Turkey Shoots Down Russian Warplane Near Border With Syria

Serious question, can the Turks defend the Turkmen with their own fighters within the bounds of international law? Not talking about who could beat who or what defenses might be in place, just questioning if they have the "jurisdiction" or whatever you want to call it.

Well if the Turkmen retreat into Turkey then they can.

Turkey is picking a war with Russia for NATO to fight. Could escalate very quickly if NATO doesn't muzzle that dog.

I'd be curious how this gets spinned.

Aren't the terms of the NATO treaty that the alliance comes to the defense of any attacked? But by all accounts this was a trespass, not an attack by Russia.

I'm not saying who's in the right, but this wasn't as though the opposite happened and Russia blew a Turkish jet out of the sky...

Now Russians will be on hair trigger flying sorties with fighter jet escorts, so stay tuned.

Wait, we are supposed to be on Russia's side now and fuck over Turkey for the downing of one of Russia's planes? Man this geopolitical shit gets confusing.

Tell me about it.

I saw screw it and eat all the turkey you can in the next few days and maybe it will fix things.

I'm still curious as to if the Turkey will get pardoned at the White House this year...

Maybe we need to start building F-16T Fighting Turkeys.

Sorry, nuff of that...

Looks to me like they just implemented a de-facto no-fly zone with a big chip on their shoulder.

Erdogan is an asshole though. I expect news of a downed F-16 that wandered across the Syrian border in the next few days.

Russia Deploys Warship Off Syrian Coast To "Destroy Any Threats To Russian Planes"

...the steps announced by Russian top brass as the following:Three steps as announced by top brass:

-Each and every strike groups’ operation is to be carried out under the guise of fighter jets
-Air defense to be boosted with the deployment of Moskva guided missile cruiser off Latakia coast with an aim to destroy any target that may pose danger
-Military contacts with Turkey to be suspended

And you gotta love this :

Turkey buzzes weakened Greece
In growing numbers Ankara’s fighter jets test Greek territorial claims.

On July 15, six Turkish fighters crossed into Greek airspace 20 times. Their visit followed aerial intrusions by Turkish military helicopters the week before. After a several years of declining numbers, Turkish air incursions into territory claimed by Greece are soaring, and so are the resulting aerial confrontations with the Hellenic Air Force.

Turkey has absolutely no business being in NATO. Having nutcases like Erdogan in such an alliance is the stuff world wars are made of.

I'm not really sure what Turkish chicks look like but with the information I currently have, I'd rather be eating Russian thank you very much. 😛

I know what they look like, having lived in Turkey for 15 months, and yeah sticking to Russian is a good idea.

Turning out to be a real life Abdul Abulbul Amir... 😀 interesting it will be to see it all ends...

Putin after conquering Crimea though he was on the top of the world. Now that reality slapped him the face, not once, not twice, but third time, lets see if he he really had balls of steel or chickens out...

They are as good of a source as any. Everybody lies to fit their agenda.

Source.

from the link:

'According to messages of the Turkish mass media in Syria S-400 which officially there isn’t present joined (the analog by the ships can?) also conducts all military fighters of Turkey near border with Syria.
The order wasn’t to force down meanwhile, but it can arrive in any second as soon as Russia considers that the Turkish fighters crossed the Syrian border for 5-10 seconds.
Specifically English-speaking heading: A Turkish jet just obtained an appointment with Russian S-400 as a live target.
No more detailed information is present so far, but most likely Russia really activated systems of Air Defence on the Turkish targets to secure search mission. At the moment it is possible to note that the Air Force of Turkey is considered as hostile, so any calling a zone of defeat will be considered as attack and planes of Turkey will shoot down.'

can someone translate this into english or french? even dutch would do

Either that or Turkey is going to go Wild Weasel on that thing, which would really tick Putin off 😛

My moneys on nothing happening after this. Turkey will be coerced by NATO to make some sort of concession to Russia and in exchange Russia will promise to be more careful in territory violations and that'll be the end of it.

I'd like to see NATO kick them out all together myself.

Considering everything going on in the area, I doubt will be the end of it.

They will probably smooth it over for the time being at any rate.

I don't think so. Because the shoot down wasn't fundamentally over territory violation, it was over Russians bombing the crap out of Turkmen fighting Assad in Turkey's back yard.
Turkey was clearly waiting for any excuse to strike out at Russia, and maybe they got one, but they wanted to do it anyways.
And Russia won't bomb the Turkmen rebels any less after this, it will probably go full Grozny on them. So Turkey will have to sit there and watch its allies and historical kin destroyed, or it will have to keep striking out at Russia.

Can NATO kick Turkey out?

Somehow I do not see it happening in reality. Would take a lot of reverse engineering.

They might need to take a big coffee break though.

"Turkey has the second largest standing armed force in NATO, after the US Armed Forces, with an estimated strength of 495,000 deployable forces, according to a 2011 NATO estimate.[152] Turkey is one of five NATO member states which are part of the nuclear sharing policy of the alliance, together with Belgium, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands.[153] A total of 90 B61 nuclear bombs are hosted at the Incirlik Air Base, 40 of which are allocated for use by the Turkish Air Force in case of a nuclear conflict, but their use requires the approval of NATO.[154]"

They are in Air Force guarded vaults I guess.
