UK general election 2019, voting day today (prediction thread, news, whatever)

Sure if the Brits were better off because of Leftist policies they've been voting for the past decade, they would've voted for Corbyn in a landslide right? Or maybe their lives are significantly worse than 10 years ago and they're sick and tired of being told what to do by the EU and fake pols who act like they're going to do what they want? Just as people in the U.S. got sick of 3 TV channels telling us how to think and vote.

Boris and Trump are a helluva lot better than anything we've had in the past 50 years. They are goofy but at least genuine. And most people like that they flip flop, by the way. Changing your position as more information is exchanged is a sign of utmost intelligence, which many that I've read here lack. I'm willing to change my stance but you better have solid evidence to back your claims. For example, many of you will be shocked to know that I've actually stopped eating meat products and protein supps. Still hitting the weights hard, but even a middle-aged dog like me can change.

Wait... what? The Conservatives have had the Prime Minister's position and largely control of the government for the past nine years (Cameron, May and now Johnson). They haven't really been "leftist" at all. Austerity, starving the NHS... seems more like typical right-wing ideology to me. And you've basically admitted that the Conservatives are abject failures.

Changing your position requires operating on sound facts and trustworthy sources... which you don't have. Your 'hero' Trump is a confirmed fraudster, a habitual liar and a nepotist who appoints people based on loyalty instead of competence, and yet he's supposed to be the best thing for the US in the past 50 years? Er, no.

I've never understood people like the OP. Why should any one ever be afraid or anxious of one political party beating out another unless there is a legitimate threat of tyranny and oppression?
Or is that what you're saying, OP? That you're hoping a Tory win in the UK means tyranny and oppression for their opponents? That you're hoping that Trump or Boris really do punish all those lefties for disagreeing with them, and with you?
That must be it, because otherwise your rhetoric makes no sense.

And how does anyone manage to believe that the President of the US and the Prime Minister are anti-Establishment? Would anyone in those positions at the very highest levels of govt power be the leaders of the Establishment, by actual definition?

guess the op came out from under his bridge
Yup, too busy making hundreds of thousands and reproducing. By the way, I hear conservatives in the U.S. are now out-reproducing leftists. Leftists are so concerned with hedonism that they don't want to sacrifice and have kids because childbearing is too hard. lol
"Instead, the study in the authoritative journal Political Behavior, conducted by scholars from Brown and Penn State University, suggested that liberals could be the endangered species in the coming decades as conservatives, typically white, have more children than liberals. And those children, this study and others show, commonly follow the politics of their parents.

Deep in the study, “The Dating Preferences of Liberals and Conservatives,” the authors cite indications that conservative families are having more children than liberals and that could change the political tilt of the nation, according to their simulations. And, they added, it could happen faster than their tests show."

"However, upon further digging I’ve found a silver lining: Natural Selection, as always, is simply replacing one group of people with another. From an evolutionary standpoint this makes perfect sense: Natural Selection is replacing the group of people who believe less into America, sometimes to the point of hating it, (Liberals) with those who strongly believe in it (Conservatives)
Extremely liberal (2.5%) — 1.61
Liberal (12.7%) — 1.72
Slightly liberal (11.3%) — 1.58
Moderate (39.9%) — 2.14
Slightly conservative (15.6%) — 2.03
Conservative (14.3%) — 2.34
Extremely conservative (3.7%) — 2.62"

So don't worry, if we can't beat leftists at the polls this time, it's comforting to know that their ideology will die off as they do and we out-breed them. Expect more Trumps in the future, my ideas will live on through my kid. We're actually trying for another and may adopt if that doesn't happen.

As population pressures continue to increase in our modern consequence-insulated environment, the evolutionary drive to stem the population growth will become manifest the way it always has in the absence of plague or famine: through war, mass murder, and genocide. But first, divisions must be found and claims must be staked in order to have something to fight over.
A few years ago, I was having a political discussion with a professional acquaintance. He's older and conservative, wealthy and considers himself self-made even though he started his business with his father's money. But I still respected him, and our conversation was civil and intellectual. He considers a libertarian and was, as always, complaining about big govt and taxes. So I asked him, what do you want from govt? You're not anarchist, right? Of course not, he said. So what do really want from govt? And he said (and yes I do quote) that what he wanted was for the govt "to put more people to sleep." I was a little confused, and asked if he meant the death penalty for criminals. To which he agreed, but then he said, "more than that... some people just don't belong here.. they're a drag on society, and I think that the govt should be able to put them to sleep." I was a little taken aback by this, but recovered and said, I feel certain that the people that you want the govt to put to sleep won't think that that's the actions of a small govt.
We've never had another political conversation since.

Sounds like he would have been a good fit in Germany at a certain time period.

It's not like what happened there was anything new. It's just that, for a relatively brief period in human history, we decided such behavior shouldn't be tolerated.

I know that the very basis of conservativism is that everything is genetic, but in truth, political ideology is not genetic. Case in point: my parents were both extremely conservative and had 6 children, none of whom became conservative. My dad even joked with me once that a conservative upbringing was the surest way to raise liberals.

Keep trying though, buddy. It's cute.

Aww, so your anecdote invalidates studies done by ivy league schools like Brown and Harvard? Nice reach, but let's see some hard data to back your opinion. Just because your family is an outlier doesn't invalidate legit research, nor the fact that at current fertility rates progressives and leftists will be bred out of the political landscape.

Here an anecdotal red pill for you guys: Hispanics are Catholic and and pro-family and conservative by nature. To quote Ted Cruz, when was the last time you ever saw a Hispanic pan handler? Importing more Catholics and always assuming they'll vote blue is hilarious. Most of the Hispanic men in my family like Trump and can't stand illegals. They have vacation homes in Tiajuana and hate what the clowns from Central America have done to Tiajuana (trash everywhere, diseases, crime, etc). Yet the women still mostly voted Hillary (who they hate today).

It's not like what happened there was anything new. It's just that, for a relatively brief period in human history, we decided such behavior shouldn't be accepted.

I would argue that they did bring something new to the table. The ideological underpinnings and the national, industrial level of organization (and maybe the inclusion of so many different types of official 'undesirable') is pretty much unlike anything else the world has seen.

Unfortunately I expect that we'll see it again at some point in time because it seems pretty darn clear that humanity doesn't actually learn lessons from shit like that.

Nobody said anything about punishment. When the people want something and they don't get it, guess what happens - they come out overwhelmingly for what they want the next time. Whether you view it as punishment or not is up to you. There is only so many different ways to delay Brexit and the people are fed up. They're lucky the Brits didn't yellow-vest themselves.

Now for the US, it was more about jobs. People need them to survive, it's that simple. Trump has brought jobs to the midwest via manufacturing increase (500k+ jobs so far) and via policy like the USMCA and Phase 1 of the China deal that just went through today which he said constituted about 60% of what he wanted in the deal. So he's clearly doing things that other presidents failed to do, and the economy is only going to get better as a result.

Trump was most definitely anti-establishment. Look at Lindsey Graham's comments in 2017 referring to Trump vs now. The Republicans hated Trump and probably still do, but they're forced to fall in line because he's such a persuasive personality - most likely a once in a generation personality combination of confidence/arrogance, humor, naivete, quick-witted, marketing mastermind all wrapped up in one person. Republicans would be stupid to smash that lightning in a bottle, whereas Democrats shun their lightning in a bottle with candidates like Tulsi or Yang because of corrupt neoliberals who feel the need to rig everything for who THEY want, not the people. That's why Yang boycotted MSNBC and Tulsi is suing google; they are both tools of the neolib rigging machine.

No, I was pointing out what your article didn't say. Your study said that conservatives have more children. It didn't provide any evidence that those children remain conservative in adulthood, it (and you) are simply assuming that. I should be asking you for that hard evidence.

And the answer to Ted's question is this morning, on my commute to work. If Hispanics were all the same there wouldn't be any illegals.

Unfortunately I expect that we'll see it again at some point in time because it seems pretty darn clear that humanity doesn't actually learn lessons from shit like that.

We are still rather basic animals following our base instincts.

Capitalism flourished in its early ages, and industrialization sent us soaring and lifting humanity to new heights of wealth and comfort. In that period of time, our comfort allowed us to pursue higher ideals. We felt safe enough to "let our guard down" and show a little compassion for others.

Times change, things evolve. Nothing ever stays the same. Capitalism has changed. It is NOT your grandfather's, or even your father's market. The rise of Income Inequality, the ever increasing GAP between Wages and GDP, means our people have lost a massive amount of wealth from one generation to the next. Each year our economy devolves, and our society goes with. The stress of our daily lives now leaves us bereft of our own "humanity". Of our compassion and empathy. No room for those in modern society, it is back to the law of the wild. Might makes right, kill or be killed. Fascism is the scourge of our base behavior and we can never rid ourselves of it so long as we do not successfully eliminate the underlying causes of said behavior.

The root of it is "not having enough". Time, energy, money, feeling safe and secure. Overpopulation and changes in population are the driving factor coupled with how Capitalism has evolved and stripped us of our comforts. Life is full of stress and we respond by associating with fascist ideas and fascist people. It drives populism and creates a Nazi like behavior. From the best of people we can find the worst of people. For man is one in the same. The sins of the past can easily become the sins of the future, or the present.

The rise of modern nationalism / fascism is proof positive that Western Civilization has reached a failure point. A moment in our history where we shall literally perish and fade from power, enabling others (China) to succeed us. Unless someone with both the knowledge to solve the modern economy, and the power to get it accomplished, will rise up and become our salvation. Though as the days march on and our societies devolve into madness and despair, I cannot help but fear the time for solutions has passed. The prevalence of Alt-Reality as split among tribal lines is of grave concern to me.

How can we come together to help ourselves now?

The only abject failure was Teresa May. It's well known she's a neoliberal parading around as "conservative". She is the reason Brexit failed and this was by design. Johnson is a direct response to her idiocy.

Trump is a liar, sure. And you forgot that he cheated on his pregnant wife which is much worse than lying as a politician. But he's better than anything either party has right now to combat the "media" and globalist bankers. Sure he makes mistakes. But he's effective at getting things done, and doing them in an entertaining way (good and bad) than pretty much any prez before him. Like I said in summer of 2016 here, he doesn't answer to anyone or anything except maybe Melania and Ivanka. That's it. We need people who can't be bought. Obama? Bought out by Citibank in 2008 per wikileaks. Hillary? Bought out by Wall Street speech money and [insert superlong list of donors to clinton foundation here]. Do we need to talk about Biden, or Warren, or W Bush, or Mccain? They were all running for the same party bought and paid by globalist bankers.

Every politician is nepotist - Biden, Hillary, Bernie... if you are a politician you are participating in some type of nepotism since you have to sacrifice so much of your life and need the support of your family and friends to make it. Is that supposed to be a knock against Trump?

Trump is probably the best president to happen to the US for 50 years, yes. He's a repudiation to the nonsense politically correct disease that was overtaking this country. Heck you know we're going under when comedians can't even tell jokes anymore because everyone's so sensitive and offended. It's a joke. Jokes create thick skin which makes people tougher and more able to succeed in life. Jokes provide an escape from the seriousness of everyday life. The fact that Trump can shamelessly crap on PC culture with his humor and memes was unprecedented. Look at Don Lemon yesterday and his reaction to the Thanos meme. Guy takes himself way too seriously and reporting meme tweets as actual news is hilarious. Possibly why cnn has hit a 6 year low in ratings, but my point is that Trump can mock these people taking themselves way too seriously and that resonates.

We get it. You're butt-hurt you keep losing over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

BUT.... I'm sure.... NEXT TIME... you guys got this. Keep on keepin' on champ.
wtf are you in this thread? Dont answer me though, just tell yourself.

You use a lot of emotion, buzzwords, and namecalling, but you don't say anything or argue a factual point.

For example, job growth hasn't increased at any greater pace under Trump than it did during the prior administration. GDP growth hasn't increased at a faster rate either. Trump can be credited for not having caused a recession, but this economy was already in full swing 3-4 years before he took office. But if you know the numbers so well, then you must already know that.

And while Trump may have been anti-establishment in 2016 (debatable, especially in retrospect), he absolutely is the Establishment now. Like you said, look at how they fall in line to him now. That's because he's the Establishment.

And Tulsi and Yang aren't the Democrats' 'lightning in a bottle,' they're the candidates that Republicans, like yourself, are desperately hoping the Democrats run because you know they don't have a chance in hell. But if you can sow a little division, like you did with Bernie, then hopefully just enough Democrats in a few key states can stay home again so that your 47% can win. We already saw this movie, guy.

IMO technology made that possible, not the Nazis themselves. The Nazis weren't even the only ones committing such atrocities during WWII. Thankfully, technology can be used for both good and evil.

I have a theory that historical events repeat after there is no one left alive to remember them. Hard to learn a lesson you've never experienced.

How can we come together to help ourselves now?
Capitalism is still the best system until we can procure something similar to the Replicator in Star Trek. ie tech that can create most of the things humans need every day - food, shelter, clothing, water. We have a good start with a 3D printer, but we still aren't there. Are we going to create such a device via systems that don't reward competition? We might, but it will take hundreds and maybe thousands of years longer to get there. The most optimal path is to incentivise competition and reward innovation. Wealth redistribution does not do that at extreme levels. Look at how many people are fleeing blue states for red like NY/NJ/CA. They are failing due to excessive taxes and of course wealth disparity. As a result, less and less people who innovate and create want to invest in these states.

On a related note, one of my criticisms of Trump has been that he isn't investing in solar tech enough. We can colonize space with the right solar battery tech. That is just the beginning on our way to creating a Replicator-like machine.

"How can we come together?"

Short term: Immediately start by spending more of your time with family. Turn off email alerts on your phone (check once a day unless it's for biz) and only receive texts and calls from people who you need to hear from. Otherwise it can wait. Get off social media and stop comparing yourself to others. Reject hedonism (video games, movies, pr0n, etc) for family activities (road trips, walking outside or even better hiking, board games). That will get rid of a large bulk of your stress and make people more likely to be relaxed during their day to day interactions. Next, strengthen your body. Get rid of meat and dairy and especially fast food/processed food if possible. Start juicing raw fruits and veggies every day to provide micronutrients that you can never get on a traditional western diet (eg prevent most cancers and unnecessary sickness due to horrible immune systems). Exercise if you have any free time left over. Set hard limits on bedtime and set an alarm if you have to. Distill your own water since you'll save a ton of money on filters and know it's 99.9% pure. Grow your own food if you have the time and means. Do a 2-3 day fast to reboot your immune system since it's the only way we know that can naturally trigger stem cell regeneration. Build things with your hands like birdhouses, fences and do more things that you'd pay someone else to do (painting house, powerwashing, mowing the lawn, building computers, renovating a bathroom, etc). Create goals such as if you're in a job you don't like then make a direct plan to either start your own business or detail the exact job you want - there is no excuse to not have a job in an economy this good and starting a business is easier than people think. This will make the people healthy and happy again which eliminates a lot of unnecessary pain and suffering.

Long term: Reach out to people who have been brainwashed by MSM with lies. Give them hard facts that can refute what they perceive as reality. Tell them to reject hedonism for family. Push for capitalism but not crony capitalism nor extremely harmful capitalism that destroys communities (see Tucker Carlson's blurb on this where he slams a certain type of capitalism). Show people they are not the enemy because they breathe and bleed just like you do - invite someone with opposing political views for dinner. Push for innovations like solar battery tech to make people's lives better. Encourage more outdoor activities like community lunches or bingo or hiking or anything to get people in the community together and bonding.

Nobody will be "our salvation". Only you have the power to stop the harmful things in your life and on a grand scale, as people become happier/healthier, they will become less angry/disenchanted. The key is spreading this knowledge and hopefully I've helped someone with this post.

I do know the numbers - all time lows unemployment for hispanics, blacks. Wages are up. Yes GDP hasn't grown nor job growth but we are seeing all time market highs. My S&P fund last I checked a few weeks ago is up over 20% which is completely insane. We never had that with previous admins unless you go all the way back to the tech boom of 2000.

Trump has been embraced by the Republican establishment, but he forced their hand not the other way around, yup. They knew it's a losing battle to shun him which they tried to do in 2017.

Tulsi and Yang are the only candidates with new ideas. Biden - nope. Warren - nope. Bernie -nope. They're all proposing the same ideas from 2016 - increase your taxes because they know better than you what to do with it. May as well just run Hillary since she's the frontrunner now according to the latest Harris/Harvard poll. What's the point? Trump has gotten more things done for our economy than most Dems 2020 candidates have even proposed as new ideas. Should we go down the list? Improved border security with high tech fencing that can detect humans (self aware courtesy of ACoE), tax cut bill that incentivizes LLCs with a 20% pass through tax break, reworked NAFTA (USMCA) that was so good even Dems played ball, Mexico policing its borders for us with their troops, new China trade deal today where they stop stealing our ip, making NATO countries contribute more, removing excessive regulations so we can become the number one exporter of oil in the world... these were all credited to the Trump admin.

47%, lol. So are you saying that you think the coasts should dictate policy to everyone else? Get real, please don't tell me you're one of those abolish the electoral college people. Hard to have a normal conversation with extremists.

Lol.. a Trumper just lectured liberals on inclusion, unplugging, urban gardening, vegetarianism, DIY, and alternative forms of capitalism as though he came up with those ideas all by himself.

Dude, you should be preaching this stuff to your fellow Trumpers, and not to the liberals who have been preaching and living these ideas for decades.

I'm not the extremist in this discussion. For example, I don't want to abolish the electoral college. You wish I did so your extremism would have a counterpoint. Such as that you think that the people who live on the coasts should have policy dictated to them by everyone else.

And perhaps you don't understand what "growth rate" means? It is entirely possible, even likely, for unemployment to reach all-time lows, and markets to reach all-time highs, and yet the rates by which those figures change to remain unchanged.

And if you believed in new ideas, you wouldn't be a conservative, by definition.

Dude straight up said someone else will be "our salvation". I gave him a guide on how to be his own salvation. Whether you think it adheres to "liberals" is your own opinion. Farmers have remained unplugged and have been one with the earth forever. Vegetarianism is now embraced by staunch Republicans like Arnold. Like dude said, times change and I say if you don't adapt you will die out along with your ideas. I'm smart enough to adapt and my ideas will live on with through my kid while most liberals' ideas will die with them (ie childless). That's the cold reality.
