Actually he said he could care less </end semantic nonsense > 😉

SoundStorm is great for HTPC via SPDIF but otherwise the only noteworthy aspect is the very low CPU usage.

SLI is the "killer" feature this go around.

Im also put out by the lack of soundstorm.

Especially with integrated Envy solutions coming from VIA soon.

However, like many others we will get NF4 anyway for SLI.
 
who says via can't do SLI? And what's so great about it? It only means that you have to buy TWO expensive graphics cards. Personally, I only need one. I think it would be crazy to do SLI from a price/performance standpoint.

You can buy 2 inexpensive cards too. The sweetspot will be sli capable cards that mod to higher end parts or overclock like mad, then there can be a bang-for-buck factor for you and I. The primary market is the workstation crowd where the power will be most welcome and the cost not at all prohibitive. For the enthusiast market the FX, P4EE, SCSI, and phase change crowd that live on the bleeding edge will be the main consumer of this tech I imagine.

We need more information about the universe he is in.

Take your bashing stick and hit yourself over the head repeatedly.

Soundstorm is amazing for an inbuilt solution. Its essentially a free good quality sound card.

Granted, if I had the cash to waste on a new system then I wouldnt mind buying an Audigy 2 but quite frankly Soundstorm is one of the best onboard solutions created.

Look above, plenty of people agree with me already then add in the amount of people who havent read/posted here. You are clearly the minority.

It's too bad, nVidia makes great chipsets, but I'm gonna pass this time around unless they get their thumb out and support OSS developers a bit.

Soudstorm is still the fastest 3d audio solution out right now. Unfortunately that doesn't really mean much when it's paired with one of the slowest available CPUs.

So why does Soundstorm suck? I like 3d positional audio with no CPU hit, don't you? It's the ONLY existing sound solution that will ENCODE Dolby AC3 and output the information over SPDIF or optical.

The only bad thing about soudstorm is that, except for a few rare cases, it is paired with a POS realtek DAC that affects analog output quality since the APU didn't have a DAC, it relied on whatever motherboard makers decided to put in, which is ALWAYS that POS Realtek AC97.

Given the seeming excessive CPU speeds that will go along with an upgrade to an A64, I think I'll just use my Chaintech VIA Envy card. At least it has decent SNR. I think 3D audio can be handled by the CPU ok. At least until someone comes out with something similar to SoundStorm in capability as an add-on card.
