It wasn't 6 or 7. It was about 5. And although the first was pretty hard, the last 4 were not cutting him or anything like that. I continue to think it was a bad stoppage.

last fight they let him go three rounds worth of unanswered punches. maybe he saw this headed the same direction.

Chuck vs Silva, what everyone wanted to see. Pride vs UFC.

I'd rather see a rematch between Tito Ortiz and Wanderlei Silva, and a rematch between Chuck Liddel and Quinton Jackson.

who is the ref to predict that though? w/e happened to a come back? thats like saying who ever gets off to the best start wins by default... whats the point of racing the 800 meters if who ever wins the first 200 gets it?

Shamrock pulled the same crap with Sakuraba. If you can't defend yourself coherently, the refree will stop it. Great...Shamrock going to complain for 3rd match now.

I'm just so let down by the night overall...watching the Pride GP in Japanese is much more filling 😀

That Arlovski match really pissed me off...I've liked him as a fighter for a while, but being smart is one thing...leaving a fight like that is another. Worthless. And to think the two undercard matches that weren't televised were the ones with a KO and submission. And that heavyweight fight with Mir was ridiculous.

Feel the same here. $40 pissed away...

ARRRGH WHAT A CRAPPY FIGHT. Both the Ortiz vs. Shamrock and Arlovski vs. Silvia fights sucked the BIG ONE.

bad

early stoppage and a hw fight that went the distance... 🙁

burkman/neer fight was good, stevenson fight was...the bloodiest thing i have ever seen in the octagon.

most entertaining: dana white "i know you're all pissed..." and then silva coming up.

Tito would have won anyway but they stopped it way too early. The main event pissed me off the most. I can't believe both them goons decided to go for jab fest instead of actually fighting like they typically do. So boring. I feel bad for anyone who paid 40 dollars for the event. We all chipped in so it came out to be about 5 dollars, and I still feel ripped off.

In the UFC 61 co-featured bout, it may be safe to say that the feud between Tito Ortiz and Ken Shamrock is far from over as Ortiz made it two in a row over his longtime rival, stopping the UFC hall of famer with a series of forearm strikes just 1:18 into the first round.

The bout was not without its share of controversy though, as referee Herb Dean?s stoppage drew loud boos from the capacity crowd and prompted the Las Vegas police to enter the Octagon to keep an irate Shamrock from getting at Ortiz.

?Look at my face,? said Shamrock, 26-11-2 who stated his case to fans after storming from the Octagon. ?See, no marks.?

But despite the protests, there was little doubt that the stoppage was just, after Ortiz landed five consecutive forearms on the head of Shamrock, who was not defending himself.

?I was just doing my job, dropping elbows,? said Ortiz, 15-4, the former UFC light heavyweight champion. ?He wasn?t responding or defending himself and Herb Dean did his job.?

Shamrock looked to get the job done himself as he came out throwing heavy punches as he bulled Ortiz to the fence. But once Ortiz got his bearings, he picked Shamrock up and slammed him to the mat, leading to the fight ending series of strikes.

Ortiz stopped Shamrock in three rounds in their first meeting on November 22, 2002.

the ref is the person keeping shamrock from being killed. i've watched the fight a few times this morning and 1) shamrock wasn't protecting himself and 2) if ortiz had kept landing those elbows he could have seriously done some damage to ken. it almost looked like he was dazed after the first blow landed. i certainly would have rather seen ortiz beat shamrock some more, but the ref is there to protect the fighters. this isn't some new ref either, this guy is one of the better (best?) ufc refs. hell at the very end it almost looked like shamrock was cowering a bit.

YES I KNOW KEN SHAMROCK COULD BEAT ME UP. that isn't the point.

anyway.

Shamrock had no business being in the ring with Ortiz. He's shot as a UFC fighter. After watching the first match between them I had no doubt that this fight would suck.

tell ken that. i think he's still living in the wwe where his wins were scripted. i seriously think the guy has just taken too many blows to the head at this point and he's lost a little bit of his touch with reality. i guess we'll see ken vs tito 3. at this point i guess it's just becoming an easy payday for ortiz.

That's a possibility. I don't think age has much to do with it, I think it's the constant brain trauma which really washes some fighters out.

Look at Muhammed Ali, he's old but not that old, but he's out in space somewhere.

That was horrible call by Herb. Ken was taking some elbows, but in no way was he out of it yet.

I absolutely agree. Ken can take some major hits and keep going. He was NOT out, nor was the fight ready to be called. Terrible call.

Looks like Ken was in great shape, came out swinging. Tito is an excellent wrestler, took Ken down pretty easily and was controlling him. He got in some good elbows, which wouldn't really end a fight, and certainly wouldn't have been the cause of a stoppage in earlier UFC bouts. They called this fight off way prematurely. I can't say that Ken was in a good position or that he would have won, but at least give them a chance to fight. That was just too early to be definitive.
