20 years ago television had everyone convinced that Green Berets were invincible after the Rambo movies, every young male in America wanted to be one. Now it's the Navy SEAL. Before that it was Bruce Lee and the martial arts. See a pattern here? Just because someone is an incredible specimen of human endurance and a movie glorifies them does not make them a good fighter.

It's much easier to kill someone than it is to fight them. I have a SEAL training video and it's all about going for the eyes, nuts, and throat. It takes anyone ten minutes to learn. It's practical common sense and there is no magic involved. They are no better trained to kill than the average Marine. Takes way longer to learn how to be a good fighter.

Watch the SEAL training on the discovery channel and it will show you that SEALs are about endurance, endurance, and more endurance. They are mostly just gung-ho kids that you would certainly not back down from in a fight. I can't wait until another Hollywood movie comes out and has every kid in America thinking that some other group of men are unstoppable machines. Sorry to my SEAL friends, but I am sure they would tell you the same thing.

I don't know what you guys think Navy SEALs are... but they're not. They're highly specialized sailors best used to conduct precision operations in hostile environments. They don't train to fight hand to hand as much as a UFC fighter or something. They have a combatives program that focuses on quick, "cheap" shots to disable or kill. Overall a SEAL is a much more dangerous person. But in a cage fight, obviously the cage fighter is going to win.

UFC fighters are not trained for a quick take down and pin of the enemy. They are trained in a way that extends the fight and makes it more TV friendly. The SEAL would win.

anyhoo, going for the eyes and nuts is exactly what Bruce Lee taught....and he did it faster than anyone else.

check out the bonus material on the movie Redbelt--which uses tons of MMA fighters. All they talk about is how Bruce Lee was, more or less, the creator of MMA. The entire idea of JKD is mixed martial arts. Lee's remaining student plays "The Master" in the film. Think about that for a bit.

They do it in a protective confined ring, though, which really isn't what Lee was about.

These guys also do a lot of the training for special forces types; so is it more of an argument over the instructor (professional fighters) vs the student (special forces)?

You're obviously 16 years old and your screen name says it all. Go watch another Segal movie. Ultimate fighters spend all their time training to be tough guys. Do you really think they don't learn how to grab nuts and punch throats? You act like SEAL training is some hidden secret that the general public has no access to. ANYONE can learn everything a SEAL knows about killing in a short amount of time. I don't hear anyone claiming that the average Marine would rule a tough guy competition and he has just as much "kill" training as a SEAL. Common sense should tell you that all soldiers are trained for survival. You have much to learn.

Sorry. But I felt some logic was in order. Tired of morons that haven't got clue one and no critical thinking skills.

It really depends. MMA still has rules, which the SEAL is not going to abide by. Eye gouging, testicle grabbing, throat punching, biting and small joint locking are going to be in the SEAL's playbook. That MMA fighter will try and win the fight. The SEAL will try to kill the MMA guy. If it's no-holds-barred and assuming no major weight differences, I'd wager on the SEAL. If it was a ring match with MMA rules, I'd bet on the MMA fighter.

I'm not a big UFC fan, but I've seen some of those fights end in about 15 seconds before.

One last time, from personal experience, eye gouging, testicle grabbing, throat punching, biting and small joint locking are all functionally useless. Yes, in the very very off chance you can perform these techniques they might change the outcome of a fight. 99% of the time you can't. If you can't win using gross motor skills such as boxing, wrestling, etc you can't win with a finger lock or a magic eye gouge.

Fail, and the guy that compared WWE to UFC on the first page is Fail too, and everyone who thinks Bimbo Slice is any good Fail too rofl.

MMA fighter would win 8/10 times IMO, Seals guys probably have a couple different moves such as eye gouging or groin strikes to take the enemy down right away, but the MMA fighters would probably utilize those too even though they don't train specifically for them since they're illegal in MMA.

who the fuck cares?! you could debate this til your fucking nuts fall off. of course each is a specialty so if you put either one in there own environment they're going to have a major advantage over the other. there is no way to definitively call this one. the video above is proof of this as the fighter is in his own element whilst the seal is not. however if you placed the MMA fighter in the middle of a mission to kill osama bin laden i bet the fucker would be shitting his pants at the first sight of a gun/knife. the fanboyism hear is enough to make me puke, i feel like i'm in the damn video forums.
