As someone who works in healthcare...our Administration has met about what's coming down the pike with the change in Presidency. And it's not good. Basically all projects are getting shut down, all capital requests are getting denied and all positions are put on hiring freeze. As they dismantle Obamacare and other subsidized insurance coverages those 20-40 million people that were covered are no longer. Visits will be down as a whole reducing income and services. And more people will start showing up at the ED for non-emergent needs that can't be turned away and the hospital will never be able to collect for that since there is no longer any payer to bill. We're basically going into fiscal lockdown and waiting for the chaos to begin.
my boyfriend worked for one of the Obamacare coops... I'd been pushing him to get out as soon as he could, and I'm pretty thankful that he found a job outside of the healthcare field before the election.

working for a hospital with a large medical research division, I feel like I'm in a holding pattern. most of my job is supporting the research labs, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that government grants for research don't get hit too hard in whatever budget gets passed in the next Congress.

I'm eighteen months from being eligible for Medicare and have worked since roughly age 13 and paid payroll taxes all along. I'm somewhat resigned to losing health insurance with the repeal of Obamacare but the probable gutting of medicare really inflames me. "Privatizing" medicare means increased expense (to support private profit and a bloated duplicitive bureaucracy, one public one private ) and less dollars for actual medical costs.

Privatizing medicare is a pet project of Ryan and Price. This is not a trial balloon.

I have yet to see how any of this bears the slightest relation to the stated goal of making America great again-seems to me like the middle class is going to be hollowed out and dumped at an accelerating rate.

Yup. My mom has been on Medicare for about 2 years now. She had been deferring Social Security and I just suggested that she might want to reconsider that. My dad has individual coverage through Obamacare. He will probably lose his coverage. He's been a contractor for almost 40 years, so I sure hope a bunch of respiratory problems don't pop up from all the plaster dust and fiberglass insulation he's been breathing.

I try to remember that, as much as it sucks that I will likely be driven into significant debt in paying for their medical costs, as least we won't be driven apart like the millions of undocumented workers that now face deportation sweeps and the minorities that are dealing with a spike in hate crimes.

Never forget all the New York Times stories about email servers.

You had me at years of experience. Lost me at government employees making bank under her and her marriage to McConnell making for a "robust Trump administration".
and i thought it was because you're a racist and misogynist. I forgot that only Trump supporters get those lovely titles applied to them.

GOP is playing with dynamite by privatizing Medicare. Seniors don't want their stupid vouchers, they want health coverage taken care of. It's going to blow up their party. Then Democrats will implement what we see fit, which is Medicare for all.

that reminds me of just a couple of months ago when my family all got together for the weekend of my grandma's 100th birthday. golf was on TV and during conversation i called Tiger Woods a scumbag and my father's response was to call me a racist.

do you really think that was appropriate?

Tiger Woods has been out of golf for over a year. What tournament were you watching?

So let me get this straight:
A person who hates public education is proposed to be in charge of public education.
A person who hates public health programs is proposed to be in charge of public health programs.
After running against and lambasting an opponent who allegedly maybe leaked classified information as Secretary of State a potential candidate for Secretary of State is a person who did leak classified information.

No, it wasn't appropriate. There are many reasons why you would consider Tiger a scumbag. There are also many reasons that someone doesn't approve or like President Obama. There are also many reasons that someone is a Trump supporter. However if you don't like President Obama or you support President-elect Trump you often get slapped with the racist and/or misogynist meme. It's not appropriate, but i'm pretty used to it here on these forums.

Its funny how trump said Hillary wasn't qualified because of how she handled classified information only to possibly appoint someone who has been charged with mishandling of classified info.

The guy is as self aware as his supporters, that is, not at all.

Oh they're mostly all aware, they just don't care because the criticisms were dishonest in the first place.

Got it, you're a troll. Your entire posting history here makes sense now.

Liars aren't really trolls per se, and in all fairness the dishonesty should've been obvious much sooner. People who consume lies bear some burden, too.
