You're probably right about that... my theoretical virus spreading lunatic would more likely be a disgruntled Bernie Sanders supporter. You should have seen how bitter and rage filled their Dank Meme Facebook group got after he lost the nomination. They're ready to watch the world burn now.
 
Can't wait to see the number of lawsuits by families who end up losing a family member due to Covid-19 after attending the rally. You would think that Trump has been advised that his waiver won't protect him from lawsuits. It would be a shame if a bunch of people die just to stoke Trump's ego. That said, I don't really care how many of his supporters die. You go Mr. President.

I'd add that the biggest difference is, for the most part whites have and still do control the power. All races have racists, that will never change. When the racism impacts the ability for a race to succeed (job, vote, freedom, etc...) society needs to end that impact.

In the US that is going to take generations more. The civil rights movement that started in the 50 made a lot of process but then we went on cruise control. I don't think we have reach critical mass on acknowledging we still have plenty of work but seems like we are getting there.

Not only did it go on cruise control Republicans acted to chip away at it bit by bit. Look at how the Shelby case took an axe to the 65 Voting Rights Act.

She is not exactly wrong. Generational wealth is a powerful force in the US. Our laws are designed to propagate generational wealth. An Individual might be able to overcome the disadvantage of generations of being held back while others were allowed to accumulate wealth, but on average they are going to be at an extreme disadvantage. Even small things like your parents having been able to pay off a house to pass to you is a pretty big hand up, and that is something that few blacks have yet to get in their families.

Yeah - and as soon as those slaves were emancipated, they had all the same opportunities as every other American - regardless of race/color. I'm sure the next several generations had all the same access and chances. No discrimination. No possession. Just red-blooded Americans living the dream.

Absolutely. I was more taking about the white populous that believed in advancing the civil rights agenda. After all the prominent leaders form that area were killed off they went into, I guess that problem is fixed mode. Plus, the generations that followed like my generation. My own views have changed over the years from its an issue but not a serious one to holly crap why wasn't I paying closer attention.

Some of the people who maintained Jim Crow only died relatively recently. There are people still alive who were involved in redlining neighborhoods (Trump is one of them). The Confederate statues people are tearing down? In some cases they're just decades old. And of course, there are cops and officials right now who engage in systemic racism.

You see what I mean? The greatest lie Americans have been told is that emancipation (or the Civil Rights Act, for that matter) levelled the playing field. The truth is that there's an unbroken chain of systemic discrimination from 400 years ago to today. Black Americans may be more free and equal than they were before 1865, but the odds remain stacked against them. Imagine you're a black person who still has to worry if you'll survive a routine traffic stop, and then some white guy has the gall to tell you that egregious systemic racism is in the past.

possibly--also remember that it was revealed that a vast array of those "Bernie Bros" from 2016--the angry, "Never Hillary, might as well support Trump" types--were actually posting from the same troll farm in St Petersberg that was responsible for the very same insane pro Trump, anti-Hillary facebook messaging. ...Yes, that is an absolute fact.

So, I agree there are going to be crazies within all of these groups, but it's important to remember that what we absolutely know to be true is that the craziest of all of that meme messaging comes from the very same troll group, and it was part of a very organized messaging plan. It shouldn't be shocking, either, as the Russian Trump trolls and Bernie trolls pretty much used the exact same arguments, same syntax, same everything. Their "grievances" were always the same.

And yes, those pretty much represent all of what we think about "Bernie Bros" when we hear that term.
