Twitter labeled Trump tweets with a fact check for the first time..

The thing is, this EO is meaningless without the appropriate enforcement actions from the FCC, DoBarr and state AGs. So it’s a meaningless piece of paper that will certainly scare mainstream media and excite the base, and that’s precisely the intended effect.

You may see hints of cooperation from Barr (he declares “we’re looking into [insert specific action here]”) but Pai wouldn’t dare upset his Big Media/Tech overlords and red state AGs won’t waste their money going after Big Tech.

Scared? Hardly. They're acting like a school of sharks that smell blood.

Trump is literally the only person in the world they haven't done anything about until now. Twitter has removed posts of various world leaders in the past.
Ah, didnt know that. Was never a twitter follower of anyone myself, hence my ignorance.

Twitter would never have HAD to do this with any other President or Candidate.
No one expected a a buffoon of such magnitude would have ever elected to a "grown up job" such as President.

Yeah that person seems to be ignoring that its because of Turmp's rampant outright lies and spreading conspiracy garbage (that he absolutely knows isn't true since he's walked back a shitload of it after getting called out for it) that Twitter was basically forced into doing this. Well that and the use of bots to spread disinformation, which just happen to nearly constantly be trying to support various shit that Turmp does as well in an attempt to amplify and reinforce the lies.

Trump’s new executive order, if enforced through FCC, Justice and State AGs, will give the ACLU the freedom to sue Gab and 4chan and others right out of existence for their “anti-liberal” bias. Hey, isn’t the Fox News website comments section essentially a social media platform???

Yeah I think they're gonna regret trying to push this. And Pai has to be shitting bricks right now as he has to know that its going to massively blow up in his face. That's if he lasts more than week if he doesn't try to do Turmp's every bidding. My guess is after courts slap the shit out of this, or after they start facing hundreds of lawsuits that they'll try to disband the FCC altogether (which is something Republicans have mentioned a time or two over the past decade).

The other irony is that if the social media companies don't comply, their only real recourse for punishing them would be fines that are gonna force the lawsuits more than anything or likely ban/block them, which isn't what Turmp actually wants, as then he couldn't Tweet. So then they'll lean on ISPs and that's not going to end well for them either.

This is gonna push a lot of people to use Chinese controlled social media apps too.

Sorry I don't agree at all. Pai serves ISPs. I'm pretty sure he's called for regulating social media companies instead of ISPs for instance.

His EO doesn't mean anything. Twitter is a private company and doesn't work for Donald Trump. I would personally tell Trump to politely go fuck himself and then delete his account.

FOREST FOR THE TREES... FOREST FOR THE TREES

Stand back and look at what is really going on....
You have a little smug rich guy i.e. Mark Zuckerberg on Fox News giving "HIS" opinions and directing how social media "should operate". Well.... just keep in mind WHO this Mark Zuckerberg guy really is. Mark Zuckerberg is nothing more than A COMPUTER PROGRAMMER. Nothing more, nothing less. So.... how many computer programmers DO YOU KNOW that you would take advice from? Especially when that advice is coming from a person that knows nothing more about the subject than would a store clerk working at the local 7-11 ???

Again, remember who Mark Zuckerberg is....
Mark Zuckerberg created a website from data that Mark Zuckerberg himself hacked and stole only for college guys to pit female against female by looks and boob size.
Yes, THAT IS the extent of Mark Zuckerberg. 🙄

Mark Zuckerberg, the little worm that in very much the same as Donald Trump, used and uses the very worst of society for profit and gain.

Botton line... Mark Zuckerberg is a big nothing.
What Mark Zuckerberg says means nothing.
The words of Mark Zuckerberg carry absolutely no weight.
Mark Zuckerberg is nothing more than a rich celebrity, and as with all rich celebrities out there, YOU know as much as they do when it comes to.... well, when it comes to knowing ANYTHING.

So.... forget Mark Zuckerberg and absolutely forget everything that Mark Zuckerberg has to say. Mark Zuckerberg is nothing more than A DAMN COMPUTER PROGRAMMER for gads sake.....

Mark Zuckerberg is an idiot, and like with 99.99% of all rich celebrity idiots out there including the number one rich celebrity idiots of all time DONALD TRUMP, rich celebrity idiots have no special heaven sent enlightenment that would make them any better or smarter than YOU.

Mark Zuckerberg was a poor computer programmer working his way through college, and he lucked out. The ONLY advice worth listening to from Mark Zuckerberg would be on the merits of computer programming and that is it. Maybe.....

I just saw this pointed out and this is kind of funny. COVID-19 sweeps over the country and kills 100,000+ Americans and the government flails incompetently and sluggishly. Someone makes Trump look bad though? It swings into action!

I think people shouldn't miss the true purpose, which is to warn tech companies that unless they support the current regime he will do what he can to make their lives difficult.

It's a level of corruption that would have been unimaginable just a few years back but..well..here we are.

I think there is some legitimate concern with this action. It seems very targeted and introduces a lot of potential for abuse against all sorts of persons for a whole variety of reasons.
There was already a push from the left to regulate these platforms to some degree for their editorializing via newsfeeds, topic trends, etc. An overt action like this certainly strengthens the claim that it is necessary.

No, the complaints from the left were about more about targeted ads and discrimination, lies, and hate speech and them enabling people spreading of that stuff. It was the right wingers that were claiming that other shit. They've been claiming they're being victimized and persecuted by these companies and demanding action which led to Congress literally subpoenaing them to answer for it (while the left wanted them to answer for the issues I mentioned in the first sentence), wherein right wing media shitheads did stuff like scream in the face of Republican Congressmen. That happened after the right wingers tried and failed to create their own social media platforms. The free market told them to eat bags of dicks and they didn't like it so now they're trying to use the government to force social media to spread their rhetoric which includes outright lies and hate speech.

Er, it does? How do you figure?

Twitter, just like Facebook, has spent most of their time not enforcing their own ToS. So when they even try to, people flip the fuck out.
And remember, the more a platform is used the more it's worth in ad revenue. I'd wager that Twitter would love to dump Trump off the platform entirely but that would mean a loss in revenue. Jesus it would be so cool and so LOL to the cheeto banned, the rage-fest would be most entertaining.

Sure thing, but it's all about getting / keeping active members for that reason, even if they are bots lol

There is another concern though. That is that these platforms are so large and influential that they should be considered as Public Property and given similar status to Phone Systems or even the Internet itself. IOW, they shouldn't be considered part of some Private Enterprise and People using it should have something akin to Constitutional Rights in the usage of them. That would require a lot of Legal changes though.

Regardless, we should not be so eager to embrace this. As easily as this was applied to Trump, similarly they can be applied to anyone. Not only does the Private Entity have the choice of whom to target, but they also have the choice of what to target them with.

They could claim that to avoid possibly violating Trump's rights by adding in a fact-checker they would eliminate him as a member, then, just like Alex Jones, he could post his crap-fest from his own server, win/win.

If the President can’t be held to a higher standard, why bother?

The problem with that reasoning is that Twitter didn't censor Trump at all. His free speech is still there. They just called him a fear monger & a liar, which he demonstrable is in the tweets they flagged. He's trying to destroy our faith in the electoral process & in democracy itself. It's despicable. Twitter was right to call him on it. .

Like I said, they having that power can be abused and likely will be. Just be cautious about it.

So as of right now there has been no flagging of his new batshit tweets stating the same bs plus zuckercunt has gone full redpill.
