Yes, I suppose if we're going to get specific, calendar late October 2010 is when the entry-level AMD-branded 6000 series came out. The 6000-series still used the VLIW architecture of previous HD SKUs. The first major architectural change after the merger was RISC-based Graphics Core Next of the 7000-series introduced in late 2011/early 2012.

HD6000 was essentially the end of ATI's roadmap, HD7000 was the beginning of AMD's. That's how I interpret it anyway. ;-)

I'd say that going from VLIW 5 down to VLIW 4 in Cayman was also a pretty major change in architecture.

Hell yeah even in the original box, very nice. What a score.

This is the card that was well known for its loudness correct?NVM found this video answering my own question.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qspdnAYiiug Performance had to be beast to put up with that much noise lol. It's before my time so i wish i only knew what a original owner back then was thinking hearing that.

 That's a sweet Holiday 2015 present for you. This card and the box look 99.9% brand new. Amazing find for one of the rarest cards. Hopefully the price is reasonable too. Do your part and add a YouTube video of this card's leaf-blower running Unigine Valley/Nature at full load. :p

They probably ended up looking like the guy on the box :awe:

BFG had some awesome art on their card boxes,i had at one point a BFG 7800gs agp with the all copper cooler with blue leds and the box alone was Christmas. The excitement just seeing the box was enough for anyone to not be pumped. Actually seeing what you was about to spend your hard spent money on meant so much to me.

Evga did nearly a equally better job on their 8000 series, miss those days.

I had a BFG Tech 8800 GTX OC2 in 2008.

That card cost me around 750$ CAD back in the days and it was the best card available.

Probably the best card I had in my life.

Would they even run on a dx 9 card?

some of the cards that are related to the 5800 U in one way or another

Why would you have 3 of the same card... ?

Two of these are special and two are just better

One of these is what it is, One can be what it's not and one is the best of the lot.

Of these two guys, one is a dime a dozen and the other may be one of a dime or dozen

George, George and George

Got G80?

Fond memories of my 8800gts 512mb,i had the 320mb for a short time cause i couldn't afford the 640mb.Knew the 320mb would gimp the card and exchanged it quickly when by chance the 8800gts 512mb lands on the shelves at Frys.

Damn dream come true, idk how many nights i dreamed of affording a 768mb 8800gtx but to many and to have a card come out much cheaper then both the 640mb and 320mb 8800gts was just awesome:) Best card ever!

Nice score Lava! Trip down nostalgia lane seeing your collection too. I got into gaming right around the 9800Pro --> 6000/X800 series. They were some great cards back in the day.

What a great thread and congrats on the find! I haven't gotten into collecting GPUs (I do enjoy informally collecting old CPUs for some reason), but I have kept my old Obsidian X-24 since it holds a special place in my heart.

Do you run any of these GPUs in period correct rigs lava?

The cards I just posted pics are just a very small portion of what I have. Yes I do have a few period correct rigs too. I'll post up a couple for you in a bit

I would have killed for a Voodoo5 back when I had a Voodoo3. I loved the 3dfx boxes, even that V5 PCI one you have is awesome. I wish there was a good reason to justify putting together an old 3dfx powered windows 98 machine but really glide wrappers kind of make that pointless :(
