I think the point that The Donald is making is that no matter what he says, crazy conservatives will flock to him because he is the mean guy and he will beat up all comers, especially them Messicans. Quite a few conservatives are looking for a bastard to take over the Presidency and fuck up everyone who has pissed them off. The Donald is playing the bastard for them this time.

Conservatives are angry and The Donald is feeding that anger.

this.

Considering the way Republicans have gone after other soldiers in the past, this probably won't do much to the trump. Remember, the right went after Tammy Duckworth of all people. A fucking war criminal who should have been handed over to the Iraqis had the fucking gall to question her loyalties.

The only noteworthy thing on this is that McCain is kinda on their side, he was a POW.

I am a conservative and your blanket statement is very much incorrect. Trump is a retard looking for attention. He no more wants to be president than I do.

John Kerry.

Max Cleland.

They only give a shit when it's someone on their side.

Smashing a distinguished Democrat in the face is par for the course.

Trump IS the Republican party base.

Someone once said that Trump is the Cliff's Notes version of a Republican.

I couldn't disagree with that statement at all.

#Trump 2016 Baby.

That is the furthest thing from the truth. I am a conservative and usually vote for the republican candidate. Most of the people I know are republicans and all of them think he is an idiot.

Trump is the base.

The smart Republicans who play to the base juuuussst long enough to get elected aren't of the base. They are the Republican grifter subtype. Think Boehner, McConnell, Kasich, Walker, Christie.

The non-crazies.

Trump is a caricature of the base, though. The people y'all depend on to get your midterm victories cemented into place.

As I've seen elsewhere and described here elsewhere, Trump is the Cliff's Notes version of a modern Republican. Heavy on bluster and outrage, short on substance (to anyone not dominated by their amygdala.)

Sometimes I feel like all Donald Trump does is search the highest voted comments on conservative Facebook pages and then repeat them.

I don't think Trump is the base. He's getting crazy people and jokers polling for him. My grand parents are staunch republicans from the deep south and even they think he's a moron.

So then it's safe to assume that Trump's lead in polling among the Repubs in the running are attributed to mostly those that are crazy or jokers?

I'm only commenting in this fashion because I see a disparity between the obviously logical reasoning being put forth by the conservatives in this thread that Trump......well, to put it kindly, shouldn't even be in the top 10 of those Repubs in the running, yet there he is, right at the very top.

In your opinion, can you explain why his high poll numbers do not reflect the alluded to opinion that the majority of conservatives think he can only win a seat at the local Funny Farm?

It's no blanket statement, it's a fact. Go over to Redstate and read the responses from fellow conservatives to Erick Erickson's latest post calling for Trump to apologize to McCain. The animals there ain't having it, they want blood and The Donald is their man. Redstate thinks Trump is an ass but the locals just love him to no end.

The Donald is reaping what conservative leaders have sown, and his crop is bitter, hateful and very angry right now.

So you base this observation on One Conservative Blog Site. OK then.

You were correct when you said he is attracting the crazies however. You would have to be crazy to vote for the Donald.

Got to agree with Moonie on this-it's pretty much universal that every GOP Pres candidate or major GOP figure is attacking Trump in the strongest language possible. Why were these people silent when he maligned the entire Mexican nation? For that matter, where were these patriots/staunch veteran defenders when such false attacks where made against Kerry in 2004?

I admire Trump for totally displaying the false values and hypocrisy of the GOP in general, as well as those characteristics of himself in particular. I still hope he becomes their nominee but I never had much hope that would actually happen.

If McCain has been trumpeting himself as being a war hero, then though I cringe, I don't have a problem with Trump calling him out - there was no heroic act, except perhaps for signing up in the first place. We had a former student from my school - grenade was thrown, he threw his helmet over the grenade and dove on top of his helmet, shielding his fellow soldiers from the blast. He died as a result. THAT is a hero. If simply being in the service automatically makes you a hero, then that waters down the meaning of hero.

This is the way I look at it as well. There are many who served in Vietnam that performed courageous acts and are not revered as war heroes like McCain. Yes, he served the country honorably, persevered in a prison camp for 5 + years, and should be respected for his service. But the real question is he truly a war hero?

1. Why were these people silent when he maligned the entire Mexican nation?

2. For that matter, where were these patriots/staunch veteran defenders when such false attacks where made against Kerry in 2004?

3. I still hope he becomes their nominee but I never had much hope that would actually happen.

1. I heard plenty talking about his stupid statement, however he didn't malign the entire Mexican Nation, just most of it.

2. Because the attacks weren't attacks they were facts.

3. Not a chance in hell that is going to happen. None. But you can dream.

They have good reason to be angry, with themselves & their leadership. They can't see that, of course, so they have to blow off a lot of steam to vent the pressure of cognitive dissonance they've built up by Believing in lies. Trump facilitates that.
