Clay pigeon shooting. I don't own ammunition.

There's nothing in the article about the woman in the OP having any ammo either. What's more, her gun was an antique collectable that she had no intention of firing wheras your gun is fully functional. Why is she more of a criminal than you?

Her gun was illegally owned, mine was not.

She was committing a crime, I was not. That's why she is a criminal and I'm not. I have a licence to own a shot gun, she does not have a licence to own her gun.

How do you recommend a woman living by herself defend against an intruder/rapist, should she feel that is a legitimate threat?

what about people who doesn't have thumbs? or people with parkinsons? etc etc...

This is where I go into full HAL mode...

So... I don't understand how the gun laws in England work. How can you have a permit to own a gun? How does that work?

Edit: An even better question comes from this link... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/10220974

Getting a licence is a long and complicated business. Every stage of the process is designed to reduce the likelihood of a gun falling into the wrong hands. It starts with an application form which asks specific questions about why the individual wants a gun, telling them they need to show "good reason".

Why would someone who purports to hate guns as much as you have shown in several forums on this site go through so much trouble to own one? And what would happen if it came to light that a person with a shotgun certificate was diagnosed with mental disorders? Would that certificate be revoked?

For a shotgun licence:

Applying for a shot gun license
Having a police background check
Receiving a license
Having the police come round the house to check how the weapon is to be stored, Checking who owns a key
Edit: Buy shotgun and notify police of aquisition
Having a shotgun stored in a secure box that has been checked by the police
Police re-check every year or so

For a firearms certificate, I have no idea, I've never been through it, I know it's more complicated an involved.

As you can see above, I answered my own question... because I know how to google.

Perhaps you could address my other questions.

I used to go clay pigeon shooting a lot.

No they re-evaluate you, if you notify them.

Next time google before posting, don't post question then google then come back and re-edit with the answers.

I already have.

Same as I did with my drivers licence.

Also disorder != disease.

It is a disease.

Since you like to use Wiki as definitive...

A disease is an abnormal condition affecting the body of an organism. It is often construed to be a medical condition associated with specific symptoms and signs. It may be caused by external factors, such as infectious disease, or it may be caused by internal dysfunctions, such as autoimmune diseases. In humans, "disease" is often used more broadly to refer to any condition that causes pain, dysfunction, distress, social problems, and/or death to the person afflicted, or similar problems for those in contact with the person. In this broader sense, it sometimes includes injuries, disabilities, disorders, syndromes, infections, isolated symptoms, deviant behaviors, and atypical variations of structure and function, while in other contexts and for other purposes these may be considered distinguishable categories. Diseases usually affect people not only physically, but also emotionally, as contracting and living with many diseases can alter one's perspective on life, and their personality.

Haha.... fuck you. At least I know how to google... and do it... Mr. 'is Miracle Whip like Salad Cream' man.

Hal's here to use us as a sounding board so he can rationalize his beliefs. He's not the first, won't be the last, just one of the most persistent. He's not going to change or learn, but he's not confident enough in his beliefs to be silent about them, so he argues the same things over and over. I've seen it in person and online more times than I care to recall. Identical behavior.

We really need a vote-kick system on this forum. A nice moderated one requiring evidence, several people to propose before it is considered, and allowing for defense and such, but with a majority vote deciding in the end. Will probably never happen due the required effort, but would really clean things up.

Aren't you bi-polar? If so, it appears that you illegally own your shotgun as well. I'd bet you didn't inform the police of this fact when applying for your license.....or if you discovered your mental illness after you got your license I'm sure you didn't inform the police. Either way, you are a criminal and should be in prison.

edit: Oops looks like guyver beat me to the punch.

I was diagnosed after getting the licence at which time I notified them (please read the thread, I've said this already) I also notified the DVLA when I was diagnosed, in regards to my drivers licence.

Wow, late to the party here but I just read this entire thread and am blown away (no pun intended). Do people like HAL really exist? Thank God I live in the USA. It's really sad that a supposed free society has totally been disarmed...again. And the criminals have free reign to terrorize the people who will end up going to jail if they kill their aggressors in self-defense. Really a pathetic society the UK has become...to have allowed their govt to elect laws in this fashion.

This is why the slippery slope argument is a valid one in terms of regulations here in the US and why gun owners and sportsmen fight them to the end. Once the gun banners get a foothold, they will keep at it until we become like Britain. No thanks.

The world powers as a whole want to limit the power of the people in any capacity quickly today. Start with low hanging fruit, profit.
