I think Dana White was a little emotional because of the television contract, and his fear that it didn't deliver for the tv audiences and bode well for future contracts. Ratings were excellent tho. Even given it was disappointing for viewers, I'd expect to see more of these on fox, perhaps 2 in an hour's timeframe next time.

I can understand him being emotional, but it came off pretty bad I thought. I had seen where the ratings were pretty damn good. I look forward to more free fights! I think they are talking about 90 minute shows with 3 fights.

so far the only complaint i have heard about it is that they should have had more then one fight. cut out some of the filler and hype. for an hour show they could have put in 2 fights.

not to mention having the guida fight would have shown how great MMA is. you have the big power punchers and the little guys with endless tanks going 100% all 3 rounds.

Yeah, I'm still not sure why they didnt show the main event right away then show the henderson/guida fight if time permitted. Dana always said they would show just the one, and made it seem as though fox wanted it that way. But I was reading where david hill (fox sports exec) was quoted saying something about dana making a tactical error with that. He was overall very pleased, as were just about everyone. But that kind of implies that it was ufc/dana who chose to do the one fight.

Who knows. I thought it was a great show, and I watched all the fights anyways on facebook. BTW, the quality of the facebook streams is INSANELY GOOD. I switched to the foxports.com stream at one point and it was nothing close to as good.

I think the main problem was that he shouldn't have been in the box in the first place...a ufc owner who set the fight up being on of the commentators?...dumb move...should have been a couple of fighters/analysts who wouldn't get all hissy regardless. Brock wasn't a bad choice because he's the type of person fox viewers can relate to (white, inbred 😛), but there should have been another credible commentator up there.

Yeah they could have come up with several fighters that wouldve filled in and done a good job, couture, bones, mir, florian, faber, anyone of them would've worked. Hell they couldve put Lorenzo up there, I think he at least would be more careful of what he was saying.

"HE LITERALLY HAS NO WEAKNESSES!!" How many times did Rogan say that? As long as you don't count "no chin" as a weakness, he's exactly right.

What a shame they didn't get the Guida-Bendo fight on Fox too.

After 30 minutes of talk and commercials, one 64 second fight where Dana's golden boy and Mexican cash machine gets KTFO...yeah not that great for the brand. I loved it though. 🙂

That wasn't his chin, I'd like to see you stay standing after taking a punch to the temple/behind your ear from JDS, or any heavyweight. He wasn't out until he lost his equilibrium(completely lost balance and very, very disorientating) and took a few punches on the ground.

It wasn't the best fight, but JDS came in and did exactly what a striker has to do to beat a wrestler. I'm pretty disappointed that after watching 30+ min of bullshit I didn't care about they only fought for about 1 min. But that's the nature of the game, some fights end early...

I completely agree - the facebook feed is awesome. I'll be using that to watch the prelims from now on (they usually have everything up to the PPV). It even looked good in full screen. Kudos to facebook.

Florian came to mind, but Couture would have been a solid choice as well imo.

A lot of Cain apologists here. "He took a shot behind the ear." Waaahhh!!
Call me crazy but I think the point is to hit someone as hard as you can when you are engaged in a cage match.

What's the actual point here?

I don't think anyone is disputing the legitimacy of the hit or the validity of the effect...it was a thunderous connection to pretty a vulnerable spot.

I don't know how someone could deliver a blow like that to the skull and not break their hand tho. 😀

Exactly. I just get the impression from some of the posters that it was a cheap shot/knockout.

I knew after a few exchanges that Cain was going to sleep that night.

I thought he might have even been able to survive it if he had more time, but jds hit him again in the exact same spot on the ground...no chance for a recovery after that. It was a 100% legit beatdown for the belt imo.

A) I agree that having Dana White there might have been a mistake in hindsight

B) I don't think Dana said anything on the air (didn't watch the post-fight press conference though) that he doesn't say after fights on TUF. He gives his honest opinion of how he saw the fight. I think the issue is that he shouldn't be doing that for a major event like this, especially with it being the first major MMA event on broadcast networks in a while.

C) From what I've read, the UFC wanted a second fight on Fox but Fox refused.

D) What the hell was with the NFL music?

E) I think the analysis of the whole Mexican fan thing is probably not far off. JDS seems like such a nice guy, though, that I have a hard time caring about him being less beneficial to the market of the sport overall

F) The foxsports site was weird. They were pimping the event all over the place but then it seemed kind of unintuitive how you actually could watch. Maybe I missed something obvious but it seemed weird that there wasn't a huge button on the page with the line-up. I clicked on videos and then saw it listed there.

It was a joke to have an hour long program that showed a single minute of actual fighting. It was absurd. That said, it worked perfectly with the Oregon-Stanford game, which was what everyone was at our house to watch anyway. Football goes to halftime, switch over to the fight, OH, KNOCKOUT, back to the football. In the end, it worked out pretty well.

If there hadn't been something on that I was more interested in, I would have been FURIOUS with the program. But it's free so you really can't complain too much.

Not what I was trying to do at all, it was a good shot. All I was saying is that it's damn hard/impossible to stay standing after getting hit like that. I was talking before the fights and said that as long as JDS can stay standing he'd win and he did...

Yeah; temple shots are brutal and hard to see. Cain was actually recovering surprisingly well for a moment then JDS landed another shot to the same area and that was it.

If it aint broke don't fix it, stick to PPV. Just put on good fights. We don't need any bullshit about getting into the Latino fan base etc. It shouldn't be about race, it should be about quality fights no matter what they are. Don't let greed turn this sport into boxing.

We didn't learn anything new about either fighter in this fight. We knew JDS hits hard, fast and can finish anyone in the 1st. The fight was 64 seconds, everyone trying to break it down is stupid. Most title fights the entire first 5minutes is spent finding your range and feeling your opponent out.

Cain did nothing wrong, he got caught thats it. JDS did what he does best.

haha, except squaring up against jds without expecting bombs to drop...a slight oversight. 😀

I'm pretty sure Cain knew JDS has bombs for hands. It's folly to think he didn't know this and it's a fight, punches and kicks are exchanged all the time and people get put to sleep regardless of how prepared they are.

Cain couldn't have just punched once and shot for an immediate take down without knowing his range or getting an idea of JDS's speed or reactions to his own punches. JDS has shown outstanding hips and damn near impossble to get down, and he's spend like a total of 5s on the mat on his back. There's a reason for that and why an ill fated take down attempt wouldn't be recommended.

D) That was hilarious. My wife heard the music and came in thinking it was football, she was just as surprised as I was.

F) I agree, and the feed was terrible quality - which doesn't make sense. Especially since the feed on facebook was phenomenal.

I disagree. I got to see all these fights for free online and on Fox. More Fox fights!

If you enjoy watching on a computer monitor over a big TV, more power to you. I go watch them at a sports bar for free, get to hang out with friends and just have a good night out.
