it's amazing that people think foods with fat automatically make you fat for eating them. there is much much more to nutrition than that. but the way we are brought up and not taught about nutrition, it isn't really surprising how uninformed people are.

I watched a girl in our cafeteria today prepare some hard boiled eggs she had brought in from home for lunch. She cut up 6 eggs, threw away the yolks and together with a few slices of bread, that was her lunch. She said she is on a diet and just wants the protein.

I don't know if some people's bodies are different in fat intake or not but I would have mashed up all those eggs together with a fork, yolks and all. Mix with some salt and pepper, little bit of oil and some lemon juice of vinegar to make an egg salad type of thing. Eat the equivalent of 4 eggs for lunch and save the remaining for little later. With no bread.

25 pounds in one month is absurd and unhealthy. Were you taking monsterous dumps???

Jesus fucking christ... people can't do anything without being called unhealthy anymore. He's unhealthy when he's fat, then he's unhealthy when LOSES the fat? Fuck you right in your judgemental asshole

Good job OP, I need to follow in your footsteps

Too bad. That "few slices of bread" she ate along with those eggs ruined it.

Cook your own food is generally the best advice one can give.

I'm at around ~140-145lbs and 5'7-5'8. I run 30mins (sometimes on an incline) 4-5 days a week and work out lifting weights 4-5 times a week as well. None of this, though, is effective as maintaining a proper diet. It's best to eat smaller meals more frequently than to stuff oneself, but due to work and other obligations that can become difficult if not impossible. It takes less time to cook your own meal than it does to burn off a couple hundred calories on a treadmill or bike.

Alcohol does metabolize to sugar, but even worse is that it is processed first (as it is a "toxin") and so anything you eat while consuming or burning alcohol isn't processed and ultimately could lead to excess caloric intake for the day.

1oz of liquor still has about 50 calories (7cal per gram). Adding mixers makes it worse.

Losing weight too quickly isn't healthy. He needs to lose fat, not muscle (or bone density). That said, going from sedentary to active and eating healthy usually shows a steep drop in the first couple of months before leveling off. Its also the easiest weight to get back once you revert to your old ways.

People forget that weight loss is all about diet. You have to run 23 miles to lose a pound. People who refuse to change their diet and dedicate time to working out will never see results. Want to lose weight? Change your diet. Want to tone up? Work out. Do not work out to lose weight (although you should be active.)

Congrats.

Yes, and no.

I have seen people lose huge amounts of weight by just working out. Typically they had lifestyle so sedentary that even a reasonable diet was still too many calories. I was one of these people.

I lost 25 pounds simply by adding a workout 2-3 days a week. When I changed my diet to cut out soda, donuts, etc I lost 15 more pounds. When my work got me so busy I stopped working out I gained back most of it even with my reasonable diet. I sit in a chair 12-15 hours a day, 6 days a week. When I'm not in that chair, I'm eating a meal, going to bed, or sitting at another computer doing side work.

I think if I would motivate myself to get up 30 minutes earlier than I do, I could get back in shape again simply by working out. I only eat about 1800-2200 calories a day.

I've been working on a slower diet, but it's been going really well. I've lost about 3-4 inches off my waist so far, and chances are it'll go even further. I'm trying to incorporate some different exercise routines that work out other areas to hopefully spread the fat burning to other parts of my body. So, we'll have to see how that goes.

Here are a couple of the things I've been trying to do with this "diet":

  • I don't own a scale, and consequently, I do not weigh myself. I've found way too often that people (including myself) focus way too much on weight, which can fluctuate quite a bit. To avoid this psychological trap, I use the long-term visual signs. You notice that I mentioned my waist size above, and that's one of the things that I use: clothing size.
  • I don't try and be severe about limiting what types of food that I can eat. In the past, I've tried to push myself to eat a very limited array of foods, and it became rather boring. My main goal is to watch the amount of calories that I eat. I think I've become pretty decent at estimating caloric content in food!
  • I said that I don't limit my food, but I do limit my drinks. I try and avoid drinking calories. When I was younger, I used to drink a ton of soda. I'm talking 3+ glasses per meal during my college days. A single can of soda has around 120-150 calories, and imagine that I drank close to 2.5-3 cans per meal! I still drink soda, but it's all diet. I realize that it would be healthier to drink water, but to be honest, I get bored drinking just water. If I'm working out, I prefer water.
  • I try and get a bit of exercise in each day. Since I don't eat much, I don't need a ton of exercise each day. One thing I've been trying to do is avoid using a gym. I find that I get too bored when I sit on a stationary machine and just work out. I like being outside. I've been tempted to buy a good bike as I used to enjoy riding quite a bit when I was younger.
The nice part about all of this is that I've had much, much more success on this "diet" than I've ever had in the past. I don't think I've ever kept on a diet this long in the past, and I've seen much better results. Looking at my driver's license, which was taken about 2 years ago is a shocker (! ).

Ive done a similar thing. I cut out almost all carbs and eat more lean protein like egg whites and fish. Where i used to eat food on a bed of rice or pasta i now use lettuce. I went from 160 to 140 in a couple months and 32 to 30 in waist size.

Good idea. I find that lettuce doesn't really fill me up. I like to dice up a zucchini, squash or similar plant and steam it. Its a healthy veggie low in carbs which has substance behind it, for me a good replacement for rice etc...

Glad you got results, but I like my diet better. Its called the post cholesystectomy diet. Basically if I eat anything that is "bad" for me (you know, grilled meat, potatoes, vegetables, etc.), I am rewarded with 8-16 hours of horrific diarrhea. Its a blast. Works though. Lost 12 pounds since my surgery two weeks ago. The "afraid to eat" thing is a bit hard to deal with at first, but I've gotten used to it.

Low carb works great to lose weight fast. I'm a fan when I need to do some gut maintenance.

I don't know how people eat salads. Even eating large salads, I get very hungry 2-3 hours after eating them. I have a very active job and pretty much every salad, even with chicken, eggs, other stuff on it, the lettuce wasn't filling at all.

Lose your gallbladder, increase the carbs. You're doing it wrong. Limit meat to no more than 6oz and limit your fat intake to healthy fats ( fish that make up your protein, etc). Eat as much veggies and whole grains as you desire to satiate our appetite.

Done that. Been eating very "light" and still having issues. BY "light" I mean a BRATY diet, i.e., bananas, rice, apples, tea, yogurt, with a little bit of lean meat thrown in (chicken, turkey, etc.). Started fiber supplements yesterday.

All in all I think my liver is still adjusting to the fact that I have no GB anymore. Hopefully it gets better. If not, I'll be off the to the doc for some bile binding agents.

I sometimes make a salad for lunch. I'm just like you where a salad does not sustain me in anyway and I'm hungry again 1-2 hours later. You have to remember that this is the point of diets like this. Eating smaller numerous meals instead of larger infrequent ones. When you hungry eat a small healthy snack.

I also avoid iceberg lettuce since it has minimal nutritional value and substitute a leafy lettuce like romaine, arugola, red leaf lettuce or even spinach which will sustain you for longer.
