Not to go dipshit Q on this, but thinking back on John and Robert Kennedy's assassinations and the unsolved mysteries that followed each tragedy, I'd say there's going to be a somewhat similar situation with Trump's.

I'm still calculating the distance from the time the first shot was fired to the time Trump's ear got customized although it seems it was closer than I thought the SS security screen would allow.

Btw I suspect Iron was thinking of Jefferson, rather than Franklin. Jefferson was the one who wrote the "Tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants" wasn't he? A divisive demogogue aiming to complete the destruction of American democracy, like Trump, is precisely the kind of person the Founders saw as a threat. I don't think extra judicial execution would be on the agenda; they'd have reminded us it wouldn't have gotten to this point if we'd just followed the Constitution wrt insurrectionists running for office.

THE bishops’ document opens with words from St Augustine, quoted by St Thomas Aquinas in his Summa Theologiae. “The passion for inflicting harm, the cruel thirst for vengeance, an unpacific and relentless spirit, the fever of revolt, the lust for power, and such like things, all these are rightly condemned in war . . . True religion looks upon as peaceful those wars that are waged not for motives of aggrandisement or cruelty, but with the object of securing peace, of punishing evil doers, and of uplifting the good.”
Aquinas laid down three conditions for a “just war” which have been developed today into four, recognised by most churches: it must have a just cause, the proper authority, right intent and be a last resort.


Do we face an imminent threat? Hard for me to justify because I really can't believe Trump has any chance of winning.

I don't see how this can be handwaved away. This is bad for the country. Someone taking shots at a presidential candidate is as ugly as it gets. Especially if Trump was really shot in the ear and has hearing or brain damage. As far as the election goes - this heroizes Trump and probably a worth about ten points in the polls. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Trump try to say Biden and the deep state ordered the shot. Or Trump won't accuse Biden by name and go for a generic “they tried to kill me” and leave it to his supporters to figure out who “they” are.

Secret Service has some splainin to do. Also questions if the campaign’s security arrangements are appropriate. Last time around cities had trouble getting them to pay for police services.

Why would getting shot in the ear give him further brain damage?

The irony of that quote is that when viewed in context of the letter he was sending, what he was saying was that sometimes those who call themselves patriots, must be killed, and the error of their ways must be explained to them. He wasn’t advocating for the killing of “tyrannical elected officials” but that dead faux patriots was bound to happen in defense of democracy.
