I also don't think it is a forgone conclusion that McGregor has a weak ground game. He hasn't really been tested on the ground.

MMA fans have always been pretty divided about McGregor, with a vocal contingent calling him GOAT from his first MMA fight and another group saying that he is overrated. Well, as his opponents got tougher and tougher and he continued defeating them in devastating fashion the "overrated" brigade got quieter and quieter.

I think if you look at his resume it is one of the most impressive in the UFC. He has pretty much dominated all opponents, whether they were journeymen or top fighters like Mendes and Aldo. I think people underestimate him because his attitude verus his performance creates a disconnect - people just aren't used to somebody with so much braggadocio being so skilled.

TLDR: Anyone who isn't a McGregor fan is stupid.

except that IF you look at the UFC's top fighters most have a wrestling background. It has been shown a very good wrestler can take down a pure striker at will.

McGregor is a different beast though. he is so fast and accurate he punishes people before they can get a hold of him. Though his only 2 losses have been when it gets to the ground.

It should be a hell of afight. Not sure who is going to win that one. but RDA is a great fighter too.

pretty much it. He has gotten older and off the juice. it show's, his speed is a lot slower and his power is down.

I never thought bisping would win against AS. Though i do think if AS stayed aggressive and not clown around and stay on the fence he would have won.

Yea i thought so too. I think if Anderson wanted to dominate him, he could have. He dicked around too much.

I think its more a combination of age, ring rust, and mentally he might not have been over the Weidman fights. He got KO'd and then broke his shin in two. In the Bisping fight he threw very few leg kicks, and hardly any low that could be checked. I kinda think he was trying to prove to himself that he could still be the old Silva by being elusive and still take shots, so he put himself in more "danger" than was actually there. He did get knocked down twice, but as the fight went on he got better and better. If he continues to fight he'll be close to what he was, but not as dominant because he's simply older. And before he didnt have guys like Rockhold, Weidman, Mousasi, Jacare or Romero to deal. Look at his previous 10 opponents prior to the Weidman fight and compare them to the current top 10. The division is vastly better now. Heck, Leites fought AS for the title and even though he's a better fighter now, he's barely top ten.

just saw the fight.
the announcer was correct.. AS was not fighting to win points.
he deserved the loss for clowning around.

he put all he eggs in one basket in the surprise win that he usually does, and failed this time.

he should have quit after the diaz fight.
he was caught doing illegal.
he should have retired to preserve he legacy.

now he's becoming one of those pathetic fighters that people will say should have retired long ago.

He looked good to me. Sure he fought in his way but that was a entertaining fight. Who cares if he lost? That doesn't change what he has done. Everyone gets old. Everyone dies.
 
I don't get the whole 'retire to preserve legacy' argument. In other words, accept less pay (if any) and have less fun, just so someone else can feel better about you.
 
The life of a fighter is your body breaks and is less then it was. Even Conor will be here at some point. Do you stop working? Maybe. Maybe not.

There's definitely a time for everyone to quit, but people who have put in a lifetime of hard work into a sport really don't need yappy chihuahua's who haven't done anything for the sport other than steal a stream when it's fight night nipping at their heals suggesting they should hang it up because it will look better to them in their own myopic eyes.

(Not to say that I haven't been that chahuahua, but sometimes its just fun to make a good argument even if I don't stand behind it all the time. 😛)

do like the Denver superbowl winning quarterbacks and retire on top is the best way, I think.

don't diminish your legacy into a laughing stock
 
We must of been watching a different fight. Silva looked fucking good in there and bispings face got worked. It was an exciting weird fight and I'm glad I watched it. I don't see him being a laughing stock at all.
 
I haven't seen the fight but wish I could find a video of it. Chances are, if Silva was loafing it on the cage in the 4th, he was likely gassed and trying to gather for a strong finish. All I know though is Sonnen picked Bisping before the fight.

Could be sooner than expected with Connor. He was seriously considering ending MMA right before White gave him his first UFC shot. He is very aware of the toll and risks involved, apparently one of his Irish mates got messed up permanently doing MMA and Connor doesn't want to go out like that.

A couple more Chad Mendes like fights and I'll bet we'll hear him talking retirement. Bright flames don't burn too long, right? I see him wanting to use the door, not be shown the door.

DC has never really in great shape. For a Olympic level wrestler he just never looked it. but damn could he wrestle.
