Yeah I've changed views on the cellphone thing, you really need one and some are cheaper than landlines now, so...
except when you see them rocking the latest iphone.

What's truly unsettling about this is that the unemployed are now such a large bloc that they have their own advocacy groups. They are now their own constituency. In the past we've never asked how a candidate was "polling among the unemployed." I think that's coming soon.

There are exactly 3 options for the government to take:
1) Guarantee living wage jobs for all. This will cost tons of money, will never be fully successful, but will make the situation better (at least in the short run).
2) Guarantee unemployment and health benefits for all. This will cost tons of money, will never be fully successful, but will make the situation better (at least in the short run).
3) NOT provide any avenue of direct relief to individuals. This will result in an uprising of starving, hopeless citizens (most of whom armed and many trained) as they do whatever they have to do to feed their families (or, as said previously in the thread, they'll manage to get welfare for a net loss in tax dollars). The event would certainly call for increased protection, more jails, etc. The end result would be total social collapse, rampant crime, total loss of government respect/efficacy, more government spending than ever conceived of before, millions dead, etc.
Feel free to pick any option you like.
I didn't realize "their version" didn't adhere to the "laws" of economics. When did I say their version of limited government is good?
But do you truly need help? Are you going to bed hungry every night? Do you have a roof over your head? You sound like someone who has less disposable income to spend not someone who needs 12 more months of unemployment checks. Are you just a greedy asshole? I mean if I am to be called a f'ing idiot... is it not appropriate to call you that?
Despite what you hear, there is a finite amount of currency that can flow within our system. How about letting the people that truly need benefits during this recession get them.
I'm an idiot because my wife lost her job, and we NEED 2 incomes to pay the bills and put food on our table. Am I going to bed hungry? No, but if my wife did not have UI, we'd be up shit creek and on the curb in 6 months or less.
Less disposable income..pfft. Ok. Another hardass keyboard commando thinking UI = Welfare. f'ing idiot
pffft f'ing idiot who does not realize that getting two years of UI is pretty is welfare. F'ing idiot who does not realize there are limited financial resources in this country. That is not "free" money.
Really no point in arguing with someone with your mentality anyway . So I am done. But I would like to point out a very handy resource that may help empower you to weather the next financial storm:

this would explain why more government always leads to good things for us.
OH WAIT. According to economics, it's NOT good for the economy.
really? exactly 3? not 3.25?
what about we shoot to kill on all offenders in scenario 3 which will reduce the population and hence the number of ppl needing support.

Super extended Unemployment benefits are expiring at the end of the month.
"When the deadline expired at the end of May, it took lawmakers 51 days to pass an extension until Nov. 30. The pricetag of that six-month extension was $34 billion."
Congress has a narrow window to act. Lawmakers return on Nov. 15 for a week before taking off for the Thanksgiving holiday. Then they are back for only two days before the Nov. 30 deadline hits.
The lame duck House, which is still controlled by the Dems till Jan 2011, will pass a bill. Lets see if the Repubs in the senate successfully fillabuster especially given the new Repubs election win momentum.
Stop spending my tax $$$!

More than 1 million people could lose their jobless benefits and health insurance subsidy in March if Congress doesn't act fast.
But Reid plans to address the jobless benefits deadlines when Congress returns next week, a Senate Democratic aide said.
6months was the norm. Bush extended unemployment benefits to 1yr. Obama added 13 weeks to that for a total of 1yr 3months.
Now some groups are lobbying for it to be extended to end of year.
WTF?! :q
Stop spending my tax $!!! End this socialist agenda!
your thoughts?

Let's do away with all benefits! While we're at it, let's stop all government spending too! Nevermind the fact that it would send us spinning into the greatest depression ever! You've got your guns, your bunker, and your farm 1ready don't you?
