Ahhhh so thats what that means.

I keep thinking about how good I'll look once I shed a few pounds and add some muscle, talk about motivation that makes me want to do some pushups right now.
Don't. Recovery is 50% of the workout....people tend to forget this.

good advice, i have gained more excersising less lately, going for max weight and short workouts, i am not convinced that it is the best, it might have been the change that works for me...

I'll let you know later on...

When I was a bit younger and would overtrain one time I took like 20 days off of weights and when I went back did at least a dozen nasty hardcore sets for biceps. I could still feel the pain 6 days later (which is a damn long time for biceps) and about two days later literally could not extend my arm properly. The pain was unbelievable. I like a little muscle soreness because I feel nice and manly but this was insane.

i don't get it as bad as noobs, but i still get it, particularly with squats.

Yeah, but heavy squats are mean!

After the first five years, it went away, except with heavy leg days, i love them... yeah, i'm crazy... 😉

Heh, i know what you mean, but after a rest period, i find leg training to be the worst cause of DOMS, i mean, really, i have to walk without bending my knees to much...

If i do, the pain sets in and i fall...

Then you have arms and chest, but i have never had real bad DOMS in my back... wonder why... hmmm...

I hate pain too much to give myself terrible legworkouts these days. Even years later I ALWAYS get some chest soreness the next day and that's only with a 6 set workout. Lats I find hard to get sort but with dumbell pullovers do manage it sometimes. Shoulders are particularly hard.

When that last squat makes your legs shake and you know that is the FIRST of several sets, and after that comes leg presses, damn man, i have had tears in my eyes from the pain of deep squats... and i love THAT?

Yeah, forgot shoulders there but then again, they are involved in just about every movement, so... you do dumbell pullovers for back? i do them for the inner side of the pecs...

But i guess i am still just the macho lifter, i want it to hurt, real much, i want it to be painful... but i rearely get to that point these days, except for heavy squats... i love heavy squats and leg presses, most people hate them for the same reason i love them... hehe...

Hey thats awesome! You must have been a pro then!! I've done weightlifting as complement to my ice-hockey/martial arts training for 20 years now. It's more or less season based for me not a allaround year thing.

Yeah, i was one of the very few Swedish pro's out there, but really, i could never become a top contender like Andreas Cahling because i got too wide hips, not tall enough, and wouldn't do what it would take to get there...

Glad to meet another member of the iron game... 🙂

For 20 years, i bet you have put some muscle on those bones by now... 🙂

Tough it out! That's good pain! But if you really can't handle it, take some ibuprofen and stretch.

There have been recent studies that don't encourage the use of acetominophen or ibuprofen within 24 hours of a workout, as it will inhibit muscle growth...

Check it out: Link.

So maybe, if you take it every day of the week it might inhibit your growth factors with 10% and the growth factors involved are responsible for 1% the rest is all stimulus based...

So maybe i can use it to kill pain but if i use it at max dose all the time, i might gain about 2-4 grams of muscle less...

These latest studies were made by idiots...

yeah, i've heard about that recently as well. But the pain will go away after a couple of weeks of regularly working out anyways.

Should I work out if my muscles are still sore? My goal was to do upper body on Monday and Friday of this week, but I'm fairly certain that I'll still be sore tomorrow when I go back to the gym.

Also whats the best way to make sure that the left side of the body is just as strong as the right? I'm right handed and I can notice a slight difference in terms of strength on the right side of my body (bicepts, chest, etc..)

light exercise, with easy streching will be ok..if you feel that you can do weights choose light weights just to get the blood circulation going. that way tou will reduce the healing time for your recovery.

Use dumbells for your exercises or machines (something like Hammer Strength) that have independent movements for each side of the body.
