Xmas. Even then, I would consider returning it for Orange Box.

So many reasons...mostly the demo completely underwhelmed me, no fit or finish on this game, terrible online browser, lackluster graphics, insulting game mechanics. There are far better options for my time and money.
