If Islam overtakes western civilization, and I believe that is a very real possibility in the next 100 to 200 years, you can kiss women's rights, gay rights, free speech, environmentalism, conservation, the amassed cultural record of all western civilization's achievements, religious freedom, women's right to choose, good movies, violent video games, the space program and a million other awesome things goodbye. Never to be seen again for a thousand years at least, if we're lucky. And with the fallen western civilization as an example and "warning" in their minds, the Islamic world will be all the more on guard for letting such forces of equality ever get off the ground again.

The time to choose is now, do we stand by the western cultural tradition that has given this world EVERY thing worth a fuck that it has? Or do we let it's "crowning" achievement be a citizenry so absolutely neutered, wussified, and blinded that the civilization effectively commits suicide?

Stop immigration from the 12th century to modern day Europe and the USA.

More babies from the western world, cease all AID to the third world.

Let's not overdramatize the situation.

Islam has caught on because of the Spartanness of its aesthetics, which just happens to neatly fit with the vast majority of its adherents, who are incredibly poor. As those people rise out of poverty they largely abandon it, just like religion people in Western societies now mostly just pay lip service to their religions. It becomes more of a social club than a movement.

Extremist Islam goes even further in demanding a return to the Bronze Age. Fortunately, nobody who has enjoyed the technology and freedom of the modern world will actually choose to go down that path, save the Bin Laden type of sociopaths. It'll dissipate just like every other religion has when faced with an educated, wealthy populace.

By the way, how did the Embassy security force allow them to take the flag? What a disgrace.

Probably orders from those in charge at the embassy. Apparently some spokesman there apologized for the "us" having provoked the attack, and Hillary went ballistic and gave them hell in a public statement. Privately I think they will wish thats where they were.

I hope Obama gives a clear condemnation without apologizing for a private citizens actions.

Sometimes a flag is just a flag and isn't worth lives being put at risk. Yeah, it looks good when you're dead, but then you're dead.

The embassy is considered sovereign US soil.

Your mentality about the flag is fucked up. That flag symbolizes our freedoms that we enjoy. Sometimes a book is just a book or a cartoon is just a cartoon, but we already know how that turns out when you offend them...

That doesn't strike me as an apology, but more as a statement that these Egyptian people are wrong for doing what they're doing.

Then there really was no need to include this part, which is an apology:

"The United States deplores any intentional effort to denigrate the religious beliefs of others. Our commitment to religious tolerance goes back to the very beginning of our nation."

Your embassy was just assaulted and your flag disgraced, it's really not the time to apologize. That is a sign of weakness and of being at fault.

It would have been nice if you quoted everything they said.

I quoted exactly what was on MSN.com when I logged out of Hotmail, and clicked on the article. It's nice she ended it like that, but, she never should have apologized. She should have made a statement more along the lines of assaults on our embassies will not be tolerated, please protest peacefully.

And now we have Libya...I wonder if they'll apologize again...

Chuck

Whatever. I've been on the ground in these countries. An embassy may be considered sovereign soil but there isn't much defense going on. A lot of the protection is done by the host country, not the "sovereign". So, yeah, take that sovereign bullshit and shove it where the sun doesn't shine. Like I said, sometimes a fight just isn't worth it. It's no different from an away football team getting into an altercation with the audience of the home team. That fucking audience can overwhelm security and kill everyone of those football players if things really got out of hand, no matter how big the players are. Sometimes, the odds are really stacked against you and you have to make shrewd choices.

There are pictures of the Ambassador being dragged through the streets and smothered to death in Egypt. A US Marine FAST (Fleet Anti-terrorism Security Team) has been dispatched to Libya.

I can't believe the SoS and PoTUS are apologizing\rationalizing the behavior of these animals. The Carter comparisons are already being drawn. The problem is that Romney is no Reagan.

The understanding is the host country provides the security outside the walls.
that allows face saving and reduces the incidental anti-country feelings (no matter what country).

Because the host provides security; they are also expected to prevent incidents like this from happening.

to play nice; the US pulled everyone out; that was an action that was not required and also showed weakness.
It shows that the US is unable to defend it's property again (aka Iran)
It also shows that other countries can push the US around.

Countries that knowing allow such are in violation of international diplomatic agreements.

Egypt did not have security forces preventing the protesters or the scaling of the walls; they are in cahoots.

Verbal messages do not cut it; cut the aid for a period of time.
Same goes with Libya.

Of course to anyone who is not an Islamaphobe, it would appear like those Muslims are trying to help the guy
And smothered to death translates into smoke inhalation

Pics are somewhat graphic

Can you show me a link to those pictures which would support this specific claim? So far none of the pictures I have seen have made it clear if the ambassador was for instance being carried away from the wreckage of a car or something like what you are currently claiming.

Edit: As noted the photos don't appear to actually support your claim.

Cut aid and pull out all staff. There needs to be a diplomatic time out for these people.

Idiots! I kept warning about this kind of stuff and very few people here believed me, instead they called me an Islamophobe, now look what you caused, now it happened and these cowards run away and pretend they never said anything. Shame on you

The photos don't support any contention. The point not challenged is that the protesters actions are a proximate cause to his death. How deliberate they were in bring it about remains for the autopsy. Now were the other deaths coincidental too?

I was going let the film thing slide, but now one of the people involved in making the film said he expected something like this to happen:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/huff-wires/20120912/us-egypt-filmmaker/

"We went into this knowing this was probably going to happen," Klein said.

Based on what i've read, the filmmaker is an Israeli nationalist trying to create havok in order to help Israel gain more political leverage against the Muslim world through the US.

Wow, all involved in the film should be arrested on murder charges. Thats fucking insane if true.

Sure, punish the guys exercising their freedom of speech, not the people who actually committed the murders.

He wasn't merely exercising his freedom of speech, this wasn't an honest film picking apart the flaws of Islam, the whole point of the film was to incite violence and help Israel gain additional political leverage.

You rightwing extremists and Jihadists deserve each other. It seems you both benefit from each other's insanity.

I didnt know all right wingers were insane :\

So you are saying it is okay for muslims to get riled up over muhammad cartoons or quran burnings but not okay for the us to get pissed over the burning of a US flag...

Does your hypocrisy ever end???

So what? An Inconvenient Truth wasn't an honest film explaining Global Warming, the whole point of the film was to set up a market for carbon credits and the whole green industry.

Free speech is free speech. Abandoning it on account of a bunch of savages that can't take criticism like a civilize person is ludicrous.

I hardly think I'm a right wing extremist. I'm an atheist and a moderate. I just have enough sense to know how Islam behaves when it has power over others.

Your sig isn't an attempt to pick apart the flaws of republicans, the whole point is to piss people off.

HIS INTENT WAS TO INCITE VIOLENCE FOR POLITICAL GAIN ON BEHALF OF ANOTHER FOREIGN COUNTRY. Free Speech doesn't mean freedom from Condemnation you idiot. And an 'inconvenient truth' was a helluva lot more honest than this film and didn't kill anyone.

You know what buddy, FUCK YOU AND YOUR ISLAMOPHOBIC ASS.

The protesters in Egypt did very little other than make noise and destroy a flag. Big deal.

I don't fear them and I certainly don't fear you.
