Most drivers don't even pay attention to bikes. Riding here in the Bay Area can be crazy. It's too bad these gentlemen were at the wrong place at the wrong time & it's also too bad she doesn't know how to drive.

It sucks that most motorcycle related deaths are caused by the driver's negligence.

RIP

well, I wouldn't be the one without teeth is some wannabe biker tagged my car.

just sayin.

You hittin' the bottle early today Gramps?

Oh, and just out of curiousity...what makes a biker a real biker and not just a wannabe? Not that I have any aspirations of becoming a "real biker" anyway, at least not by your definition. Still, I'd love to hear your definition Gramps. Humor me.

I rode the motorcycle in to work again today and saw a few people on the freeway texting or chatting on their cell phones. I want to ride up next to them, bash in a side window or take off a mirror and point to the road ahead. Better yet, if I could rip that fucking phone out of their grubby paws I'd just heave it at the nearest concrete barrier at 60mph.

I'll buy you a crowbar to start smashing windows.

Ok. Girl is stupid for not yielding and obeying the traffic laws, but this is a STUPPPPIIIIIIDDDDD design.

Any engineer with half a brain should have realized that if someone didn't follow that, you'd end up with 2 cars colliding head on (i.e. at least speed limit x2). The following are some tried and accepted means to calm traffic: narrow the lanes with pavement markings, make the road curve, speed humps, stop sign, and speed limit (kinda?). This one is pretty freaking tough love.

I'd be surprised if no one files a lawsuit against the highway department.

Not really...working from home, but just finished up some network diagrams...after grocery shopping the beer will be on.

A real biker would be pretty much 100% opposite of you. Real bikers don't whine.

the bitch should be in jail.

Drivers like the women are why i don't ride anymore. i rode for around 20 years. the last few years i rode i had more close calls because people don't fucking pay attention. they are talking on phones, texting or they just don't see motorcycles. i have had people look directly at me and STILL pull in front of me.

I was run off the road by a idiot in a truck. he looked (i swear) at me and still pulled in front. i managed to avoid hitting him but went in the grass/ditch. It happened in front of a cop who pulled him over. i stopped behind the cop and started yelling the guy. he just didn't see me.

ill still take an airbag to the chest over a steering wheel to the face.

I've taken a steering wheel to my face. I was wearing my seat belt so I hit just hard enough to split my skin (skull showing) at one of my eyebrows. That was in a head-on crash at freeway speeds.

Sometimes I think thats its not that drivers don't see motorcycles, its that their brain just doesn't respect it on some subconscious level.

Maybe that's it?

yeah, we need the old day biker gangs to come back and put some oily fear into regular drivers. i just hope they dont call em cagers like the douche you quoted, their evilness would be invalidated by their smug shitheadedness.

Screw you.

I'm inclined to call her stupid but motorcyclists can be hard to see during the day. And again, WTF kind of stupid ass road design is that where you're forced to play chicken???!

Driver negligence is bad no matter what. But when you get on that bike, you take the risk that 9/10 other vehicles on the road are multiple times larger than yours and have an order of magnitude greater protection from collision. If that's worth it to you, cool. But YOU take that risk, knowing the environment and your fellow drivers.

In FL, if there is an accident between a motorcycle and other vehicle, the other vehicle is almost entirely guaranteed to be found at fault, NO MATTER WHAT. And motorcyclists aren't required to even have insurance. WTF?

Then again, I think if you knowingly engage in inordinately risky behaviors, you should be solely responsible for the outcome, e.g. health insurance. Why should the state pay for years so you can rehab from being a near vegetable because you chose to ride a 500 lb crotch rocket amongst 4000 lb metal cages? Same goes for smoking, doing drugs, or getting pregnant when you're on welfare.

But hey, that's just my opinion ;)

screw the driver, the people who approved of that road hazard need to be in jail for the number of accidents that it has caused

Possibly... or she may have hit another car, and the occupants might have had a chance, rather than ploughing into a pair of motorcyclists.

The thing is people are retards and don't pay attention. I just don't get how some people can be so blasé about driving over a ton of metal at high speed... so many people seem to treat and think of cars as appliances and driving as their god given right nowadays, rather than as an important skill that requires work and your utmost attention :(

Agreed. People forget how much damage a car can cause. Don't know what to say about the poor souls who died. Rest in peace.

I say take away her license or put her in jail for a bit.

I always wondered where the Can Am riders fit it. You some half-cager/half-biker incarnation?

Heh... No.. I'm a biker who screwed up their knee in 2002 after a bike accident. I can still ride two wheels, but for a heavy touring bike in stop and go, the knee sometimes complains. The Spyder was attractive for that reason, but also because with my tour bags, it can carry far more than any other 2 wheeled touring bike I've found.

I spend 2-3 weeks at a time away from home on it, and it is nice to hold enough for when even the wife does a weekend run with me.

So... I find it funny how other bikers perceive the can ams. They just don't accept them as a viable alternative. I understand part of that, but riding is riding. I still ride 2 wheels, but the Spyder is a different sensation, and an even more physical ride in the twisties. I can't keep up with a sport bike in the twisties, but I can outrun pretty mush anything else.

can't trust anybody but yourself... that's why you put a cage around you. :D It's kind of a life-threatening decision. It matters because you have loved ones.

Don't overestimate the value of your life. The world was here before you, it will be here after you're gone. Face it, you just aren't that important...none of us are.

There are apparently people out there who won't see you regardless of your lights being on...

RIP Andrew and Wayne :rose;
Sucks but that's the way it goes. At the swimming pool near my house, some stupid retard asshole thought it was a good idea to put 4 foot tall shrubs on the corners so it's impossible to see oncoming side traffic. It's so obstructive that there's absolutely no way to make a left turn safely.
Also happens in winter when snow is pushed into 4 foot piles along the sides of the road. Only the tops of cars can be seen. Things like vans and trucks are easy to see from a mile away, but a smart car could be right there and you'd have no idea it was there because it can't be seen.

And that's a good reason to risk life & limb every time you go out? How asinine.

The thrill of the ride. The visceral experience. The raw speed. Becoming "one with the road." Those are reasons, though still not great ones, to ride and risk what you risk. But because you are unimportant? I didn't know you were that much of a dumbass.

Way to take what I said out of context retard.

Everyone on here touts the safety of their little cages like fairies all scared to go out in the big dangerous world. Bunch of pansies. Do something because you love it...don't rag on others for doing it because you're too fucking scared.

If I die on a motorcycle be happy for me. At least I had the balls to do something I always wanted to do and I enjoyed it.
