I hear that the incoming administration will institute a 5 year lobbying ban, but how are they going to enforce such a ban without a legislation?

I would be soo amazed if he picked Romney. Sh.t bro, he was practically the head of the Republican Stop Trump movement. So far, though, he would be a sane pick and he's a very competent person.

Likewise, but in addition to what you cited, he's Mormon. As a group, they want fuck all to do with Trump.

Nice to see a religious group act like their morals aren't for sale. Pity the evangelicals and some others couldn't do the same.

Most big tech companies now have offices around the world. If they can't hire foreigners in the US, they'll just hire them in their home countries.

Let them put their headquarters in those foreign countries while they are at it and stop pretending to be American companies.

You can't go around telling Americans to invest tens of thousands in STEM education and then undercut them by hiring foreigners on visas.

Critics say there is no across-the-board shortage of American tech workers, and that if there were, wages would be rising rapidly. Instead, wage gains for software developers have been modest, while wages have fallen for programmers.

The liberal Economic Policy Institute reported last year that only half of U.S. college graduates in science, engineering and technology found jobs in those fields and that at least one third of IT jobs were going to foreign guest workers.

The top users of H-1B visas aren't even tech companies like Google and Facebook. Eight of the 10 biggest H1-B users last year were outsourcing firms that hire out thousands of mostly lower- and mid-level tech workers to corporate clients, according to an analysis of federal data by Ron Hira, an associate professor of public policy at Rochester Institute of Technology. The top 10 firms accounted for about a third of the H-1Bs allotted last year.

The debate over whether foreign workers are taking jobs isn't new, but for years it centered on low-wage sectors like agriculture and construction. The high-skilled visas have thrust a new sector of American workers into the fray: the middle class.

Great, so you want them to fire everyone and move HQ outside the country too? How is that going to help anyone?
At least now, you have a chance to get a job in America and they have to come here on a visa. If HQ moves, you will be the one who has to move to Bangalore or Shenzhen on a visa and work for peanuts.
Anyways, if you are in tech and can't find a decent job in this market, I don't know what to tell you. Maybe move to another area where it's not just a handful of options for you.

the klan was cool with him, until he found out they smoked pot. So, pot was the deciding factor to change his views on the klan. Stellar fucking choice for AG. STELLAR.

So far, no choices with the last names of Clinton, Warren, Ellison, Obama or Sanders. It's no wonder that the left is so upset about Trump's choices. Any one of those five I mentioned would most certainly fall within the category of draining the swamp. /s

Trump selects DeVos as Education secretary

President-elect Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that he plans to nominate school-choice activist, philanthropist and Republican mega-donor Betsy DeVos to lead the Education Department.

DeVos, 58, chairs the American Federation for Children, an advocacy group that has aggressively pushed to expand charter schools and school voucher programs that provide families with public money to spend on private school tuition.

funny how it's totally no big deal with Trump awards donors with Cabinet positions.

WTF
President-elect Donald Trump tapped Betsy DeVos, a top Republican donor and school choice activist, to head the Department of Education, the Trump transition team announced Wednesday.

Trump met with the billionaire donor and conservative activist this weekend at his golf club in New Jersey, where he hosted a slew of potential Cabinet appointees.

better than palin or doc carson, but by how much? Yay, another billionaire donor. That swamp is practically draining itself!

It's absolutely shameful. People don't seem to understand that voucher programs are code for segregated schools.

Honestly everyone of his nominations so far appears to be a disaster. It's sad though because its really poor rural states that will suffer.

don't count Ben Carson out yet, rumors keep swirling that Trump wants him as the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development... something about Dr. Carson just screams "urban" to Trump.

some things I've since learned about the new Secretary of Education:

  • major, major GOP donor... had this to say back in the late 90's:
    • "[M]y family is the largest single contributor of soft money to the national Republican party…. I have decided, however, to stop taking offense at the suggestion that we are buying influence. Now, I simply concede the point."
  • strong advocate of charter schools (her husband lead the effort to rebrand public schools as "government schools")
  • pro-Common Core, which Trump claims to be against
  • her efforts in Detroit were chronicles in this article that's worth a read -- A Sea of Charter Schools in Detroit Leaves Students Adrift
