Oh great.... Now everyone will start using that excuse to the IRS.
And the kids?
BILLY, WHERE IS YOUR HOMEWORK?
WELL TEACH.... YOU SEE, WE HAD THIS POOL PROBLEM AND THE WATER JUST WENT EVERYWHERE. MY HOMEWORK WAS THE FIRST TO GO.
BILLY, ARE YOU TELLING ME THE TRUTH?
WELL TEACH... IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME THEN INDICT ME.

I think most likely this week but absent that probably next week.

Trying not to be too much of a dick here but I remember lots of people here saying he would never be charged with anything. This isn’t even the end, there are more charges to come.
Not to be too much of a dick, but he still hasn't been charged with anything.
Any day now. For the last 3 years...

A tremendous ego carries a tremendous unconscious death wish as with a massive sized star. Not much is visible on the surface until the core collapses. It takes time for a massively heavy knife to penetrate a massively armored back but when it does the results are spectacular.

All this was portrayed by analogy years ago in the film Forbidden Planet, where the Krell created both impenetrable armor and unlimited power and were destroyed therewith by the Monster of the Id.

But then who pays attention to science fiction. The Day the Earth Stood Still told us we are insane but who wants to listen to that. Everything we need to know is hidden right there in plain sight.

Ozymandias

By Percy Bysshe Shelley

I met a traveller from an antique land,
Who said—“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal, these words appear:
My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;
Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.”

Wow, that wooshing sound I just heard was the goalposts flying by me.
His punishment so far in his lifetime has been financial, jail time for a former president has never happened yet. It will be interesting to see what type of punishment he actually gets.

This is the best argument he can make at this point - why am I being charged when everyone else did it too? I'm already bracing for every Trump supporter to keep parroting this claim and not applying any critical thinking to the situation. Taking classified docs and refusing to return them != taking them and acknowledging the mistake and working to return them promptly.

"Well you know everyone takes money from the bank, why are you arresting me just because I used a gun instead of a withdrawal slip?"

I’m with ya. Sure he’s been charged. When will the trial happen and ultimately assuming he is guilty what will be the consequence?
I suspect close to zero.

IF he's charged...and I'm still not convinced that it will happen, there won't be any consequences. No jail time, he won't be prevented from holding office...his supporters most likely won't have to pay any serious fine.

If he is charged and found guilty he will be barred from public office. However this is the same guy who advocated 20 years for the partial release of a secret document while he was in office. That person did receive jail time (I forget the details) for a relatively minor crime. What trump did was far far worse. Furthermore not only did he keep top secret (and higher) documents he had no issue with keeping them out in the open where others, including foreign nationals could view them.

Here we go. He's going off the rails. Marxists AND Fascists after him this time.
At least they have diverse political views!

And the next line, "at a speed never before seen in our Country", I think there might be a handful of cases that were slower to initial charges being filed after the crime and "alleged" perpetrator are indisputably identified ~ in many states, everything except for felony charges would already be dismissed as past the statute of limitations for failure to file charges.

Okay sure breaking news but really duh, no shit Sherlock, Meadows has been confirmed to have testified to the grand jury.

Also didn’t realize the Mar A Lago staff actually testified to a separate Florida grand jury, not the same DC one.

The venue for charging needs to be where a crime was committed. There are other participants besides Trump that may have done things in Florida. My understanding is that the bulk of the charges against Trump are claimed to have started in DC, so that is where that part of the trial has to occur.
Oh, Ari Melber is interviewing Sam Nunberg, at the moment.

Yes, from my understanding Trump is likely to be charged in DC and his staff charged in Florida.
