Trump would take foreign help in election and not tell FBI: "They have information. I think I'd take it"

I'm not convinced Trump wants a second term.

He seems to view trade balance as his legacy, and he doesn't appear to care anymore how it affects his popularity. Trump wants to be seen as the "guy who brought fairness to US trade deals with the rest of the world". Whether you agree with him or not about whether international trade had been fair to the US over the past decades is certainly up to the individual.

If that's how he wants to be known that's bad news for him because he's failed at it. He's gotten several minor concessions from our closest allies in exchange for demolishing our credibility for a generation. It's been a total disaster.

Lol! You think trump cares about trade deals? Its simply another tool to move markets and get rich. The guy doesn't give one shit about America and is only looking out for number one. What you are suggesting ignores trump's 70+ years of history.

He has to get re-elected for the statute of limitations to run out on a current charge he'd be facing if he wasn't President.

Trump believes that trade is a zero sum game and that the only metric that matters is comparing money in and money out. That's it. It's all that Trump understands (money), and it's actually something he really doesn't understand at all (lifelong history of abject failure in every single business he has tried to start).

The value gained in trade agreements between nations, often far far greater than anything of a real monetary value, is vastly more complex than anything Trump could possibly comprehend, let alone the poorly educated that seem to fundamentally believe that Trump is a smart human that is, for some reason, acting on their behalf.

Trump doubling down on his position today with:

“I meet and talk to ‘foreign governments’ every day,” Trump tweeted, before ticking off a list of foreign dignitaries he met with on a recent trip to Europe. “I just met with the Queen of England (U.K.), the Prince of Whales, the P.M. of the United Kingdom, the P.M. of Ireland, the President of France and the President of Poland. We talked about ‘Everything!’”

In his tweet, the president misspelled Wales. He corrected it in a later post.

“Should I immediately call the FBI about these calls and meetings? How ridiculous!” he continued. “I would never be trusted again.”
How cute. He thinks people trust him and doesn't want to do anything to damage that trust.

A second term is the only way to keep SDNY out of his ass. I'm on the fence if Pence will pardon because he know it will end his future.

Even if Pence pardons, New York state is waiting. Their new AG is chomping at the bit.

Pence knows his political future is over no matter what. His trailer is hitched to Trump's bumper now. If Trump wins, there will be no need of a pardon, if he doesn't there is no future for Pence in politics anyway, and the pardon might buy him the goodwill of the GOP as a team player.

The walk back and excuses for this idiotic treasonous commentary of his over the next few days will be comedy gold, although I'm not sure how SNL and the late night talk shows are going to handle this considering Trump just admitted that he would commit serious crimes against the people in order to get reelected.

edit - I want to know what McConnell, Cruz, Nunez, Gowdy and what's his face Graham have to say about this
Graham momentarily became sane and said it was wrong. Not sure if he even wagged a finger.

"The Prince of Whales" - it's one of those times that I would have hoped that someone typing that would think, "hold on a second, I wonder if that's correct...".

The idea of Trump thinking is just a s cute as the idea of someone trusting him.

As I’ve pointed out before it is unlikely that the framers of the constitution sought to provide the president with the ability to commit unlimited crimes, including murdering congress if they tried to impeach him. By your theory he is 100% legal for the president to have everyone who could impeach him killed because to arrest and indict him for it would be unconstitutional.

You cannot escape this fact, which shows the absurdity of your position. If you are willing to admit there are exceptions where the president can in fact be arrested and indicted then surely committing crimes to attain the office to begin with would be among them.

This was something I wish I could see Mueller asked in open testimony.

He says he didn't consider charges bc of some DOJ policy memo. Let's test that logic.

Where exactly is the line in his opinion?

Then maybe its about time Democrats say "fuck those motherfuckers". Mayor Pete is in favor of adding 4 justices to SCOTUS. Dems take over the Senate and White House, go for it.

This is why he's got my vote.

If Warren or Biden wants to win it they better jump on that train.

I think Biden is too much of an institutionalist to do it however.

IDK on Warren.

I think the chances of Democrats taking the Senate in 2020 are below zero right now.

Nate Silver says he would peg them as slight favorites to take the senate in 2020 if they win the presidential election.

The Constitution says no such thing and he is really immune if Congress doesn't remove him. Of course you can prove me wrong and quote the Constitution on the matter, the part that claims that Presidents are immune from shooting people on a daily basis. Assassination? I'm not finding that as a legal option either.

He's a god by your standard in terms of invulnerability. When you disagree you can of course cite the SCOTUS where you principle was put to the test on serious crimes. Parking tickets? I don't think that would float. Sedition, money laundering, obstruction of a criminal investigation in which he is a party? Show me the proof, not the memo. Even Barr doesn't buy it.

Straw man the fuck out of it, huh? That's all this "What if he started shooting people?" routine is all about.

It's obviously very early but the map I looked at looks pretty brutal for Democrats. I can see maybe getting ME but a lot of the states with seats up for grabs are what I consider solid red territory. If we had a candidate as electrifying as Obama was then I could see it, but absent that...I wouldn't count on it.

I agree the map looks bad but I do trust him to know what he’s talking about.

Trump has pissed off a lot of countries. If any foreign countries were to interfere in the elections they would help Trump's. opponents.
